hi guys..I'm new here..I've been following this thread since lat year i think..I'm a chemical engineering student, PETRONAS scholar and currently in 2nd year 2nd sem.

My interest is I wanna try my luck in doing my internship in big company like SLB, Bakers, ExxonMobile or maybe SHELL.. and I realized that I should do some preparations especially for their interviews. I have about 6 months before I can submit my resume to them.

So any advice of where should I start?

And anyone of u ever heard that Asia's Premier Offshore Exhibiton and Conference will b held at KLCC on this coming March 2010??

For more info..
check this website: http://www.offshoreasiaevent.com/index.html

btw, I really want to go but I'm a little bit worried that I will be crowded by professional groups.. So maybe anyone of u wanna go this conference, u may share ur experience with us..

hi guys

is there anybody here who have links, 'cable', or whatever which is related to oil and gas company? i have a degree in chemical engineering as well as executive diploma in occupational safety and health (OSH). i finish my degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with average grade of 3.0.

prefer jobs related to health and safety at workplace. i like working on site rather than working in office. i don't mind standing under the sun all day. i'm new so, i wish i can learn a lot of things. i'm also very passionate in OSH. hopefully can make workplace a better place for everybody to work. i dont really mind the salary.

if anybody can help, pm me k ^^

Rig Safety officer is definitely the role for you. Good pay...28 days on/off

Jobscope:

1)Conduct weekly safety meetings and presentations on a safety topic

2)Provide stop card/hazard card reports on daily basis to town and also during morning meetings

3)Helicopter briefing and somtimes part time HLO

4)Manage safety training for rig crew for all offshore personel

But the real deal only comes when there is a "LTI" incident or lost time incident eg accidents, injuries or worst of all, FATALITIES aka DEATHS. Trust me, even a small cut on a pinky finger can give you truckloads of paperwork. Need to find out the root cause, preventive action, permit, etc etc etc. No huff and puff kind of work. Relek aje in your own cabin /office.

Overall..a nice job with a decent pay. 5 figure salary gerenti...depends on your level and also company.

Hi Guys,
For those who work frequent in offshore field, do you guys really purchase extra insurance coverage? I understand that normally the company will help to secure insurance for you, yet, may I know what type of insurance coverage plan? Any recommended insurance company with special coverage plan for offshore workers? Please help to share your thought and ideas...

That's a lot. Which means your annual premium is more than 24K. I wonder how much is your total insurance coverage.

what do you mean exxonmobil doesnt have position related to internship in website?

http://www.exxonmobil.com/Global-English/H...ia/student.html -- this is the link about exxonmobil's student position.

even if they dont advertise specific internship position, trust me, they hire interns (esp engineering student interns) all the time.

maybe you can send electronically via their website. if you want fast answer, call the HR.

i have plentry of friends who were electrical/electronic engineers who now work in OnG as reservoir engineers, or production engineers , etc.. and most of them (if not all) do occasionally go to offshore.

Added on December 22, 2009, 7:28 am

no of course it doesnt depend on the university. as stated by a previous forummer, it depends on the job that you get. exxon mobil, for fresh grad having an engineering degree, will get somewhere around 3.9k - 4.2k as starting salary.

3.9 to 4.2k? so much? some ppl tell me when in interview we should dare to give yr expected salary, if yr request is high, they will cut some of it...izzit correct? no need to shy 1?

where can i find the link to which where most people will read the post about job vacancies. I know of some companies needing some oil and gas trademans but are not sure how to reach to them. all i know is jobstreet really sucks in providing the service since more of these tradesman do not surf.
