For a handset with such a broad range of standout features and specs, the Galaxy S II is remarkably easy to summarize. It's the best Android smartphone yet, but more importantly, it might well be the best smartphone, period. Of course, a 4.3-inch screen size won't suit everyone, no matter how stupendously thin the device that carries it may be, and we also can't say for sure that the Galaxy S II would justify a long-term iOS user foresaking his investment into one ecosystem and making the leap to another. Nonetheless, if you're asking us what smartphone to buy today, unconstrained by such externalities, the Galaxy S II would be the clear choice. Sometimes it's just as simple as that.

Is it perfect? No, of course not. While we like some of Samsung’s tweaks – the Kies air app is surprisingly useful, for instance – we’d prefer to see a clean Gingerbread install rather than TouchWiz. How much of a delay that UI modification will force on future Android OS updates remains to be seen, and some changes – such as the keyboard – are frankly backward steps. There are also some annoying teething pains, such as the Video Maker app being unable to handle the Galaxy S II’s 1080p footage.
They pale in comparison to the Samsung’s strengths, however. The display belies its WVGA resolution with Super AMOLED Plus technology that manages to be both frugal and visible outdoors, while the dual-core 1.2GHz processor does a similar balancing act with power use and performance. Together they add up to a smartphone with brilliant battery life and the most future-proof hardware we’ve seen to-date. Layer on top of that a great camera, fulsome multimedia support, broad connectivity and a wafer-thin design, and we’re running out of reasons not to buy the Galaxy S II. Samsung has upped not only its game but the benchmark for smartphones in general.

And so we come to the end of our epic Samsung Galaxy S2 review – and we know some of you might have jumped straight here to see what we think.
However, if you're considering purchasing this phone, we recommend you take a look through our review, as there's a lot to cover in the new phone and we wouldn't want you to miss anything now, would we?
But if you're after a one-word summary of the Samsung Galaxy S2: awesome. We've been waiting for a phone to set a benchmark among the dual-core breed, and we've found it in the Samsung Galaxy S2.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Seldom do we rate a phone a full 5/5, but the Galaxy S II is one of the most advanced, well-rounded, and powerful smartphones we've ever tested. Samsung truly delivered on its second-generation Galaxy S. We can't get over how thin the Galaxy S II is, and it's a true joy to be able to browse the web with such smoothness and speed.
There certainly is room for improvement here. Samsung ought to work on making TouchWiz as lean as possible, and it'd be nice to turn it off entirely and revert back to stock Android for maximum speed. We also wonder whose idea it was to have the device make a beep when the battery is fully charged...if you like waking up at 3AM, this won't be a problem for you, but for those of us that like to sleep soundly, it's a big annoyance.

The Plus indicates a transition from the Pentile matrix to a panel technology that has three sub-pixels for each pixel. The Pentile matrix shares eight sub-pixels between four pixels while the new pixel layout in Super AMOLED Plus follows what has been commonly done in LCD panels. This means the same four pixels will have a total of 12 sub-pixels. This should translate to improved color reproduction and a generally sharper-looking images.

Samsung Galaxy S2 internal memory explanation
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The internal 16 GB is flash memory. 2 GB is partitioned (unviewable) and all your apps is installed there. Out of the balance 14 GB, about 2GB is used by phone system and you have about 12 GB left. When you installed apps with supporting data, example games downloads, dictionary data, news feed, tweeter feeds data etc, all such data goes into the other 12 GB partition

Battery maintenance tips : from forum lowyat SGS thread
1) Avoid frequent full discharges because this puts additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep one. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a device is mainly cause by heat rather than charge / discharge patterns.
2) Batteries with fuel gauge should be calibrated by applying a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges. Running the pack down in the equipment does this. If ignored, the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate and in some cases cut off the device prematurely.
3) Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.
4) Avoid purchasing spare lithium-ion batteries for later use. Observe manufacturing dates. Do not buy old stock, even if sold at clearance prices.
5) If you have a spare lithium-ion battery, use one to the fullest and keep the other cool by placing it in the refrigerator. Do not freeze the battery. For best results, store the battery at 40% state-of-charge.
How to calibrate battery ?
1.Run the device down until it turns itself off. 2.Turn it back on and wait for it to turn itself off again. 3.Remove the battery for 10 seconds. 4.Replace the battery, but leave the device off. 5.Charge the device until full and then for another hour. 6.**Root users only** Using a Terminal Emulator, type “su” enter, followed by “rm /data/system/batterystats.bin” ( can also be done more easily through CWM or SGSTools app) 7.Run the device’s battery down until it turns itself off. 8.Turn the device on and charge for at least 8 hours. 9.Unplug the device, turn off, then charge for another hour. 10.Unplug the device, turn on, wait 2 minutes. 11.Turn off again and charge for another hour. 12.Restart and use as normal.
Wakelocks?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Use BetterBatteryStats to check what is keeping your phone Awake and not allowing the phone to enter deep sleep
In the words of the developer:
I wrote BetterBatteryStats because I was missing the great battery history that Spare Parts allowed to call on Froyo: - Process stats with User and System CPU time - Network Usage with bytes sent and received - Wakelock stats (the most important one when it comes to battery drain)
This app is still under development and may contain bugs. If you find one you can keep it, but I’d be happy if you could also report it to me. BetterBatteryStats is calling the “batteryinfo” service of Android to retrieve data already lying there without generating overhead. BetterBatteryStats is focussing and has been tested on Froyo and Gingerbread and the APK is set to run only on those versions only. What are wakelocks and why should you care about them? When it comes to Android the most discussed and commented topic that I know is battery drain / battery life. I’m a quite heavy user because I spend a lot of time on the train every day reading my mails, surfing and listening to music but still my phone is off for a long time during the day and while I accept the battery being drained while I use the phone I care about it draining slowly while “doing nothing”. And here’s the point: my SGS2 drains about 2-10 mAh where it was up at 20-100 mAh before I started cleaning stuff up.

Basically, you just need to replace the map data : see tutorial here :
Tips from user selphy : Ok, for those of you who have trouble installing the Google Maps (for Navigation), i had issues too, but managed to do it through the following:
1. First, make sure your phone is rooted, then download the Google Maps-ownhere.apk (NOT the re-sign one), and transfer to your external SD card. 2. Using Titanium backup on your phone, wipe data and then uninstall both Google Maps and Street View. 3. Then using root explorer on your phone (i used Super Manager, which also has root functions), transfer the Google Maps-ownhere.apk file to your phone's system/app folder (make sure its set to R/W). 4. Then just reset the phone, and voila! Navigation is available!

Deep Sleep?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Deep Sleep runs automatically by the kernel and on battery only. If connected to charger, the kernel won't trigger deep sleep mode (the CPU will throttle down to 200MHz). When activated, the kernel will reduce the CPU frequency like notebook standby and will wake the phone when any services require an update in order to save battery.
Drawback, it introduce the wake up lag to the phone. If your phone instantly wakes up on battery, it means there is an active app running in the foreground (normally apps which requires constant network access) or a nasty app did not suspend or kill by the OS.
App to use to monitor : CPU Spy.

Your backup here is often called a Nandroid backup . All your phone's data, apps, settings, roms, kernel etc is FULLY 100 % backup, Under this ClockworkMod recovery you will also have option to RESTORE 100 % the phone status
Titanium Backup is an APP which requires phone to be rooted. You can use TB to backup all your apps and its associated data. You ONLY can use TB in a working phone . You can restore anything from TB if your phone crashes and cannot be rebooted. TB does not backup your kernel/roms,
Overheating Issues?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
For new users and to be user - the SGS II operating temperatures is higher than most other Androids, simply because it is dual core and its thinness transmit heat easily. Some users like to use the word " hot" - I'd said is warmer than normal. The word hot connotes a feeling of uneasiness and a possible burning effect on your skin, which it will not. Most users I believe will use some sort of casing or backcover - these will reduce the effect
If you have been using single core Androids 1 GHZ models before - you will not experienced the " hotness" as a serious concern, I'd say generally is about 2-3 degree centigrade more. Those who are coming over from say Blackberries and Symbian will feel the difference more obviously
Use an app to monitor battery temperatures - batterylife widget is a good free app. It shows you the temperature and voltage and is quite a well designed widget
These are guides to operating temperatures ( degree centigrade ) basing solely on my usage :
Idle not in use : 26 - 31 Browsing : 32-35 Gaming : 35 - 40 WiFi hotspot : 35 - 45 GPS : 35 -45
With prolong continuous usage over several hours it could hit 50 but I'd think such usage should be minimal unless you are one freaking gamer I read the phone has gone to extreme testing till 70 degree and still performs well

Rooting an Android phone opens its core functions that aren’t available when you buy it. One of the major benefits is the ability to install apps to the SD card, which saves space on the device. Rooting also enables you to install apps that required access to system files, example - backup , screenshots . Commonly use of rooting is to allow installation of alternative roms which is faster and better, more features, and reduced bloatware. Rooting will not remove your 3rd party apps, data/wipe clean your phone. And the chance of bricking the phone during rooting is close to impossible. Just make sure your phone has at least 50% battery charge. Do refer to the specific methods on how to unroot back if needed - easiest is to use SuperOneclick, One root solution or flash back official stock rom
Warranty?

Rooting will void your warranty but you could always unroot it before you send to SME to fix your phone. Some SME might not even mind if your phone is rooted.
How to Root? (ONLY For the Original Galaxy S2 variant (i9100)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Rooting
1. Download Odin and the correct CF-root zip file according to your firmware. To check, go to settings, about phone, scroll to the bottom. Look at kernel version, remember the last 3 letters, so let's say its XXKL1, then download the KL1 CF Root file.
2. Unzip the attached CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.zip
3. (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
4. Start ODIN
5. Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
6. Put your phone in download mode (To enter download mode, power off the phone, then press the volume down+home+power button at the same time. Once you see the GT-I9100, let go of all 3 buttons. The phone will display "warning" and some text. Press volume up button to continue. Your phone should show an android icon and "downloading" text. This means you are in download mode now.)
7. (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
8. Make sure repartition is NOT checked
9. Click the START button
10. Wait for the phone to reboot
11. Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
It is definitely possible to remove that pesky warning triangle during boot when running a custom kernel, though you should be well aware that this method does NOT reset the custom kernel flash counter. The steps are not complicated, but they aren't easy either, so read well.
1. Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
2. Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
3. Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
4. Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
5. Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
6. Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
7. Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
8. Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
9.You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
10. In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. But keep in mind, that CWM Manager can only handle a direct "zImage" if you are NOT running a kernel with full busybox support (this is currently needed for flashing kernels out of .TAR and .ZIP files)

First and foremost I am not an expert in such stuffs - this is based on my experience flashing the first Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab and present Galaxy S II. Any experts reading this please do correct me if I am wrong in any way
PIT stands for PARTITION INFORMATION TABLE. The pit file basically tells Odin how to divide the partitions (for formating) and also where certain components ( PDA, PHONE, CSC ) to go when flashing them individually. PIT understanding is very crucial when you wish to flash roms from samfirmware.com , one place I always discourage new users from attempting as it is a trap to bricking a phone if you do not understand what you are doing
Cooked roms take cares of PIT ; you rarely see cooked roms asking you to choose PIT during flash thro Odin. Most cook roms, the developer has built in his rom the PIT instructions
For example, in the samfirmware.com Galaxy S site, you can even see different types of PIT listed and a warning that you choose the right PIT file. In its SGS II site, If you look at samfirmware.com - there is a default PIT file you can download at the top box just above the list of firmwares for different regions. If you download any of these official roms, you will see some roms comes with a PIT file and some does not. You asked a very good question, why is the PIT included if is of no use ? My advise is simply this : If you see a PIT included in your rom, choose it during flashing as most probably the PIT is a changed version from default. You can only use this PIT to flash with the rom that comes with it. You cannot take this PIT and used it to flash another rom - this will brick your phone. When you use a wrong PIT - you have 2 possible scenarios : - failed flash and phone cannot boot - flash OK but the whole internal SD is formatted and cannot be detected at all by phone ( my experience with the Tab)
If the rom downloaded does not supplied a PIT file - than you just flash it without it or you choose the default PIT
As the PIT name implies, using PIT basically repartition /reformat your whole internal SD - once you select PIT, you will see repartition is auto selected. All your data in the internal SD will be wipe clean
You can choose NOT to select the PIT during flashing if you wish to have your internal SD intact. I cannot say whether you will have a successful flash. If is successful it just means your present rom PIT is similar to the rom you have downloaded. If is unsuccessful, just flash it again and select PIT
If the rom file is packaged together as a single tar file ( instead breakdown into separate entities of PDA, Phone, CSC ) , there is no need to use PIT. Just flash the tar file as PDA in Odin
Recovery/Download Mode?

Download mode is used when you need to flash rom through Odin. Recovery mode is used when you wish to do a backup/restore of your phone, flash roms based on zip files, cleaning up your caches , update firmware officially through supplied update zip files etc.

ClockworkMod has much more to it such as :
1. Reboot system now
2. Apply update from sdcard
3. Wipe data/factory reset
4. Wipe cache partition
5. Install zip from card
6. Backup and restore
7. Mounts and storage
8. Advanced

What is ROM/Flashing/FAQ about Flashing?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Q: What is a ROM?
A: A ROM contains the operating system and often additional software which can be “installed” to your mobile device. Most ROM’s provided by the chefs (people who create cutomized ROM’s) just contain the operating system and additional applications. Shipping ROM’s (ROM’s provided by the manufacturer or official providers) also contain a Radio ROM and a bootloader. Please notice: A ROM can ONLY be flashed to a device it is made for.
Q: What is a Radio ROM?
A: The Radio ROM contains the drivers for the communication devices of your phone. Some ROM’s need one or more specific Radio ROM’s to work properly. Usually the chef, who created the ROM recommends a Radio ROM. But don’t mind, if your Radio Rom does not match, you can always flash another without needing to flash the ROM containing the Operating System (OS) again.
Q: What means SIM-Unlock?
A: Lots of providers want to bind their customers. So they add a SIM-Lock to their devices with only allows to use SIM-Cards using their networks. If you want to use a SIM-Card from another provider, you need to SIM-unlock your device. This can be done by contacting the phone's provider (paid & sometimes free). This is common for USA based Tecos.
Q: Can I brick my phone by flashing a ROM?
A: YES. But if you follow all instructions, it is quite implausible that your device bricks.
Q: Does flashing affect the warranty of my device?
A: Yes, flashing an unofficial rom will void warranty. But as long as your device can be unrooted and be reflashed again to stock original rom you can than send in for warranty claims.
Q: What can I do, if i gain problems with the ROM i flashed to my device?
A: First of all you should inform the creator by posting in the ROM's thread if the problem is not described yet. Then you should wait for an update/fix or, if the issue is a showstopper for you, try another ROM.
Q: Which is the best/fastest/... ROM?
A: Nobody can answer you this properly. There are nearly daily new ROM's here and everybody has different demands to a ROM. If you want to know, which fits best for you, read the ROM description and try the ROM('s). Only you can decide, which ROM is the best (for you).
Q: What is the difference between a hardreset and a softreset?
A: A softreset reboots your device. A hardreset sets all settings back to the ROM's defaults. All of your data, settings and additionally installed programs will be deleted.
What is IMEI?
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
The International Mobile Equipment Identity or IMEI is a number, usually unique, to identify GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. It is usually found printed inside the battery compartment of the phone. It can also be displayed on the screen of the phone by entering *#06# into the keypad on most phones.
The IMEI number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country. For example, if a mobile phone is stolen, the owner can call his or her network provider and instruct them to "blacklist" the phone using its IMEI number. This renders the phone useless on that network and sometimes other networks too, whether or not the phone's SIM is changed.
How to Backup your IMEI? (IMPORTANT)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
Every user of this phone should always backup their IMEI just incase something goes wrong when flashing files, use 'ktool' to backup your IMEI, it can also be used to flash new kernel files.

The JIG just resets your flash counter and remove the yellow triangle during first bootup What does this counter do exactly?
It's very simple: it counts the number of times you flash a custom ROM or kernel on your SGS II, so the guys over at Samsung know of it when you return the phone to them for any kind of problem you may have (this is done so they can say whether you've voided your warranty or not). Even using Odin to get back to stock won't help you and will let the counter go up by one The good news is that the counter can be reset by using one of those jigs we all know very well
No, unfortunately Samsung has very clear in mind what it's doing. It seems there is a second counter, which counts the number of times the custom flash counter has been reset, and the bad news is that its position/folder has not been discovered yet.
Please note that ROMS made for the Original S2 cannot be flashed with the G version of S2 or you will brick your phone. Only ROMS made for the G version can be flashed.

If you install cracked/pirated apps from illegal "ahem" sources or using one of those blackmarket, faked android market apps, etc BEWARE that your phone becomes unstable. Common symptoms said to be due to these are :
- unexplained sudden reboots - auto shutdown - unstable browsing - sudden swing back to homescreen, freeze while in midst of browsing - occasional hangs/freeze while in use
The instability issues is more apparent/commonly occurring if phone is on Android version above Froyo 2.2.2 . Gingerbread is obviously more insecure
No one knows exactly how these cracked apps interact with one another and a combination of certain specific apps could be the cause of these issues. Installing anti virus apps might help but is not a proven solution.

Thanks to Spider on the CheckROM forums :
Most people come into custom roms and dont really understand what the forums are saying to them in the terms of doing things the right way, often things get misinterpreted as i understand but really you don't!!!
This is the case when it comes to custom roms installation, new comers think yeah i'll have a go and go for it without even understanding the basics of custom roms, wrong move, a little research didn't do anybody any harm, and is time well spent when it comes to taking a gamble on bricking your phone.
The main thing I've noticed is that people don't understand what a full wipe is and just go with what they see...
Going into clockwork mode and just selecting wipe. data, wipe delvic cache, wipe cache, is not a proper full wipe, its like wiping your arse with shit still in your bumhole untill you wash it, no no no, this method doesn't remove the old system files, there still there untill you carry out a format of the system partition, if you dont do this and install a rom over it you will have problems with the rom you just installed.
The correct procedure for doing a full wipe is below.
Go to clockwork mode recovery.
Go to mounts and storage and select it.
Go to format / system and select it. Scroll down to format system and select yes.
Go to format / data and select it. Scroll down to format data and select yes.
Go to format / cache and select it. Scroll down to format cache and select yes.
That's it no need to format anything else, just go back and install the rom from sd card.
This is the correct way of doing a full wipe everything is erased and formatted ready for the new rom, no old system files etc....

Imo.. wifi really consume moar battery..thats y i install wifi on off Im using 2 email setting push in.. whatsap.. weather updated evert 1 hrs..sometimes skype.. browsing..
I tweak extweak ..mostly left at 1k speed
Did you get alot of emails/whatsapp in that 15 hours?
Wifi actually uses less than 3g if you're connected to the wifi and not 3G. If it's just left on scanning while you're doing your shiz on 3g, then yea, that consumes alot of unnecessary battery
Sorry didn't quite get your last statement. Apart from 1k and those BLN uv, you got tweak the other extweak settings? From which profile you started. Think we all wanna emulate ur good battery life as well

I think Swype alone is quite good already. Has Pinyin and writing for chinese input as well. Use Swype Beta http://beta.swype.com/

Email.. rarely.. i think can count.. Whatsapp countless my fiancee in aussie, so this is one of communication. furthermore, im using this phone as primary.. secondary phone all divert call to this phone.. during working hours, bluetooth is attached because of work nature...
Thanx for clarify.. so installing another apps to auto on off wifi really help me a lot.. sometimes forgot to close it.
i play in cpu, bln n misc tab in default profile.. u can choose it in recovery mode... then start tweak uv and uc.. change governer and test the smoothness that fit your preferences, other as default.. as stated in my previous post..
go try bro most important do check what cause ur phone wake so much that consume a lot of battery..

What's the hmm, error that comes out? Like can't on or can't connect
sorry for the lack of explanation, actually the phone can become a wifi hotspot, and other devices(phones, laptops) can see it when scanning but it cant connect to it after inserting the password. i've tried changing the password to WPA but still other devices can only see and remember my wifi, but cant connect to it.

Haha same, I also always lupa turn off wifi. Mostly I use wifi at home, so I use tasker to off wifi when I'm further from home. And 15 hours on 3g with alot of wifi is pretty damn gila, your other settings must save you a whole lot of battery
Ah was just curious about what you started from. I tweak my phone very often also, hardly ever happy with it
But haven't uv in a while, maybe need to give that a go again. While I do look for battery life, performance is my priority (sometimes I leave it in performance profile of extweaks). Hmm uv-ing bln sounds like a good thing to try, maybe I need to give that a go
i'm using samsung s2 non-g version, ICS version. some of my pictures have this purple spot on it, which i find it very annoying. my phone is still on warranty till end of this year. anyway i can fix this? or do i have to send to samsung service centre? need help from anyone here.

Hmm doesn't sound like a modem problem to be honest. You could give it a go, not sure if it'll help. Does sound familiar, this problem, I'll check back in here if anything pops to mind.
In the meantime, maybe you could try an alternative wifi hotspot app and see if that helps? (I use wifi tether app, as it allows access control and what nots)

Sometimes people will never satisfied no worries, continuing tweaking..
i did try previous uv more than -50.. but it just freeze while playing football game so i just stick with -50 for me, performance vs default, simply can't detect any different while in real usage.. so that's y im more prefer to set it into default..
uv bln, i set to 2700~2800.. so it's bit dim.. but ok ler, when someone messaging me, it's blinking.. pretty awesome .. cause our phone don't have notification light..
I'm not sure if we've a lot of different in term of software usage..

No..the warranty not covered by SME. You have to send to Spore for any warranty claim. You can send your phone to service centre here for repair but had to pay for all parts and workmanship done
erm, any 1 of you use wifi apps? or apps that enhance phone wifi signal strength in receiving? cz kinda many people use line in my hostel.. if i use laptop with wifi, i can surf or do anything with still ok ok speed... but when i use my phone with wifi, its hopeless lolz... open fb,wadapps, or other apps it wont load... or take damn slow time..
Go donlod again..small file oni.. btw changes too little.. if you skip it oso no different..unless wanaa try their new governer..

suggest you go wanamlite together with Phenomenal Kernel. Seriously, its not that easy to get good battery life with custom kernel and AOSP based ROM on the s2. Just try out an XWLPU based ROM with the latest Phenomenal Kernel. You wont regret(you can always use apex launcher if u dont like touchwiz like me )

Try boot into recovery. Or download mode and flash again thru odin?

Once again XXLPB is NOT for DXLPB. Get into download mode and flash another kernel or rom. Make sure there is no usb cable connected to your phone when trying to get into download mode.

i think you use the wrong kernel.
you know, a safe and easy way is to just flash litening rom. i think thats the only custom that is installed through odin instead of cwm.
so just download litening rom, flash using odin, you will be auto rooted and have cwm.
from there you can flash any other rom you wan. i always keep litening rom as a fail safe incase something like your case happen.

So many ppl dl xxlpb thinking it is DXlpb samsung really dhouldnt have done this...or maybe wildcat should change the recommended rooting way to speedmod or phenomenal kernel, WAY more safer. But our TS rarely post in this thread -__-!

delete it using root explorer. It is locateed on system/app. But sometimes it might come back after restarting bcoz some kernels make it that way-__- not sure of cf root though, so just try deletin it thru root explorer

dump bbs file, not dumb bbs file. Install betterbatterystats from xda thread. full charge your battery, use your phone as usual until your battery 5%-1%, run betterbatterystats (bbs), hit option>more>dump to file. browse using your explorer, look into sdcard. should have generated BetterBatteryStats - yyyy-MM-dd.txt file, attached it here and let us see. what's the culprit or human error which sucking up your juice! have anyone here tried sleepy gov? mine, mine... what great sleep. have anyone tested it with gaming performance?
previously using stock rom i9100dxlp9 with cf-root, recently i flashed to CM nightly then to stable version 9.1.0. do i need to reflash the cf-root file or kernel because my cwm launcher icon gone & the rom manager is not stable / almost useless can't use it to boot into recovery mode, cannot install cwm recovery thru it & i found my celcom 3g reception was not that strong as ever since i flash to CM nightly. if i do need to re-flash which file should i download because some custom rom package everything together but not CM right? please advice.

dont use ROM manager, seriously. The only thing useful thing in it for galaxy s2 is downloading ROM. Other than that, no point at all. You dont have CWM app because you are on stock cm9 kernel, flash siyah or something and you will get it. Actually, if you long press power button you will be able to reboot to recovery, so you dont really need CWM app, unless you love ur power button so much that you dont want to long press it

guys need your help.. i cant seem to update my apps, it'll download, but in the app it shows i.e 20% but in the notification bar it shows around 50% and when the notification bar hits 100% (play store around 40%) it'll "update"
Thanks arslow. Yes, power button is the only way to recovery mode now. 1st i thought i mess up something & hence the cwm gone but it's turn out normal. So currently i'm good, right? Almost nearly wanted to re-flash the cf-root file again.

Yeah, your phone is fine. Maybe you can get K-tool from the market if you want an app to boot to recovery.

Thats they new way apps update. Now they dun need to download the whole app just the portion that needs updating. So it will not reach 100%%.
Guys need your help! I can't seem to enter download mode with the 3 button thingy. It's supposed to be volume down + power + home right? It just turns itself back on without going to the download mode. The hardware is confirmed okay, I can press the volume down, home and power and they work properly. You think the USB jig will help me enter into download mode? FYI my S2 is i9100 non-G, unrooted. I am trying to root it.

weird, did you hold all the 3 buttons together? (ok stupid question but just in case)
If still fail, root using doomlord's rooting tool
You think I never tried all combinations? I tried press all together, press home + volume , then power, all sorts of combinations liao. Searched Youtube, see how they do it. Did everything liao before I asked here.
Anyway I did read somewhere that certain models have their 3 buttons combination disabled on purpose. Thanks for your doomlord's rooting tool. Will google it and let you know.

Hi fellow S2 users! I'm helping my sister to look for new casings for her S2.
Any recommended sellers from garage sales?
There's this casing called "ROCK QuickSand" that she saw that was for the S3 and she liked it, but I can't seem to find for the S2 after searching. If you guys know something that's similar to this please do let me know!
Anyway, if possible, preferably casings priced between RM10 - RM50. and snap-on casings, not flip cover type
Thank you!

Anyone on ICS has a decent GoogleNow working that doesn't suck battery life?
Got it from the GNow for ICS project on xda thread, but battery drain seems quite apparent to me. Looking for something that works decently, doesn't have to have a working voice version really.

If you like cyanogenmod, get the g version, seriously. It's WAY better than non g. But if you like samsung rom and all those themed rom available for non g, then go for it.
Antoo, cm runs so fine on my non g. Apart from some known bugs, its really awesome.
Really can't imagine how big is the difference on g version. Got compare hands on before on the difference?
Yeah it runs fine on our device cos we have a fast cpu to compensate for the lack of butter. G version got most thing working including butter. There will also be more development in the future for G version. For all we know they could even get keylimepie or whatever its called while non-G getting fully working JB is still unsure.

I have both nong and g version. non g version definitely runs better with better optimized custom roms compare to g version. And don't worry about the official update, if there is update for S2, definitely both g and nong version will update together. I feel So regret that i bought the g version. Besides the cm10 for g version not available for nong version, which i personally think is not a very great rom compare to custom roms for nong like RR rom, RootBox,MIUI etc:)

Even G version has quite a number of custom development now, should not be a problem. CheckROM no longer available for S2, I can no longer find a stable ICS daily driver to use now.

G or non G. Non G can use triangle away. Dunno if it works on G or not?
It is non G version. This is my friend phone. He upgrade the phone to the official samsung ics and right now the phone always hang. Now, he want me to give him a suggestion to try another isc rom or roll back to GB.
Sorry for my noob question again. I decide to try stable CM9 in my friends phone. I want to follow this guide from cyanomodgen wiki. Its dependent on bootloader. There is no JB official/leak rom so there is no JB bootloader. So either he is on ICS or GB bootloader.

That is kernel not CWM. And it looks like stock kernel. If your friend had not rooted his phone means he does not have the proper CWM to flash CM9.
Flash a proper CWM or kernel then only flash CM9.

Yes u can use the resurrection method through odin. It will have the proper CWM and is easier for beginners. And then only flash the latest CM9 in CWM after that.

as if s2 nor powerful? S2 bootloader not lock also ma. how is sony friendly to AOSP, what does this means?

there is no best rom, every rom has its own bugs, even official roms. choose the one that offer the features you like and have the bugs you can live with.

Even if they choose s2,they will choose s2g, since the exynos platform is not aosp friendly at all. Qualcomm and to omap are the two aosp friendly SOC. not only that but Sony always give a unit of their phone to the freeexperia team for development and even just recently they gave the required updated driver binaries for better aosp support to the community. Did Sammy ever do that? No. The only good thing about Samsung is that they have unlocked bootloader that's it. Team hacksung is having a hard time developing for non g in case you didn't know. G version however, is a piece of cake for codeworkx himself to get it fully working
*can't wait for the next nexus even though I'm pretty sure it's gonna end up with omap 4470 which is the same as 4460 but with two companion cores.*

well, that means it really sak coz samsung tend to kept their technology to themselves. they might have a plan to be like apple one day. if that day arrive, sure will be more sak.

True. But at least samsung does not lock the bootloader and actually gives us OS updates unlike other manufacturers. If you are not into flashing rom, samsung is still a great choice cos of these updates. If your into AOSP roms, better get nexus.

for me, TouchWIZ UI is still one of the best in the current market. Samsung is trying their best to fulfill the consumers needs but we might not get everything that we want. so we still have other option by flashing custom rom.

So,please correct me if i'm wrong, AOSP is like, android OS that hasn't been loaded with other bloatware, just the simple, light android?
yup, cyanogenmod is how android actually looks like. samsung put their own theme, or rather framework, which is called touchwiz to their phone.
touchwiz is fine after having this phone for 6 months or so. But their phone, contacts and messaging app really..ugly lol. AOSP ones look WAY better, and very functional too.

Even though it seems like I was criticizing sammy in my post, but actually, like antoo said, Samsung is the best when it comes to unlocked bootloader, and very fast updates. And their updates dont break the phone, as in make the performance worse like some other manufacturer.
My friends galaxy y was laggy when he first bought it, but with the latest firmware update, his contacts and messaging app doesnt lag anymore even though its still 2.3.6, and his phone is a miserable 800mhz armv6 proc with 256mb ram. I think if other manufacturers, even thieir flagship phones they tak jaga, what more when we talk about the low end phones.
So for me, if not Samsung, Nexus it is (whatever the manufacturer is, who knows sony might make this years nexus!! then we will have some awesome design nexus )

of course i got read the OP, the rooting method for g version is link to another post in this forum, but that post is quite outdated d, and quite long. is there a faster method?

you keep jumping back and forth between cm9 and aokp right?
i'm quite fed up with cm9 minor bugs, but still sticking to it thinking its the best choice out there,
suddenly remembered that there is aokp other than RR. RR is quite bloated and i often get SOD, i think it may be caused by siyah kernal.
i know AOKP not officially for s2, but there are some right? that pier something guy, is that the purest aokp built? does it have small minor bugs like CM9? whats your thoughts on aokp rom for s2?
Ok, so whats happening here? this is pier's aokp website. http://xfer.in/?developer=pier&folder=i9100_AOKP why the July 23rd built has like 16k downloads, and suddenly it lose popularity? some big big bug or problem in following built cause it to lose fans? its the best built?

AOKP has the same bugs as CM. Yes Pier build is light, pure aokp no add-on.
The download reduce cos CM10 came out. At that time Pier also went over releasing CM10 he compiled. He stop making ICS AOKP. So that build was the last one he did for quite a few weeks making the download high i guess.

If i am not wrong TB can read CWM backup. But i never tried before.
it seems like we need to enable data connection in order to send/receive mms. i miss the old system which we don't have to do this in order to send/receive mms..
My sound is on (not silent either) and volume is high but somehow no sound comes out. Be it sms, incoming calls, youtube videos, nothing. No sound at all.

Yup... We even need to pay for it to receive SMSes... And they won't work when connected to wifi...
Model is Non-G Stock Samsung firmware ICS 4.0.3 DXLPB (flashed thru Odin)
Problem: 1. Battery drain issue.
Minimal usage, on screen to check for any notifications or calls. Very few apps installed: Line, Whatsapp, 1Tap cache cleaner, astro, 3G watchdog. That's all
Battery drains at approx 1% per 10minutes when idle. I have read forums that people can get minimum 3-4 hours on screen time on ICS. With my phone, no way at this rate.
Battery usage shows my phone wakes up alot. Could be due to Line, as I have read some comments from users complaining that Line is waking up the phone very often. Anybody having the same prob? Is it due to Line?
I can't give you a screenshot of my battery usage as I have now flashed back to 2.3.6
2. Sometimes after overnight charging and I wake up and check on my phone, not sure whether it is my processor or my screen, my phone is hot. This did not happen before.Scary..Anyone having this prob?
Actions taken so far to try solve the issue: Factory reset, hard reset, clear cache, reflashed DXLPB. Have not tried other firmwares.
Have now gone back to 2.3.6 and battery is doing great. As for heating issue, I probably need a week or 2 to see if it still happens as it happens randomly.
If GB is not giving me these problems, Imma stay at GB till JB.
since yesterday my wifi is in turning-on mode, not a able to turn it off or successfully turn on. the toggle there just dim light forever showing turning-on.
tried to restart the phone, factory reset, flash new rom but still like that, anyone faced this problem b4?

You had that battery drain right after you installed ICS? Could be media scanning or something running in the background. ICS itself shouldn't cause you more wakelocks.
You could also by installing better battery stats (an app, remove the spaces when searching for it).
It'll show you what is waking your device up.
If your device is hot, could have stuff running in the background perhaps? Not entirely sure honestly, could be a number of things. As long it's not extremely hot it should be fine

tried to restart the phone, factory reset, flash new rom but still like that, anyone faced this problem b4?
& it seems like keep draining my batt.
currently using sensation rom 3.5
Tried different kernel? Or just reflash siyah 4.1.3 after wipe cache and dalvik cache.
For the guys who still remember me: The guy from phone stall told me my phone is fixed. I don't understand his explanation but will ask him again. Not the mainboard issue. And he charged me RM50. Still lucky. Will go take next week. Now busying for exams...
Tried different kernel? Or just reflash siyah 4.1.3 after wipe cache and dalvik cache.
still no luck
reflashed siyah 4.1.4 after wipe cache and dalvik cache
anyone want to try to help? I am thinking to send back to SC, my warranty ends 10th Sept, so i have to solve to this quick else I need to go to SC

This is good news! Might flash on this weekend, getting annoyed by the stutter lag in 1.992. Hope Samsung can release the source quickly so we can have a working HWComposer.
Galaxy note latest update got touchwiz UX update Hopefully s2 gets something like that soon New s2 firmware leak today, but no new UI. The note leak basically gave a lot if the s3 and note 2 features. Might not be every one of it, but still a great deal of it.
first impression pandroid 2.0, cool new boot animation. gotta love it. godly smooth and love the new paranoid android setting. tablet ftw!! im lovin it.. tablet mode really improve in this version. man, my last rom before i jump to note 2

Yes that is non-G stock rom but not the latest, but will do lar as long as it is stock rom.
I just flashed this "DXLP9" uding odin, after that the phone restarted without the yellow triangle anymore, but the rom is still my sensation rom , did I miss any steps here? I tot should be back with the samsung touchwiz rom?

You flash rom or kernel? Also remember to factory reset to fully remove root.
use odin flash stock rom not auto unroot already? even it din unroot, factory reset can remove root?
cant i just disable superuser app to hide it from app tray? just to fool the guys at service center
If the stock rom is non wipe superuser will remain. Thats why must factory reset. Better just factory reset n remove all data. To root back is very easy. I mean u sure dun wanna hand over you're phone to SC with all your data right. Plus they surely will factory reset also.
guys something is wrong with my phome, it gets really hot when charging and reboots itself.. on siyah 4.1.2, tried 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 also same
edit - now trying dorimax/doriminmax whatever you guys spell it kernel
Yes.. i do revert to 4.1.1.. because a few reason : 1.battery life getting worst with 4.1.2/3/4 2.temperature 2-3degree higher than 4.1.1.. 3. When in high load.. temp getting worst
now with dorinmax/dorinmmax whatever lah kernel charging fine, i'm suspecting that particular power outlet i'm using after flashing the kernel (i'll call it d-kernel) i switched to another power outlet and viola, now charging nicely with cool temperature..
before this i think the temp can reach until the surface of the sun already

The kernel has just been released. You've just flashed it a few hours ago. Give it a rest and check the battery life after 1 charge at least.

To be exact..its 14hrs ago i flashed it.. 2times changing full battery.. i got 2 battery.. its worst on first batt.. same goes half way with 2nd batt.. flash back to 4.1.1.. temp rise issue gone completely with same setting.. I wont make such statement if just test 2-3hrs oni

The temperature thing could be attributed by the aggressive scaling of the governor. Use ThunderBolt! and its governor settings instead. It will override the default Siyah settings and set sane settings that are good for performance and battery.

That's happening in Siyah (as well as other kernels too). What governor are you using? I'm using pegasusq
question: do you guys have trouble loading pictures in app/online? my flipboard cant load pictures and i get this download symbol instead, still googling to find answer
After using Siyah 4.1.4 for aday i found out that this version still hv the problem when cant wake after deep sleep.... Haiz... Need to revert it back to 4.1.1....

everytime hear siyah, its about battery drain and sod. just ditch it la, and use stock kernel. since siyah 3.x always also hear battery drain and sod. duno why you guys still like it. dual boot that important?
using stock cm kernel, never once get sod also. for me stability > all

Actually i never get sod (unless its a major bug) or batt drain with siyah. Dunno why some people have issues with it.
My stock 4.0.3 suddenly keep restarting after 5 minutes or so. So I took the courage to root it and flashed to Paranoidandroid 2.0. WOW! It's like a new phone now! New toy! Loved it!

paranoidandroid 2.1 come out ad, it fixes some bugs with the paranoid settings. first backup your paranoid settings using the settings>paranoid>backup area, then just download it, no need wipe/factory reset, flash the 2.1, flash gapps again, then clear cache and dalvik cache, fix permission, done.

Didn't get much problems in Siyah as well except for RIL crash (that has been fixed). Been getting some heating problems when I used HSDPA in a place without air conditioning that caused RIL crash though.

Thanks for the steps!! I thought I have to full wipe everything and restore nandroid backup, etc , etc.
so if wanna use & switch the camera between front & back, must use tablet mode eh? alrighty! haha. oh, about the kernel, r u still sticking with Dorimanx? from the thread ppl say we cant use HDMI or something. that's not so important right?

No sir, camera can switch normally unless you change your camera in tab mode. Cant change between front and back camera. Im still using dori kernel. My phone in great deep sleep. Best thing, without sod. With dori, yup. You cant use hdmi. Not so important to me.

aaah. thanks for clarifying. anyway, what's the use of HDMI? crispier display? gonna flash PA2.1 + dori when im back later and see how
doing house keeping, deleting apps that no longer use. it will cause my sound to gone?
i never open this app and use before also, duno what it does
do you use any BT headphone or earphone? this app can be used to enhance your sound setting. no need to remove i think coz it won't effect on your battery life.
DSP Manager + Siyah booster + Good earphone.. awesame man
strangly i cant disable this dsp manager. usually even system app, can choose to disable one.
fine then just keep it there.
i'm not audiophile, any earphone/speaker sounds same to me. erm, how to use this DSP manager? after play my song, need open this app tweak here and there?

im oso not so audiophile person.. just love the bassy sound.. I'm not sure how to remove, since i'm using it
u play the song, then choose headset.. start tweak, move the graph, enable or disable the option.. hear the difference.. find the earphone that based on plugging design.. so noisy will eliminate.. that time, ur gf calling oso dont hear

no la, just set once before listen to song via HP. if not satisfied can edit again. its just a simple apps mate. have you try TB to freeze this app?
Is it normal for s2 to have cracking speaker sound? Like the speakers is faulty when at full volume. Even its cracking sound when at full volume on loudspeaker. Can i replace with any other good speaker?
can recommend a decent battery calibrator? my battery percentage is all funky. and my phone is on stock rom.
the free ones that i was using, just disappeared from playstore.
OR
would it better if i get a new aftermarket battery such as andida, sun global etc? higher capacity ones, say, 2000mah?
thanks
I think better u get replacement battery.. pull out method for battery doesnt work?
Btw..i bought oem 1650mah.. with 2hrs screen time.. uptime 12hrs.. i still got 50%.. which is for me consider ok ler.. since i oso hv ori batt + another 2100mah.. going everywhere no need to worries bout battery..

i used wipe + tb restore, i dont think it will work because as stated in the thread, if you're not from a jb rom, you need full wipe.

Get the Samsung 2000mah battery, it works perfect and can get up to around 5-6 screen on time, depending on your usage also. To calibrate, simple let the battery run dry and charge it to full, cycle twice.
I still dunno why people like to let lithium bat run dry to calibrate it. Its actually a risk for lithium to run dry. You can say bye bye batt if you do it too much.
anything wrong with it besides the FM Radio that I don't use?
So far so good. The default xperia launcher is quite fast. Like the "Kill All" features to kill apps. Many features similar with v3.0.5. Battery life and other issues don't know yet, still too early to say.

Question: How do I take care of a Lithium Ion battery to prolong its life? Should I charge it frequently or drain it fully before charging it?
Lithium ion batteries are particular about their operating conditions, and there are a lot of small things that can contribute to better quality of life. Li-ion batteries have a reasonably finite lifespan and can hold only a fraction of their original capacity after a few years, but things like operating temperature, how long the battery spends plugged in, how the battery is used, and the charge cycling you asked about can contribute to how long the battery lasts. If Michael Pollan had to sum up ideal Li-ion battery usage, he might say something like, "Use your battery. Not too much. Mostly for small apps."
One of the worst things you can do to a Li-ion battery is to run it out completely all the time. Full discharges put a lot of strain on the battery, and it's much better practice to do shallow discharges to no lower than 20 percent. In a way, this is like people running for exercise— running a few miles a day is fine, but running a marathon every day is generally not sustainable. If your Li-ion powered device is running out of juice on a daily basis, you're decreasing its overall useful lifespan, and should probably work some charging stations into your day or change your devices' settings so that it's not churning through its battery so quickly.
There used to be certain types of batteries whose "memory" of their total charge capacity seemed to get confused by shallow discharges. This is not, and never was, the case with Li-ion batteries. However, if you are using something like a notebook computer that gives you time estimates of how much longer the battery will last, this clock can be confused by shallow charging intervals. Most manufacturers recommend that you do a full discharge of the battery about once a month to help your device calibrate the time gauge.
One common misconception is that Li-ion batteries will only count charge cycles if the battery is drained completely in one session; another is that the battery counts one charge cycle for every instance the device is unplugged and plugged in again. Neither of these is true—Li-ion batteries actually count charge cycles based on a 100 percent discharge even when it's summed over multiple sessions. For example, if you discharge a battery to 50 percent one day, charge it back to 100 percent, then discharge it 50 percent again the next day, that is counted as one "cycle" of the battery. So shallow discharges, in all these regards, are ideal for a Li-ion battery.
On the other end of the spectrum, keeping a Li-ion battery fully charged is not good for it either. This isn't because Li-ion batteries can get "overcharged" (something that people used to worry about in The Olden Days of portable computers), but a Li-ion battery that doesn't get used will suffer from capacity loss, meaning that it won't be able to hold as much charge and power your gadgets for as long. Extremely shallow discharges of only a couple percent are also not enough to keep a Li-ion battery in practice, so if you're going to pull the plug, let the battery run down for a little bit. Keep it cool
Another thing that Li-ion batteries hate is heat. This somewhat less of a problem for cell phones, but a big problem for notebooks. Even using a battery at room temperature for a year can bring its capacity down by as much as 20 percent, and the interior of most computers is a mite cozier than than that. So in a unfortunate twist of fate, laptop batteries usually spend the most time in the worst possible state: plugged in at 100 percent charge, running at an elevated temperature.
There's usually not too much you can do about the temperature issue. If you're going to be using a notebook plugged in at a desk for an extended amount of time, possibly running some intensive programs, you can remove the battery to spare it the heat wave. Turning off your computer when you're not using it is a tiny bit helpful. But for any gadget with a Li-ion battery, keep it out of attics, direct sunlight, the tundra, or anywhere there will be extreme temperatures. To the smartphones I've let sit on picnic tables in the sun and the mp3 players I've left in cars all day long: I'm sorry.
Running the battery out very quickly by drawing a lot of power at once is another way to cause it a lot of strain. For example, running a graphics-intensive game on a smartphone or a notebook for a couple of hours while unplugged is worse for the battery than depleting it over several hours while e-mailing or Internet-browsing (heat is a factor here, too). Again with the running analogy: it's probably harder on you to sprint a mile than to jog it.
If you have a spare battery you don't use that often, manufacturers say the best way to store it is at 40 or 50 percent charge in a cool place, like a refrigerator (but not too cold, as extreme temperatures cause capacity loss, so don't put it in the freezer just because there's extra room next to the peas).
These usage points are not going to drastically affect the lifespan of your battery; that is, you can't make it last forever if your carefully cycle the battery down to 50 percent the second it's full and never use it for anything more intensive than the occasional flash game. Most manufacturers will give you an "up to" figure (up to 80 percent of its original capacity after 1,000 cycles, for example), and careful use will help you reach that, but you won't get too far beyond it. However, following these guidelines (Use your battery. Not too much. Mostly for small apps.) will help your reach the upper echelons of manufacturer estimates.
I still dunno why people like to let lithium bat run dry to calibrate it. Its actually a risk for lithium to run dry. You can say bye bye batt if you do it too much.
The thing is by the end of the day, the battery will be 10% or less ready :sweat :
ok. so thats the green light for 2000mah batteries. awesome.
i calibrate few times using app. did the "drain till finish, then pull out for 3-4 minutes and charge" but the built in batt percentage fluctuates. maybe im too concern abt being perfect... lol
flashed to PA 2.10 and loving it except my whatsapp doesn't seem to be connecting. I cant receive nor send any messages. Reflash and still the same issue. Anybody has the link for PA ICS?

I have no problem transferring between sd on cm10 with root explorer. UMS is still buggy for me. Use mtp or airdroid.

MTP doesn't detect /sdcard1 files though.
using airdroid to slowly transfer but it's still ~25gb
i think it's due to the file system naming for stock and CM10. had this problem back in CM7 but it wasn't this bad, i could still see and use the files with no issues. Only this time my fault for not formatting internal/external sd before finishing
Which is why i keep a charger at work and one at home. Seldom my phone less than 50% unless its a long day out. Plus i dun really have to worry about batt so much that way. You will enjoy your phone more.

Something wrong somewhere with RR. MTP detects both sdcard on CM10.

ah i see, lucky la you. I still studying, so I cant actually just go scharge in the lecture hall or something lol
Powerpack? But seriously in lecture hall stop using your phone and listen to your lecturer.
lol, no la, just saying that the closest I can get to charging a phone with my situation is to charge in lecture hall, since thats the only place with a plug. whats the point of going to lecture if just play with phone?
okay if i remember correctly, you go to settings>apps look for media scanner or media, clear the cache/data, then you restart your phone and the media scanner will run again secretly, you wait for it to finish running, you can see the thing running at settings>apps>running services. if you see it saying 'restarting' that means smtg wrong so restart your phone again. reply here again if any problem
I connect my S II to my PC (running Windows 7) using USB cable. On the phone, I navigate to... Settings -> Wireless and network -> Tethering and portable hotspot and I check USB tethering
However, my PC is not connected to the Internet. Is there anything I need to do on my PC?

Hi guys, I'm new to s2 custom ROM. Personally use galaxy nexus. I just help my friend flash from official ICS 4.0.3 to paranoid android 2.1. Rooted and cwm installed. But in paranoid 2.1 it seems very battery hungry. 50 % battery lost in 5 hours without doing anything and all background app were killed. Wads the problem ya? I have yet flash the kernel.

what do you expect if change to JB? for me i don't see big impact except a number 4.1.1 and also a few additional software that unavailable im comparing CM9 vs CM10
unless u go for add on AOSP or AOKP..
Im using siyah rite now.. battery consumption 19hrs (total),3hrs(screen on) on CM9. maybe u can perform it under cm10 and see how. check ur wakelock also

Well actually its huge different between ICS and jb. Its like from proton to Ferrari. OverAll smoothness, better battery management and many more. Maybe its not official jb ROM so u guys still have yet experienced the best jb experience. My personal opinion based on my nexus experience, no offence
I'll try to figure out wads wake lock and update later. And also try the siyah kernel. Thanks for the suggestion. Really appreciate .

i finally figured what causes my overheat when charging, apparently its the LINE app, force close it and cpu usage down.. cleared data and reinstall, now working fine.
and one more thing, i cant seem to set vibration intensity in siyah 4.1.4, no option for that in extweaks

Vibration setting had been removed. Change it in your own rom settings. There was no need for it to be at 2 places.

Did you turn on 3g on your phone first? Have tried both usb and wifi tethering, should work just fine without kies.
sorry but i cant find the setting, under where? rom control or aokp settings? i'm on ics
AOKP should have also, which AOKP are you on? Or you might want to try other ROMs, I'm using Charmeleon v1.2 and I can control the vibration intensity in my setting with Siyah 4.1.4.

already join the party since the first day I got my s2 (if by party u mean custom ROM that is )
took me some courage to actually flash a custom rom, i remember that i was not satisfied with sammy's ics rom, i angry then flash crisleko's rom (my first custom rom flashed) and never stopped flashing since then..
its 999% safe as long as have backup and you know what you're doing

yup, first must know exactly what you are gonna do and make sure to backup all the required stuffs using the proper app. First few times might take a while, but after that, close eyes also can edi
Sorry to barged in. I only observe the thread , as i like to read more, than to ask . Also because i can find my answers by reading on issues raised by others , which is similar with mine before this.
But right now, i cant find any solution for the below issue. hopefully anyone can guide me through.
My SG2 cant charge (via plug / usb) if the phone turned on. I only can charge it after turn off the phone (Shutdown). it is a hassle to me , and upon googling up the net, tried this and that, still no solution.
by the way, mine is stock ROM and not yet to be rooted.
[quote=isaac225,Sep 10 2012, 12:15 PM] i am in stock 4.0.3 official now..i wan to try wanamlite rom.is it necessary do full wipe??but it mention there full wipe may brick the phone?

Hi, yup tried already that one. no error prompted. the status once the charger being plug in , battery icon show the "Z" , but the green blinking in the icon, stay put + not charging up.
let me list down what i've tried . so that anymore bright idea anyone can give me ...
1 ) off phone. take battery (10 sec/ 30 sec / 1 min ). turn on phone. - no progress. 2) off phone. take battery (10 sec/ 30 sec / 1 min ).plug in charger without battery, on for 10- 20sec. put battery, immediately turn on phone. - no progress also.
Desperate / Drastic move : - off phone. take battery out. slam battery to floor. put back in . turn on phone. - no progress. - off phone. slam phone with battery inside to floor. turn on phone. - no progress.
the thing i wonder , why the battery can charge only if phone is off ?

Finally, installed NeatROM. Testing it out now. Funny part, the box still appears!
How do I remove the black box in the background? >.<
gave up on samsung based roms. since LPF,LPG,and LPS, always got a long blank force close bug. furthermore samsung based roms are very limited without jkay mod.
just go with cm9 stable, or other aosp/aokp roms.
its really noticable faster, with slicker animations. better stock/unmoded browser

Hi everyone....in your personal opinion, what's the recommended/preferred ROM (preferably JB) and kernal combination to flash to get the best:
1) battery life
or
2) performance (buttery smooth)
Like what others said, try see in XDA forum and see if any ROm suits your need. I am now more into either Resurrection Remix and Simplistic but for some reason, the latter interest me more

Thanks. Just wanted to know what are the combinations the users here use and any input if they want to share.

Are you using PC usb to charge? Not sure if so, but I have a friend experienced same thing, and solved it by changing to a different cable.. Maybe you can try different charger and/or usb cable..

ah, i guess u didnt instal the usb drivers that time, which is why it didnt work. I wont let kies to be on my pc
I'm guessing it's the driver, that's why I suggested installing kies which is easiest to get the drivers properly installed.. after that, can uninstall kies already..

That box might be some settings on developer options or something. Gosh, I totally forgot ready! Remember seeing someone else with that issue on xda before. Maybe can open a thread on xda general s2 thread? Should get an answer pretty fast.

By the way, after got mess up, I went already to a phone shop, checking s3. Haha. S2 phone trade in, only 600. Hmm... Got to think again. My brain RAM only 512.. so it slow in processing. What do you think?
