Took less than a minute to put it on. Really really high-grade vinyl material, not a bad way to customize your Mac mini if you ask me. smile.gif

US$18.50 including shipping @ decalgirl.com. Cheers! smile.gif

RM3,299 is the base configuration isn't it? I've upgraded the memory to 1GB and hard disk to 100GB.

The Mac mini has served me well for about 3 weeks, gave it to my brother who's in need of a new computer and got myself a MacBook Pro. 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 100GB HDD.

In the process of installing updates right now... Boot Camp here I come!

user posted image

By the way, I'm not sure if it's the speed bump from the Core Duo 1.66GHz to this Core Duo 2GHz, or the RAM upgrade from 1GB to 2GB, this thing feels a lot faster than the Mac mini. iApps open in half to one full bounce. It's soooo swift!

Lol - ya dont have to be rich to have a couple of macs wink.gif Its just a matter of much power you really want your rig to have and what exactly your trying to accomplish.

Here's mine.

Powerbook 1ghz (tibook) 1-gig ram - Runs most of my audio sequencing software + M-audio Quattro (audio interface) and an external 160gb USB2.0 hdd (Tiger) My trusty performance machine smile.gif

Two G3 Graphite DV SE iMacs 500mhz - 512 mbs ram each - 30gig hdd in both. One as a surfing machine in the living room (Tiger) - the other running Ubuntu as a linux playtest machine.

G4 466 (DA) PowerPC - with no HDD sad.gif I actually have no idea what to do with this machine.

and my favorite little piece of junk...

Beige G3 266 (Overclocked to 315mhz) with 160mbs (WOOSH!), 5gb hdd and 4gb hdd running Mac OS9. This is my audio programming machine with Max MSP and Supercollider. The lovely thing about this machine is the built in RCA stereo audio and video input / outputs. I run it every now and then with Protools FREE plugged into my mixer as a Digital Audio Workstation.

All the machines I own are all networked through Appletalk - so sharing files throughout the house is really super easy too.

I got the imacs for RM250 each
The Beige G3 and G4 for free.
Ram scrounged from various computers and the HDD's dug out from old computers.

The TRICK is to visit audio / visual studios like post production houses and music production studios that need to cycle through their systems really quickly. Most of the time they can't be bothered to throw out their machines, so they keep them around. Just keep your eyes peeled until they get some new MD or something and wanna do a spring clean - then go NUTS with all the junk that they offload - ya never know what they might wanna throw out!

I'm currently eyeing a powerbook with a broken screen - I'm planning to just plug in an external keyboard and monitor and just use it as a desktop replacement for something.

But with that said, if anyone has a Classic or Color Classic they're willing to offload, I wouldn't mind pitching a few bucks for that smile.gif

Have fun digging!

Wuuuut? Thats like a TOTAL rippoff. If I see anything I'll make sure I'll slap it up here. But keep in mind though, when I got my BG3 there was like a CARPET worth of dust inside. What was the condition that they were selling it to you to?

You can get some really cheap candy-ibooks on Lelong.com.my last I checked.

LOL - mine was one of their old AsiaOnTime machines. Took me days to dust it spick and spam - Its running 9.22 now with Protools Free (one of the better DAW softwares). Very happy with it.

The MDD's a great - there are a couple of overclock guides online if you dare to go in there with a soldering iron *shudder*

What do you plan to do with it?

Oh yeah - its not really meant for like major mixdowns. But it sits next to my DJ mixer and records sets enough for podcasts and demos. A couple of more tracks for voiceovers or effects. And its free - so I can pretend to have an expensive studio (although its totally comprised of old mac junk)

Plus the box is really really nice for MaxMSP and Jitter stuffs.

The MAJOR mixdowns happen on the Powerbook in Digital Performer biggrin.gif

just in case, watch out for thermal issue then..... the mini is too small for an effective thermal dissipation.... (though this will be negligible)....

might as well wait until Merom's released, by then Yonah prices will drop further..... you're about 2 to 3 months away....

Yah, but then, I got it cheap, and RM2000 later, it pretty much does what I need it to do well. I really like the Wings AV card - it really blows all the Windows video capture solution I've used so far out of the water (I never had any good experience with Windows capture btw - it's either crash and/or poor framerate- and sound sync problem happen more often on the Windows solutions I used than on the Mac).

The EFI update is by Apple. And it fixes the SATA problem for the MacPros.

If you read the article, it states it quite clearly.

Update. New Samsung 17" in screen spanning mode.
Replaced old fried dsl modem and broken apple pro
mouse with aztech and logitech cordless respectively.

That's an old iSub to the right and a panasonic sc-pm03
behind the lcd, as audio outputs for the eMac.

The 23" Apple Cinema Display is now "only" RM3999. I bought it nearly two years ago for quite a little bit more. Apple displays have been coming down in price. Which is a good thing BUT not as good as it should be. The brushed aluminum bezel, The ability to use the magnetic mount for my iSight camera the soft-touch buttons, the single cable coming off the back of the display; these are plus points that make the pain of purchase more bearable.

Beside the ACD is the Dell 24' which goes for around RM2.5k (when I bought it went for RM2399) and the price fluctuates like the mood swings of a manic-depressive.

The ACD is aesthetically the better display. Although the multiple input options and better price-point of the Dell makes it better value-for-money.

After Lokgotz spent all that effort tracking down ARj's post for us the least you could do is click the link...

(thanks Lokgotz, owe you a teh-tarik AND a roti canai too!)

... in any case for those who are click-deficient; ARj got his at the furniture shop along the KL-Seremban highway. Now since that is a VERY long highway and there are MANY furniture shops along said highway; I guess inquiring minds will indeed have to repeat the question:

Where? And How Much?

guys, let it be. what done is done. hope it wont happen again. it's very shameful for a small community of mac users. Many mac lover doesnt own a mac till many years to come when they really can afford one. There's no need to "steal" one just to impressed others.

it is there in hifi forum and it is here in mac forum. some people like to impress others though the kit shown not his/hers.

anyway i think mike is a true apple fan just that he has not enough money to be at par with some lucky ones. well mike, a hobby is what makes our life more fun, not about what we better others. smile.gif

i have a friend who bought a used imac G3 and loves it truly. with upgraded ram and hdd now OSX Tiger really fly though not as fast as more recent makes. but the point is the imac really make him happy. that's what matter most. rclxms.gif

Mounted the AltecLansing satellites on the ACD with some nice double sided velcro from Ace Hardware. It blocks the controls on the right side of the display but there's no need to utilize those controls anyways and using velcro, I can remove/reattach the speakers at will.

Certainly makes for a neater desk IMHO...

Well those who just bought the Core Duo Blackbook for RM5,799 less than a month would probably feel the pain knowing its just RM4,799 now.

I know I do, for my white Core Duo Macbook even though I bought it in Sept!

Quite unlikely to be his "girlfriend's" setup lah... The giveaway is always the American power-plug. This is another lame wannabe. The hilarious thing is the fact that the finger pointing is done by Mike...

Alanis' "Isn't It Ironic" does come to mind...

I disagree that Rules and Regulations are necessary. Rules and Regs never were a substitute for honesty, and never will be. Integrity however is apparently hard to come by and the LACK OF integrity apparently is not something to be ashamed of.

If I was caught faking on this forum I'd at least have the decency to fade quietly away (or take the trouble to hide behind another nick...). Here however, the fakers just keep on posting away without a care in the world... Sad, but true.

Who stole who's pic? D'ya know my gf in the 1st first place, if you didnt then F*** ur mouth up? Did I tell you that pic taken in Malaysia, nope wasn't? Based on what you guys presumed the pic was stolen. I didn't claim thats mine. I said thats my gf. Just b'coz one narrow-minded pointed out that pic was from Flickers everybody start stereotyping, so pathetic but true thats Malaysian style. Who's faking? I didn't. Hello guys pls next time check before flame ppl . For your info, she is American. I knew her from the net years ago. For those morons and small brain beings, gf means "kawan perempuan" doesn't necessarily mean special gf. What a stupid!!!. One thing - next time pls spelled out clearly that the tread is for Malaysian only.

*
first of all you need to calm the f*ck down. i didn't say YOU stole the pic and claimed it to be yours. i was saying ANYONE who does that is just sad. and quite frankly, i was talking about someone else. but the fact that you went all ballistic over something a stranger said on the internet just goes to show that you're a genius and have a reeeeal big brain.

and maybe, maybe you could ask your "not-special" american girlfriend to teach you how to spell properly.

I'm really sorry if you regard this as "flaming" BUT the only thing MORE pathetic than claiming ownership (or ownership-by-proxy as the case may be) is referring to someone that you've only met on the internet as a "girlfriend". You might want to back away from that keyboard and try meeting some REAL people. It will certainly help with your attitude to develop some people skills.

limchee,
post the description of your imac's problem in a new thread,
i'm pretty sure somebody can help

i've had the same problem looong time ago and i believe a new osx install solved mine (although not necessarily yours)

btw, limchee... your nick reminds me of "kimchee"... a korean dish.
which reminds me, i need to go for my lunch now smile.gif

Good news: one of your drive failed, so when OS X try to boot it get crashed.
Bad news: logicboard failure, which cost a bomb to replace.

Have you try to boot from the OS DVD or CD? Put in the disc hold C when restart.
Or press Option + Command + Shift + Delete when booting. Try to do a hardware test.

Hardware test will probably tell you what went wrong.

kevler,
Though I signed the procurement form to buy the system, I don't remember if it was a Mac Pro - I don't think so lah. When did Mac Pro come out though? I do remember it was a something-dual but am pretty sure it isn't running on Intel chips [hence it's probably uh, the older version of Mac Pro? *shrugs*]

PS: I didn't have time then to learn more about Macs, so enlighten me please... Don't ask me to go check the Systems Preference lah... smile.gif

All new 2nd gen Shuffle with colors, the packaging box's wordings are all in silver? While the old 2nd gen Shuffle with only silver color case has green wordings on the case instead?

I think it is good to have an extra keyboard because:

1. Sometimes your laptop gets hot and your palm can get hot too!
2. You can't have your laptop on your lap for too long because it's hot!

Just my opinions. Don't you all agree?

PC graphic cards work with the Apple Cinema Display. With the 30" however, you'll need a dual-link DVI. If you are unsure of whether your card supports DL-DVI check the pins here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVI

I agree with Wei. Ian should get a MacPro. It certainly cured ME of my PC modding ways.... :-) There just ain't no better case and ain't no better computer either.

Very easy oni. I'm using a 8800GTX. I was thinking of going SLi in fact, just for the 30" ACD. After trying it with just a single 8800GTX it's actually powerful enuf to play all my games at max gfx options at 2560x1600 resolution. Only Oblivion n COD2 cant be played at max gfx options with single 8800GTX.

Well, I'd love to get a Mac but my main reason for spending so much on the rig is games. The Mac just cant do it for games. So, the best I can do to satisfy my desire for Apple products is to buy the biggest baddest ACD. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Quite right Ian. The Mac absolutely sucks when it comes to games.

Unfortunately there's been a drought of good games for the PC in recent months. BF2142, Company of Heroes, Oblivion etc. while good have not been able to sustain my interest. I've not bothered to even reinstall em in the Rig now that I'm running Vista.

Most of my computing is now done on the MacPro. I hardly boot up the WorkRig anymore...

in fact you are wrong in 'what is mac doing running windows' and that is what i am correcting. it is not a mac, just an ACD (Apple Cinema Display) hook up to PC. biggrin.gif peace!

A little update of my "gadgets"...

Macbook - Wired Mighty Mouse - Altec Lansing ATP3 - O2 XDAIIi - Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard - iTech Blueband R - Surefire G2 Nitrolon

One question, whoever can answer, why did Apple make the Wired Mighty Mouse's cable soooooo short?????

My guess is so that the user will go back and buy the Wireless version too! nod.gif

Answer is: no matter which desktop mac you use (other than the Mini), there is a USB port nearby. On the Apple Cinema Display: it is at the back of the display as it is with the iMac. In addition to this there are USB ports on either side of the wired keyboard. So a long cable is quite unnecessary and would only get in the way.

Unless you use it with a notebook.... and as you correctly have noted, with bluetooth built into all the Apple notebooks, the wireless mighty mouse makes more sense.

Well that is IF it is for a left hander. I'm not sure about MBPs and iMacs, but Macbooks come with USB on the left, which makes the cord a little short for comfort..

heheh~ I get that a lot. but honestly, MS mouse is 1 of the best mouse I've ever owned.

I've been using it since the roller ball era, it was still working, til I really wanted a USB Laser Mouse, and I gave up on it.

Mighty Mouse got some really cool features, but the design not very frenly to use.
