By contract yes, you need to pay lump sum. You can write to request for monthly payment. Most case, they will close one eye and let you go provided you pay them back slowly during initial stage. No interest if not mistaken. Unless you're recommended, then that's a different case.

QUOTE(Uchiha Itachi @ Jun 10 2008, 06:21 PM) I am offered for a Material Planner/Procurement position in an O&G service company. May I know what is the future prospect of a material planner/procurement engineer in O&G or any other industry? BTW I am a fresh grad with mechanical engineering degree, not sure if I make a correct decision to take this offer... very confusing right now Its a so so job. But your responsibility is also consider important as quoting the wrong item or wrong price might lead to loss for the company. Some times you might be the middle man, e.g the dealing with vendor n service company so work load might be intense esp progress follow up and during tender. IMO its a learning platform for me too esp on the SAP, but i heard most employee in petronas dealing with procurement have a chance to go offshore. |

wow, considering 8-10 years on the same position is a bit too much, i mean with such experience they would have jump to the other company. Whats keeping them in Geoservices if its that bad?

QUOTE(borat @ Aug 14 2008, 02:02 PM) My friend is currently with UMW Oil & Gas as a Trainee Drilling Engineer for the 6 months training. During training give RM 2700 and after finishing the training the salary will be revised to RM 3400. Not bad for the local oil & gas company if you ask me. And they are drilling service company, there will be a lot of bigger opportunity lurking around if you gain enough experience in this field, company such as Baker, Transocean etc. is this JDC?there has been rumours spreading that petronas is giving a starting pay 3k for all fresh grads. anyone can confirm this? |

there is a definite market for Structures as most fabrication of rigs require them. Majoring in petroleum puts you into much choices of hopping around other job scope instead of steel fabrication for rigs.
