i've got 3 question regarding WRT wireless router

1) Are the antennas detachable and can plug with wall-mounted external antenna. I know there are 2 ori antenna on WRT, but how do they performed? Can anyone give me the true practical length of coverage with ori antenna?

2) Is wireless bridging possible. How about DHCP re-routing setting?

3) I went trough the thread and found out there are 2 type of version available...Does version <5 is still available in the market now. How much for one unit?

thanks!

just one more quick question about wireless bridging... Does WRT compatible if let say I want to bridge my current wireless connection from Netgear router which doesnt hv wireless bridging capability by using WRT one? Or I have to use the same WRT router to do so?

u can configure to use chilispot auth system which works like any standard hotspot management system which requires user to enter username and password before can enter the networks...

btw, have u ever try tmnet hotspot? It works something similar like that system..

edit : i miss understanding one part of it. U need another machine running chillispot and connected to WRT54 for them to works...still in theory mode, haven't get my wrt54gl yet!

can ddwrt has more than 1 wireless ssid for different security level???

its a hassle.. coz my computer uses WPA-PSK while my NDS uses onli WEP protocol.. and not to mention my pda onli support WPA-TKIP
*
with new v24 alpha...u can set up to 3 different SSID with different security level

check out at their main website for details...

I'm currently using Hyperwrt, if I want to flash it to ddwrt v23, do I have to do reset or something?

Also is it worth to jump boat? I'm not in Wifi thing but more concerned abt download issue coz this router has been used by me and other user, if the other user runs BT then I will face slow down problem while surfing, even I limit the speed on the other user's BT also won't help, so I wonder it'll be any improvement in this case.
*
sure...the new QoS allow u to use BT productively...when u want to use IE, the router automatically give priority to HTTP connection while slowing the BT connection..

Thanks, will try it when I'm ready.

Woops, one more question. On the guide given, the author advised to use the micro generic version and not the one labelled WRT54G but you gave me the micro wrt54g version.

Is this alright?
*
for WRT54G v4 or WRT54GL, the flash memory is reduced to 4mb. So whenever u want to upgrade to DD-WRT generic/full version from original firmware by linksys u need to flash the mini version first, then follow by generic/full version which has bigger size.

But for WRT54G v5> u can only use mini version of DD-WRT firmwares

blush.gif anyone mind telling me the improvements of Speedbooster? I still get 54MBps max leh
*
speedbooster only increased your coverage and stablility of your wireless connection, but not the speed

BS mentioned that the cheapest yet most exellent router is Buffalo WHR G54s which capable to transmit up to 125mbps...and quoted price at $43+ (around rm160). But unluckily it is currently not available in Malaysia. Maybe someone could manage a bulks order for us all here... icon_idea.gif

P/S: still waiting for any news from Richx...sighh... whistling.gif

smile.gif RM270 for the GL is indeed expensive, more so for the RM330 GS. But then if you want to install mini/standard version of DD-WRT you have no choice lo. The WRT54G is selling for RM220 at Lowyat, but all are v5.

If you want to play with DD-WRT, better get a GL from richx at Bulk Order section.
*
he just recovered from MIA...gonna get my GLs sweeties next monday...nyway, i think still have 4 units in his hand now (considering yrh0413 has cancelled his order) and option for COD is available next monday at midvalley..

rclxms.gif at last, received 3 units of WRT54GL from Richx rclxms.gif

now currently running one of them as a main router using v24beta.
the 2 rest using v23 for WDS. One of them connected trough CAT5 cable to main router.

Problems after 2 days using dd-wrt
1. First i encountered severe T(x) package errors using v24beta, and fail to set up the WDS between the routers (test phase). Afraid of incompatibility of beta firmware i reflash 2 of them with v23 and manage to set up WDS between them. Read through the Wiki someone mentioned about lowering ACK value to 0, lowering the Xmit value, and perhaps change the antenna (hell??after 2 days?, i think maybe i should wait until v24 final come out) WDS with v23 is running fine now- at least for the time being, and i am happy with it!

2. When i reflashed the firmware from v24 to v23, one of the 2 routers had problem with GUI interface ( the interface only shows words without box or even graphic on it, like normal dd-wrt interface) First i thought it was probably due to IE cache prob-later reflash the second one the problem didn't appeared (which make my guess possible) but later when i want to reconfigure the previous one which had the problem, it showed same symptoms.
=- scared of 'brick' it, i reset the router (still same), reflash to mini version then v23(still same), later take 10 minutes rest sweat.gif reset-flash to original linksys-flash to mini-flash to v24(problem solved)-then flash back to v23 (no problem-legaa thumbup.gif )
=- but another symptom came back on the next day (today), the router appears to auto reset to default config (when ever i turn off the power) which made me near crazy-almost 5 times reconfigure it (IPs, WDS setting, MAC filters etc) - tested by turn on/off several times until the symptom gone. I think maybe i kacau the flash/reboot/savesetting process by turned it off to soon 'just' after the power led stop blinking whistling.gif doh.gif

3. Still working on chillispot for my wireless client. I got a dead end in set up radius server (don't know which one i should use) Maybe brother PRASYS can help me out thumbup.gif

4. Is there any differences between v23 and v23 SP1? I checked the upload date on dd-wrt page it seems to be a same date.

5. Bandwidth monitoring software on dd-wrt? I think i somehow read about that before but cannot remember where and how. Any thoughts here?

6. Load-balancing via round-robin on WRT54 with dd-wrt. Change the LAN port eth(3) to second WAN port. Maybe this will be my next project after chillispot n WDS projects are stable smile.gif . Anyone has try it before and care to share? Btw, what is round-robin loadbalancing? ANy difference with normal hardware load-balancing available on market now?

yeah , I have managed to set chilispot up , so have you installed the chilispot stuffs on your PC first ? or are you going to use an online chilispot host ?
*
i have already try several option
1. Sputnik Express - easiest but cannot support PPOE, and got user limit

so i try installing own radius server
2. Try Set up freeradius on Ubuntu - got stuck
3. WinRadius - cannot configure the config setting, got fed up
4. EvoLynx Radius - trial version along with Mic SQL 2000
-currently setting it up along with Mic SQL server, i got the green link between SQL n Radius server. But when try using Load Test Tool, the Radius rejected my authorization request. Double-triple check with Radius Server secret setting, SQL ports, username, password everything seem fine. What can i see, the accounting request to Radius server is find, so again i am stuck here rclxub.gif

What i have in my mind now is to try Windows IAS (win-based radius) in Windows Server 2003. Currently 'torrent'ing the files sweat.gif . Donno wut is the outcome...

Anyway, really need ur help in this matter la brother...how about this weekend tru MSN?

Edit : prasys, u have any OUM script that can run on IIS? using ASP will be great.

Any WRT54G(S) v5 users tried enabling the other half of the unused RAMs to 16MB?

do you have v5 already? I read about RAM tweaking in dd-wrt forum. Maybe later if i have a spare money-buy v5 and enable the 16mb ram and run it for my webserver tongue.gif

My load always very high , I usually do alot of P2P , housemate DOTA online.

My maximum IP is already 4096 .

If I going to leave this for long run , will it affect my router ?

Anyone have any idea how to use RFlowCollector ???

I need step by step

My router's ip is 192.168.1.2
*
your active ip connection is still 300+, compared to mine is around 400+ to 500+, my clients below me also are heavy p2p n online game user. Since i implementing QoS, the connection to hhtp is fine all the time - direct download can be as fast as 75 KB/s.

No, i dont think increasing max ip connection will affect your router, as long the CPU load doesn't at max point everytime, or else it may affect the CPU lifetime. One thing i realized about ur router is your load average which is at range of 1.3 -1.5, rather high compared to me just around 0.19 - 0.15. FYI, throughout a day i usually have 30+ pcs connected to my router. (5 APs to be exact - 3 WRT54GL:WDS, 1 belkin wifi router, and 1 Netgear wifi router)

RFlowCollector

Download the program - u dont need to even install it. Run RFlowCollector.exe.
On network parameter, enter range of ips of your network (local subnet) eg if your network range is 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.100 u can just enter 192.168 and on filter parameter just enter ip(s) of your router;the program wont count packet in/out from the router.

At router config. Administration > Services > RFlow / Macupid, enter those value. Server ip adress is the ip of computer that run RFlowCollector.exe Use port 2055. U may want to add static ip rules first for a long run. it can be done in DHCP parameter located at a same page. Just add the MAC, pc name (hostname) and desireable ip address.

Results will come out after a while, and u can monitor bandwith speed, ports used, which webpage (in ip form) it goes and comes etc. It is very simple program yet very helpful if u want to monitor what go on in your network... thumbup.gif
