QUOTE(preakzz @ Jan 9 2013, 02:29 PM) Yes, he was nice to me too. Just...very strict. Since they did not put any reasons for the result, merely "unfit for offshore" I guess my friend should ask for clarification. If it was because of claustrophobic, she can take the test somewhere else right? Because it's not really bad. But HR have sent the official email yesterday, she's rejected. Not sure if she can still try to ask clarifications from the doctor. And yes, Halliburton. Im not so sure. But hali do have a few panel clinics.its a pity that she recieved her official letter but maybe she can talk to HR to retake her medical checkup |

Hi guys, any process engineer here? I have a question to ask.
Why do we need CHILLER EQUIPMENTS on an oil platform? From what I found, it is to chill the process gas in order to meet export requirement. Can anyone give me more functions and usage of chiller package on an offshore facility? Thanks. |

QUOTE(Pisanggoreng @ Jan 11 2013, 03:46 PM) Hi guys, any process engineer here? I have a question to ask. Pre-cooling the feed gas via a small auxiliary refrigeration cycle is another known way of increasing the efficiency of the nitrogen cycle, and this has been found to be the case for the cLNG process also, especially in applications with high ambient temperatures. The auxiliary refrigeration system is relatively small. Conventional chiller packages with "ozone-friendly" Freon refrigerants are used rather than a propane system. This maintains the safety philosophy for offshore applications. By adding the cold expander, and by optimizing the temperature levels and load split between the warm and cold expander duties, a much closer matching of the heating and cooling curves between the feed gas and nitrogen refrigerant can be obtained hence higher thermodynamic efficiency. Why do we need CHILLER EQUIPMENTS on an oil platform? From what I found, it is to chill the process gas in order to meet export requirement. Can anyone give me more functions and usage of chiller package on an offshore facility? Thanks. |

Chiller. It is, the right term. In fact for my first project this chiller package issue is troubling me until now. Inside a zone 2 in the LNG plant when it is not supposed to be inside process area at all, at the first place. But I'm not a process engineer. Any process engineer, can come forward and explain in details.

Someone told me that chiller is used to cool the gas so that it will "dry" the gas...as gases need to be totally free of liquid when entering the compressor...somehow I was told that hot gas will cause condensation and hence making the gas "wet"...lol...just need some scientific explanation..thanks!

QUOTE(gonzalo20 @ Jan 10 2013, 08:06 PM) cost control engineers came from all kinds of engineering background. usually they started in procurement (now called supply change management) as buyers, but a few guys started as planning engineers. |
