Can I know what is the default CPU frequency for WRT54G?
What is the benefit if we overclock the CPU frequency?

What do you expect, if a normal AP (TPO varies), connected to external 8.5 dbi OMNI directional antenna (NOT patch/directional) will performed? The fact is the signal strength decreased once the cable (depends on the length and type of cable) and connector were introduced.
It is almost impossible to reach 1km (without power booster and directional antenna) unless it is supported by  the strength of wireless adapter - and also the correct position.
Note that, the adapter is not only listens (it is not a passive mode software/device like the netstumbler/kismet or wireless IPS-Airtight) but it is also performed transmit - duplex. Sorry for the term 'pulled' that I've said.
I would admit the performance if I see it in front of my own eyes brows.gif (Maybe Azmihamzah is the lucky guy)

One more thing, the signal strength after flashed to ddwrt is lower than before flashed. Have you all noticed about this?
Last week I flashed my wrt54gs with RC3, but the signal tested with netstumbler is not same as before, which is much lower after flashed. So sorry to say it without picture.
I've tried increase the transmit on ddwrt, but nothing much changed in term of signal strength.

ps : Sorry azmihamzah, me ckp saja buat tak. Maybe I will shoot that type of kerbau for a testing.

well, maybe i'm a lucky guy. Btw, i did some test regarding wireless performance (Tx and Rx capability) between whr-hp-g54, whr-g54s, and linksys wrt54gl. All use dd-wrt sp2 special firmware. (ACK: 0, channel 1 wireless-G only, Tx power 84) Results show that whr-g54s has both Tx and Rx signal better than wrt54gl. Meanwhile Tx signal of wrt54gl outperform the whr-hp-g54 which has so called MIMO performance. But strangely, whr-hp-g54 has the best Rx signal compared to those 2.

As confused as i can be, i do some reading in dd-wrt forum. From what i read, some ppl has come with their own idea.

1) Buffalo did something on whr-hp-g54 build-in power booster, which by default can only accept 10mW input from its radio chipset. Flashing to dd-wrt, means whatever setting (Tx power) being increased, the output Tx power leaving the build-in power booster to the antenna has been "capped". Radical increased of Tx power will either producing more noise or burned the build-in power booster.

2) One interesting comment from Brainslayer (The main dd-wrt developer). He said circuit board between whr-hp-g54 and whr-g54s has been switched in the factory production level. Means board inside whr-g54s use whr-hp-g54's board which has build-in power booster. Couriously, I simply opened both of the routers' casing, I can see radio shield on top of whr-g54s' radio chip and heatsink on top of its broadcom chip, while my whr-hp-g54 board don't have any of radio shield neither the heatsink. The question is, why does low-end router need those radio shield and heatsink? Maybe Brainslayer's theory is right.

So, which one is better and is RM50 more for whr-hp-54g worth for the money? No i dont think so. I managed to get 1km signal using whr-g54s + cheap -8dBi antenna. Who knows that my whr-g54s has the built-in power booster supposely made for whr-hp-g54, which is big mistake made by Buffalo factory. I don't mind - I already sold my whr-hp-g54 to get a new whr-g54s:p

i think is 200MHz, after flashed to DD-WRT v23 SP2 (09/15/06) mini - build 3932, it becomes 216MHz but i downclock it to 200MHz

If we overclock, actually what is the benefit? I'm using WRT54G w/ latest DDWRT firmware and 4 wireless users in my network.

v24 RC3 does not support GS v7. Only RC4 does.

The download is somewhere in the forum.

I think for that need to load v23 SP2 first via TFTP then upgrade to RC4 via web interface.

I believe the booster in the WHR-HP-G54 is for Rx only.
Read that somewhere.

okay, will try it later. smile.gif

if I wanna update to RC4, anything that I should pay attention? Shall I direct update it via the web GUI without doing other thing like reset or restore to factory setting?

A factory setting reset is a must before any firmware flash, after new firmware flashed, reset factory setting again

RC-4 is now available. Memory leaks problem from the wireless driver should have been fixed.
