Ok, thanks for that info, I will try to ask whether my kids have any cards or else just try to go through and see if it works. Thanks for informing me about the weekday and time limitation.
I usually watch movies on weekends with my kids so always paid full price but usually at normal halls. This time plan to take leave and go for IMAX to watch Dune Part Two so have to bring my wife and kids too as its school holidays now and then saw there was student pricing.

Haha dude

Today i finally walk in TGV Aeon and i ask the staff why no IMAX lately

They said TGV is finally upgrading the IMAX hall

Yay long fcking over due indeed laugh.gif rclxm9.gif

What spec they still not sure

I assume is TGV top secret i guess

So i estimate is either single laser or dual laser laugh.gif rclxms.gif

Puak 3.56 per $ already demanded the upgrade i guess hahahaha

Xenon will be able to show the 1.43:1 ratio?

Velocity is single laser... but at least ada 1.9:1 la, and just wanna listen to all the rave about IMAX's big speaker how does it sound.
*
Only IMAX Laser GT (Grand Theatre, aka dual laser)and OG 70mm IMAX can project a 1.43:1 ratio image, the rest, including Xenon can't. Currently in Malaysia, we do not have these type of tech. We used to have 70MM IMAX at Berjaya Time Square (Source: Thread's OP first post here), but was taken down a decade+ ago due to high maintenance cost. Max we can get right now is 1.9:1 for both single laser and Xenon.

Considering the big surge in IMAX goers ala Avatar 2 and Oppenheimer being major successes in Malaysia according to IMAX Corp, there are ongoing plans to open more IMAX halls in Malaysia: "Malaysia is a fast-growing market for IMAX, consistently ranking among the top 25 global markets for IMAX box office despite having only 11 IMAX locations currently in operation. The growth has spurred IMAX to move further into local films in Malaysia (https://www.imax.com/content/imax-and-tgv-cinemas-expand-partnership-seven-imax-locations-malaysia)"

According to some rumors spread by few posters here, IMAX Laser GT is in the works in Malaysia. Here's hoping it opens in 2024 but honestly, I don't know what other upcoming films will actually be 1.43:1 IMAX as we missed our chance with Oppenheimer and Dune 2. Aside from these two, there are not many films nowadays being made with that tall aspect ratio as most IMAX films go for 1.9:1, so the value of opening a IMAX Laser GT hall is certainly a risk for cinema chains not only in Malaysia, but other countries as well. This is why I'm pretty bumped out by the fact that Velocity didn't get a Laser GT upgrade despite already having a screen capable of it, especially during the period where Oppenheimer's re-run was happening, along with Dune 1 and now Dune 2.

Teens are considered student, so you get can Student price from TGV at RM20, however, this is during the weekdays only and before 6pm. Most of the time, the staff won't ask for student cards since they judge by appearance, so unless your kids look like grown adults, you shouldn't worry too much xd.

personally the blue light isn't that distracting

Well its not bad actually if there someone between you and the blue light (many people watching dune 2)

It quite annoying if there no one beside you blocking the light lol

And oh yes, Dune 2 is icon_idea.gif heck even the floor shaking when part of soundtrack was played during credit rolls.

Seem like the director have mentioned that it is fine if one does not watch part 1 as the movie have mini recap of what happen in part 1 icon_rolleyes.gif

did it? i watched it there was not. just straight up picking up where the 1st movie ends.

watched it at velocity newly renovated hall. finally able to pickup centre seat as the couple seats before have been removed. i have to say it was a brilliant experience, the screen is massive. theres no reason to go to other subpar imax experience when this Hall exist imo. been to GSC IOI and TGV Bukit Jalil, this hall is just straight up better experience.

For me the starting part is where the clue was placed in, the short summary what happen to the paul family.

Too bad what is missing in velocity is the big ass projector, but hey cant complain when it is the best around in Malaysia.

Just got out of watching Dune 2 in Velocity IMAX and God damn, I feel winded right now. That movie got me exhausted yet exhilarated in all the right way.

The audii really shines here, can really notice the extra speakers put to good use.

+1 for the audio. been to velocity too for the movie. 3 times already this year

story wise I think it has been tuned so that more people can enjoy,
not saying it is light but i prefer dune 1 storytelling even more
(a common problem for sequels lol)

so, what's on the menu next?

Kong X Godzilla next big one but honestly, I'm hoping we get a proper theatrical release of Godzilla Minus One. It's a crime that this is not released in the rest of South East Asia.

I do think Dune 1's story is more consistent in pacing, but Dune 2 had a lot going on yet still pulled it's journey off with epic grandeur. I did get this feeling where this film felt like more than 3 hours even though it's 2 hour 46 min. There's minor pacing stuff where I felt few of the scenes ended too quickly and didn't allow for a graceful uh.. "sinking in" of what had just happened, like it just transitions to the next scene right after the climax, no time to properly take it in.

How good is 1U’s IMAX compared to Velocity? Velocity tends to be my go to for the size, IOI 2’s IMAX looks nice but the size difference is too noticeable for me to go to there for the price.

It's great, check out post #599 in page 30 for my review + photos (#711 page 36 for laser update review). It's the 2nd best IMAX Laser + 12-channel audio hall in Malaysia.

I personally liked Dune 1 more, not saying that Dune 2 is bad just my personal preference. but for movie goers perspective, Dune 2 is the ultimate cinema experience movie imo. you absolutely get your money worth, esp with imax.

The new empire is also IMAX aspect ratio?

Gonna be watching at 10:30am, having high hopes on this hall 🤩

Screen not as big as I expected (or smaller than what I expect, let’s see when 1.9:1 kicks in)… and K seems a bit too far back 😂

Picture quality is fantastic, color pops and highlight is bright! This is by far the best PQ cinema I’ve been into, beating my usual benchmark which is MBO BigScreen ElementX.

Sound wise, punchy bass and you feel the rumble when it calls for it. But I think the MBO BigScreen Dolby Atmos is better. I sat at K, which is on the rear size… the sound from back sounded like from side and not much of 3D imaging. But I’m kinda nitpicking, I still enjoy the show very much la.

The screen size, well I should taken the seats in middle but those need to look up a lot la… 😅 but should be more immersive sound. Man, I can’t imagine if it shows from floor to ceiling 🤩
