QUOTE(Katharsis @ Feb 26 2024, 01:28 PM) Check out post #711 in page 36. It's my extensive guide to IMAX Malaysia. Tldr the best in Klang Valley is Velocity, 1U then Pav BJ as they are IMAX Laser with 12 channel audio. The next best is Central I-City but it's Xenon and 6 channel audio only, however it's still great because that screen is large, largest 1.9:1 screen in Malaysia (3rd largest in general). Thanks for the recommendation! I was under the impression that the 1U TGV IMAX is not that good? I remember the audio there being subpar compared to Sunway Velocity, but maybe I'll give them a try again for Dune Part 1 rewatch! In your opinion, which one is better tho: Sunway Velocity IMAX or Cental I-City IMAX? Since I stay in Denai Alam which is closer to both 1U and Central I-City than going to Velocity, wanna weigh my options before committing to the commute further away.Lol sure your wife won't be jealous meh? You experiencing IMAX haha, or you testing first then bring her and maybe your kids there in the future XD? |

QUOTE(KaiHD @ Feb 27 2024, 02:59 PM) Not Katharsis, but IMO 1U is better than iCity because 1U has laser and 12 channel sound, even though screen is slightly smaller. iCity still using xenon and 6 channel sound Ohh! In that case, I'll give 1u a try again for Dune Part 1 first, see if it's better than I remembered, if not might as well commit to Sunway Velocity hahaha |

Went to Bukit Jalil IMAX on Sunday, compared to Sunway Velocity the screen is smaller, but still pretty enjoyable, and audio also nice. Still a decent choice if Sunway Velocity is too far or the nice seats are all booked.

QUOTE(LightKeyDarkBlade @ Mar 16 2024, 01:36 AM) Tempting. But I want to rewatch Dune: Part Two first. Tried ScreenX with the last Fast & Furious series movie just to try it out.... Honestly it's just a gimmick. Majority of the screentime is still the middle screen while side extension screens are black, only during the action sequences where they filmed it wide, will the side extension screens come to life. When that happens, it's pretty cool and somewhat immersive, but honestly I don't think it's worth the extra bucks just for that. IMAX is way better for the immersiveness in terms of the vibe and scenery. I'd say go for the Getha Lux Suite one if the high price is fine with you, at least you're getting the premium movie watching experience. Anyone has experience with ScreenX? Is it even worth it? I don't know why the 4K screening of In the Mood for Love is only limited to either ScreenX or the Getha Lux Suite. I'll most likely just watch the standard one but just curious about ScreenX. |

QUOTE(sadukarzz @ Mar 17 2024, 05:07 PM) Personally I like TGV IMAX in Pav bukit jalil I've tried IMAX Bukit Jalil for Dune Pt2 as well, and I agree with you (in comparison to sun velo, 1u, i-city & sun pyramid). Screen isn't the biggest but still immersive enough, audio is good, and yes less intrusive lighting (tho i did kena blinded a couple times from the blue seat-row lights when enough people moved away their heads lolol). Will probably be my backup spot when Sun Velo IMAX is full/too far for me to go.Newer, less intrusive lightings, great sound (but probably they tuned up the volume a tad bit too loud imo) |

QUOTE(Katharsis @ Sep 12 2024, 01:33 PM) I'm going to check it in Big Atmos. Tak ada 1.9:1 aspect ratio, so not worth IMAX tax to me haha. Didn't know that Joker 2 getting lukewarm reviews, I was scrolling thru Instagram and saw Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga getting standing ovations when the film got screened at Venice Film Festival so I was under impression that it might be good.@ericling congratulations on your newborn child! Hope things are going well on your end minus the sleepless nights haha. Even if Central I-City IMAX upgrades to laser and 12 speakers, I still can't reasonably go lol cause too far. Overall not really a lot to watch in IMAX now for that tall aspect ratio. Even Joker 2 a bit sketchy cause of the early reviews but will see la. Haven't watched Joker 1 so not really that hyped. |

QUOTE(khainiz94 @ Nov 25 2024, 12:08 PM) Anyone have experience watch a movie in ScreenX? Watched the latest Fast series movie on ScreenX just for the lolz (not at Aurum TRX, forget where edi). It is a gimmick je. most of the time the side screens aren't even up, only during intense action scenes designed for the bigger FOV will it lit up, and the immersiveness isn't really that amazing IMO. Spend that money elsewhere if my honest recommendation.Want to ask, what is the best seat for this hall? Thinking to watch Wicked in ScreenX at Aurum TRX. Since it is Wednesday which ticket is cheaper and I have A LOT of points, nak tengok sini. Thanks guys! ![]() |

QUOTE(ericling @ Mar 14 2025, 08:55 AM) Any Ne Zha hype around here? Same. Just watched it last night, I kinda understand the hype now, it was animated really really well, tho I didn't like the pacing/directing, it was kinda melodramatic in some parts and some action scenes while superbly done felt too drawn out. Too flashy. That said, it's still a good watch, and also proof that China's really stepping up in their animation department. I still don't understand the hype, but people are going crazy about it and it's my first time seeing a film having so many showtime in cinema, it's insane. Craziest thing for me is that the film owner of NZ2 doesn't allow for any discounts & promotion price tho, They even have pop ups in GSC app saying this when you make payment for the tickets. I wonder if it's really expensive for GSC to bring it in and they're trying to recoup back their cost or something, hence the crazy amount of showtimes. Or it is just that hyped lol. |

QUOTE(Katharsis @ Apr 30 2025, 06:06 PM) Oh nice, from your sentence, sounds like you're watching it in Velocity? I just finished the last IMAX screening of Sinners there. Felt it was right for me hahaha, wanted tk experience it's greatness one more timd. I'll probably wait a week before watching Thunderbolts. Heard it's receiving goof reviews. I see... In that case, I'll just go to Sunway Velocity then haha, will share thoughts later on!The film was filmed for IMAX, so it's fully in 1.9:1 (2.39:1 in other halls), it would be recommended to watch in IMAX but honestly, for Marvel, you can get away with BigScreen/Onyx Dolby haha. Hope yall gove your thoughts on the film here. Would be more encouragement (or discouragement) to watch it in cinemas. |

Watched Thunderbolts, personally think it's pretty good, not the best when compared to the entire MCU anthology but I'll give it a 7/10, they are on the right track, compared to the Captain America one. Not as much action I'd like, they focus more on the characters, and I really like the message that it is trying to convey even though it's sorta surface level. A friend of mine didn't like the jokes tho, I don't mind it but to each their own I guess.

QUOTE(writesimply @ May 7 2025, 02:37 PM) This is not a comment on the IMAX hall at 1 Utama. Watched that Fantastic Four IMAX sizzle reel you mentioned at Sunway Velocity, it was stuttering as well, very jankThunderbolts* 3D IMAX has crosstalk issue. Hasn't seen that much issue since digital 3D cinema launched in 2000s. QC on the 3D conversion is a bit lacking I guess. Also, the Fantastic Four IMAX 3D sizzle reel was stuttering. It wasn't smooth. QUOTE(Katharsis @ May 9 2025, 01:13 AM) I'd watched Thunderbolts in Velocity's IMAX and man, it's been some time where Marvel has made a (sorta) non-gimmick film which is actually good... very good in fact hahaha. It just felt so fresh and interesting and somewhat original? Yeah okay, it took ideas from Suicide Squad but it narratively goes in different directions and its awesome. The cliche Marvel jokes still are present where they feel out of place and cringely pivoting an otherwise engaging scene, though I think most of the jokes do hit somewhat, especially from Red Guardian considering his layered personality. Action was also great (that 1 long, no-cut scene on the tower, holy crap). I do the climax/resolution scene for the main villain was kinda meh, could have been more satisfying considering the theme of this film tackles a massive, contemporary problem plaguing many youths right now. Lastly, just feels so nice where a Marvel film is mostly self-contain and do not have blatant scenes showing a build-up towards the overarching mcu story. There are some major ones but they fit perfectly with the plot and do not distract from the main story (nor are set-up for possible future IPs. Looking at Black Panther 2 ala Ironheart. Had to search her name up cause I forgot it lol). A solid 8/10 for me. Agreed on the Malaysia part, halfway through the movie they still keep on mentioning "Malaysia" like some important place hahaHonestly, this film made me very optimistic for Fantastic Four. They still could mess it up but hey, step in the right direction for now. ... Oh yeah, IMAX review. The 1.9:1 scenes were plentiful and well used. I really liked the car chase sequences as the crashes looked quite practical? Might check on that. The IMAX teaser for Fantastic Four with the suttering motion is an artstyle choice (like the lower framerate animation of Miles in Into The Spider-Verse). Fantastic Four has a 1960s period-style, so the stuttery animation does fit that era of animation. After the IMAX logo where they reveal the Fantastic Four title, the framerate smoothed out, so it rules out an error in the video, very much an artistic choice. Lastly about Thunderbolts. They mentioned Malaysia quite a few times (it is a main plot location) which I found quite amusing. Wonder if there's any sponsor deal from our side to make our country slightly more prominent in this movie. OfficiallyAhmad liked this post

QUOTE(khainiz94 @ May 31 2025, 08:33 PM) If want cheaper price, you may go on Wednesdays. Thanks for sharing! RM50 is still alright for me for all the stuff it includes. Just watched MI yesterday, will have to wait for another blockbuster before I'll go watch movies again, so far not much movies are piqueing my interest...RM50 per seat. And it does include snack and drink. And another tip, use Mastercard and check out using Click To Pay. Get another 10%. For me, I like to go here more due to super comfortable reclining seats. The screen is smaller, but for me the comfort it is worth it. |
