i think any company dealing with petronas is also included in oil n gas. like those fabricators: ramunia, MMHE, kencana, oilfab, sime darby. main contractor: shell, exxonmobile,..... and many more

QUOTE(kockroach @ Mar 22 2008, 12:02 AM) worleyparsons would be a good place for structural engineer to learn. the workload is very heavy there, always OT. a good place to learn. for fresh...i would like to suggest go to consultant or fabricator....dont go to client such as petronas or shell....because u will not learning the basic engineering.
get experience 1st with consultant and fabricator...and u build ur base...and identify ur interest in oil n gas...
if u have experience both in fabricator and consultant...ur salary will be high....very high....after u bored with engineering design...then u can jump to client such as shell..talisman...or petronas..
just my 2cents..

I would say depend on department, some department with lot of projects every years. Total of manhours they have till require staff to OT often. To me, consultant more for knowledge purpose and for those who married and want to settle down. Have proper working hours and still get pretty decent pay

Imagine the amount of civil works required to construct those huge @ss onshore petrochemical plants. And think of the structural designs required to ensure the offshore platforms stays the way it should be. Conclusion, apart from the Process guys, the next largest departments in a major O&G consultation company would usually be the Civil / Structural guys. Cheers!
