the previous sandy bridge laptop from Lenovo used to have issues with WIFI & freezed shutdown problem if u install win7 in EFI mode/GPT partition. Hope this problem will not happen again. Hope Lenovo engineers solve this problems.

I used to do upgrade from XP to Vista, Vista to 7...

and every single time I do that, it's really really really dirty... a lot of incompatible software that it's easier to clean it up by formatting rather than fixing one by one... and as far as I can remember, win7 to win8 upgrade is the dirtiest of all... laugh.gif

Can I bring my laptop together with newly bought ssd and caddy to the lenovo service centre and ask them help transfer my current windows 8 from the hdd to sdd ? then my hdd will replace odd place, ssd insert into hdd place. hdd will act like storage drive after that. I really dont have idea on how to do it on my own.

Can try this method i did last time, just in the end no need to install another Win7 and the good thing about this is that the Win7 doesn't need to be original or activated, only a stepping stone for the Win8 to detect the SSD... But if you're not good with PC format stuff then maybe going to the Lenovo Center is better option... cool.gif

Was testing something and i accidentally clean my whole SSD cry.gif  so i decided to experiment something which end up that it works. icon_idea.gif  Now on my SSD i have dual boot OS of Win7 and Win8... rclxm9.gif
1. You will need to do a recovery media of your Win8 which you will need a 16GB pendrive or ext. HDD, by following this: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/...?DocID=HT076024
2. On your SSD, format and split the partition accordingly if you need 2 type of OS on it. If not then just leave it as it is...
3. Install Win7 on the partition which you wish to recover your Win8 into, so this step is just to create a dummy so that the recovery media will enable you to do recovery onto that partition.
4. Finish the Win7 installation until you can get into the desktop wallpaper screen, plug in your recovery media pendrive/ext. HDD and then restart without any need for driver or software installation.
5. Press F12 so that you can choose the bootup media to your USB recovery media.
6. From here onward again you can follow the instructions from the link above and then wait for the recovery to be done...
7. After finish, you will see the Win8 like a freshly installed ones but all the drivers will still be intact so no need to do driver installations, unless for the graphic drivers that you want to update to the newest.
8. And for me, i plug in the Win7 installation pendrive again and then reboot to install the Win7 on my other partition. So on every startup i will get to choose Win7 or Win8 for the bootup. icon_rolleyes.gif
That's all folks~! thumbup.gif

My one comes with Synaptics. So far no problem yet. Many Y500 and Y580 users complain about their touchpad malfunctioning but so far I dont have any problem with it.
No the Original window 8 64-bits come with the picture lock function
For Y500, standard one comes with 2 years Carry-in warranty. You need to register your product's warranty at lenovo's website. You need to attach your invoice with date and company's chop in order to register for warranty. So one thing you HAVE to be careful is that you need to make sure that there's a CHOP in your invoice.

Regardless to the hardware problem, as what i see in the community forum, most users have touchpad problems (but I dont have), so if you are the lucky one, you will get the good one. Then, Lenovo Y500 comes with different specs now. Some comes with Blu-Ray optical drive, some come with DVD drive (which means they are not GT650 SLI). depending on what you want.

The GT650 SLI is not that stable yet. Need to wait for Nvidia to release the latest drivers to solve the slacking and glitch problem in certain games, most identical one would be Dota 2. The vertical sync problem still remain unsolved yet.
