I was at K19, the rear speakers felt more like surround left and right... I barely felt anything from my rear like what I feel in Atmos theaters, or even my own set-up at home with 7 bed layers.

Yeah I think row K is a bit too far back (see above pics). it's slightly behind the rear ceiling speakers and only slightly in front of rear corner speakers. i definitely felt less sound effects going "behind" me. i think maybe row H would be better, but I did notice I had to tilt my head up more than usual when I tried sitting at H16 after Dune 2 ended (not sure if that would be comfortable for long periods of time, might have to recline all through a movie)

I definitely don’t mind moving forward, but I have the same concern as you as K had the nice height while I’d go 2-3 rows ahead, you’re gonna be looking up more. Maybe it suits the recliner seat? But at K I was already reclined fully 😆.

Went to EcoCheras Mall with my gf to watch Dune Part 2 (second viewing for me, first viewing in IMAX Sunway Velocity). Didnt have high expectation for the second viewing but god damn the screen quality made the movie less enjoyable.

The exit sign light is really distracting and the light reflected onto the screen and degrade the screen projections. 2/10 do not recommend viewing here, at least in Hall 7.

Went to Bukit Jalil IMAX on Sunday, compared to Sunway Velocity the screen is smaller, but still pretty enjoyable, and audio also nice. Still a decent choice if Sunway Velocity is too far or the nice seats are all booked.

Probably not since the blu-ray release gets the 1.9:1 ratio already... unless the cinema can watch the 1.43:1 then I'll go haha...

:/. You know the movie season is dry when they are re-screening this film in IMAX like the 4th time or something. I say that even though I'm considering re-watching it in IMAX for the gazillion time lol.

Tempting. But I want to rewatch Dune: Part Two first.

Anyone has experience with ScreenX? Is it even worth it? I don't know why the 4K screening of In the Mood for Love is only limited to either ScreenX or the Getha Lux Suite. I'll most likely just watch the standard one but just curious about ScreenX.

Tried ScreenX with the last Fast & Furious series movie just to try it out.... Honestly it's just a gimmick. Majority of the screentime is still the middle screen while side extension screens are black, only during the action sequences where they filmed it wide, will the side extension screens come to life. When that happens, it's pretty cool and somewhat immersive, but honestly I don't think it's worth the extra bucks just for that. IMAX is way better for the immersiveness in terms of the vibe and scenery. I'd say go for the Getha Lux Suite one if the high price is fine with you, at least you're getting the premium movie watching experience.

Ah, I see. Doesn't seem like it's my thing then. Honestly, I'm only concerned about the 4K screening, and I have absolutely zero idea why GSC only screens this at ScreenX and the Getha Lux Suite. If they had IMAX for the movie, I would go for that instead. I don't need fancy gimmicks or luxury stuff. Getha is wayyyyy too expensive for me (and I'm also watching alone cry.gif ).

I'm starting to question if the 4K screening is really 4K quality or not, considering they're doing it at ScreenX out of all types of halls they have. Like, not IMAX or Dolby Atmos? Or even BIG or Onyx? In the Mood for Love is one of my favourite movies of all time and I'm kind of disappointed that they're doing this weird exclusivity and luxury thing.

Come on, GSC. Do better.

Personally I like TGV IMAX in Pav bukit jalil

Newer, less intrusive lightings, great sound (but probably they tuned up the volume a tad bit too loud imo)

I've tried IMAX Bukit Jalil for Dune Pt2 as well, and I agree with you (in comparison to sun velo, 1u, i-city & sun pyramid). Screen isn't the biggest but still immersive enough, audio is good, and yes less intrusive lighting (tho i did kena blinded a couple times from the blue seat-row lights when enough people moved away their heads lolol). Will probably be my backup spot when Sun Velo IMAX is full/too far for me to go.

screen size is subpar compared to the best ones around but the seating arrangement kinda makes up for it imo, not a bad choice if the best ones (Velocity, 1u) are fully booked

I watched Top Gun Maverick 2 years back in 1U's Screenx hall, I made a post about here but essentially imo it's bad. the screens from the left and right messes with the middle screen's image, as the light from the screens reflect off each other at the edge angle, making the image look bad. The audio too feels like it's coming from the front side only (meaning the only speakers in the hall is behind the middle screen). The worst part is that only like 2/3 of the film uses the middle screen, as I believe the side screens are only utilized during 1.9:1 scenes.

It's really a gimmick, and only works if the film is fully filmed at 1.9:1. So maybe Marvel movies (they advertised a lot for Spider-Man No Way Home at that time as the film, though IMAX exclusive for 1.9:1, utilized the side screens fully) and special ones like Avatar 2 would benefit. Otherwise, skip it and just go to the old wing of 1U for IMAX.

I mean depends on what your preference for the best screen. If image quality over anything, Onyx is the best (Tropicana Gardens and Mid Valley). If a large screen, then IMAX, particularly in Velocity or I-City. If a combination of image quality and size, BIG DA halls for imo better audio with decent image quality (particularly Starling, MyTown and Tropicana Gardens) or IMAX Laser with larger screens and better image quality.

I like this hall a lot as well, especially the hall design, dark, non-intrusive and very comfy. I also believe the speakers are stronger and clearer but that;s because they are newer compared to 1U's and Velocity's. Sure, the screen is smaller, but this is my go-to IMAX for 2.39:1 movies instead of IOI City Mall, mainly cause of the extra speakers and better ticket pricing personally.

I would say for TGV BJ IMAX hall:

Pros:
- 'Better' but slightly louder speakers, minute distortion can be heard over certain frequency. I know because I tend to spend alot of time working with Audio.
- Significantly better seating arrangement, less curved arrangement for the seats, but more curvature for the seating itself.
- Seats can be reclined too.
- Less intrusive lighting and entrance points.
- Airconditioning is on point, no odd smell. This is true only for IMAX hall, can't comment on rest.

Cons:
- As above first point, seems overpowered abit for the setting, actually the hall itself can compensate with its arrangement dy, sound travels more efficiently. I wonder if IMAX QC was a senior or junior.
- Screen is lightly beneath expectation, SV & 1U ones are more true to IMAX format.
- Exiting hall after movies is a nightmare for first timers.
