Gas turbine engineers, or as they are called, rotating equipment engineers are aplenty. Good rotating equipment engineers (specialist) are few and far between (in malaysia at least). You have to know all kind/brands like the back of your hand... RR,Solar,GE,Dresser rand, Siemens..  most of the manufacturers' field engineers in malaysia are basically expats..  But, if u know how much even local specialist are paid, i think you would retract your statement..

Err.. specialist after what 5 yrs? 8 yrs? 10 yrs? 15 yrs? Nowadays, after 1 yr working also got ppl called themselves specialist.. no offence to u too, and none taken.

U can get 5 figure basic with min 6 yrs exp. Thats with big operators. OEM FSR basic a bit lower, but they have OT and other allowances that more than make it up for the lower basic.
