Was placed under this segment back then in the last stage of interview with SLB. I failed. Where else can I give a try aside from baker, halli, gyrodata? (all applied)

hey sifus, i've tried to search around, but i think dis may be d best place to ask.

i'm currently in my final year as an aerospace engineering student and i'm very interested in joining the oil n gas industries seeing as how my seniors n fellow family friends have "lured" me. They say it's d most monetarily rewarding with great benefits. I'm not lying when i say dat money is my main motivation right now.

So my question is, am i qualified to apply for a job in this industry? My cgpa is a tad short of 3.5 Here are the list of subjects i took as an undergrad. Perhaps it can help shed some light.

ENGINEERING LAB 1
COMPUTING SYSTEMS & PROGRAMMING
ELECTRIC CIRCUITS
INTRODUCTORY ECONOMICS FOR ENGINEERING
STATICS
ENGINEERING DRAWING
ENGINEERING CALCULUS I
OBJECT ORIENTED PROGRAMMING FOR ENGINEERS
ENGINEERING CALCULUS II

I'd also like to know how can i apply the knowledge from my course in the oil and gas industry? When we graduate, we'll be granted bachelors of mechanical(aerospace) engineering.

Hope u guys can help me out. Sorry if i dont provide enough info. THANK YOU!

My bestfriend is a mech-aero graduate from UTM. Now working with RWP. Not in mechanical though. Graduate liason engineer.

Btw, some reading material (but in Indonesian) I've found. http://www.kaskus.co.id/showthread.php?t=5029807

Guys, I have a small question here,
which kind of engineer will require to go offshore only for a certain period? I mean, they might station in office or other places rather than offshore but will only require to go offshore for some work in a short period?

Try MMCOG. But don't expect too much. It's a good 'training ground' here. Send your cv to hr@mmcogel.com.my

what is the latest pay range for graduate engineer in oil and gas company ?

In consultant, my current company, current entry level salary is 3k.

QUOTE(azraeil @ Nov 26 2012, 01:13 PM)
Most company actually expect a 1 month notice. It depends on the company's policy. I know some major O&G companie that requires 3 month notice.

*
In my current company it's 3 months. I'm leaving this January and have to pay for the penalty by myself. Two months salary, too bad the company I'm leaving for didn't have the policy to cover that.

QUOTE(noruazumi @ Dec 1 2012, 07:36 AM)
There is no weird nor funky ritual like dancing around bonfire that you have to do if you would like to enter O&G. Just like any other industries, all you need to do is to apply or respond to job vacancy ads. If you would like to work offshore, you need to be fit and have a good BMI. Other info (i.e. companies, SOW & etc), you have to read back those previous versions. Some have done it and they find it worth the time.
*
LOL to the ritual! Damnit my BMI is getting worse. sad.gif

Anyone in Kemaman? I'll be there for two months from this January. smile.gif

Oh, one more thing. A friend of mine is currently a naval architect in intecsea. Works are not much of a naval architect job scope for quite some time now (doing pipeline). He's willing to work/learn more in naval. Can anyone suggest any potential company that would take in a 2 years exp naval architect? Leighton last time looking for a 10years exp.

I think the fe is called atp( tech pro), if you are based in kemaman, you'll be in heaven ( for completion segment, dont know about other segment), as per training, slb is better and more structured, pay wise smaller compare to other service company, but still higher compare to other, and you'll have your weekend,

But I do wonder, in case we don't have any choice for our first job, then we got an offer for the job the we always dream only after 1 year let say, I think we just follow our dreams. It might sounds we are using previous company as stepping stone. But all in all, we don't really know, when the offer is going to come anyway.

*
Sounds like me. I promised 3 years to my current company. But...I have to go. I really have to.

Hey. I'm a lady. Come join us happy berry.

In my current company it's very very normal to see female engineers. All departments. Mostly in process, instrument, electrical, structural. Most of my friends in other companies are in safety. And some in service companies in wireline, LWD, completion. Too many to name. Even the HOD of the instrument dept here is female. The GM too. flex.gif

I am disappointed that a friend of mine have failed in the medical check up for wireline engineer position. "unfit for offshore" the report says. She's not physically unfit though. I wonder if she can actually join the big red but for maintenance engineer post. That would require less offshore works, correct? Funny thing is, she have BOSIET already from her current company. And working offshore sometimes, just not with the fixed rotations. Seems that the medication she's been taking is influencing the doctor's decision. So guys, do you think she can apply for maintenance engineer position? I'm hoping that she can join me under the same company/base, at least.

Try another clinics. Some clinics tend to be too strict for no reason. I always went to Klinik Berkat, Ampang.

The company's HR arranged for medical check up at twin tower medical center. I am not sure if going to other clinics will help because maybe the company prefer only that clinic, I don't know. Is it for employee to choose or employer to specified?

I did my medical check up there recently..the doctor was actually nice. I asked him what he was looking for during physical examination and he told me that they emphasis enlargement around my lower abdomen. He told that people with lack of movement also sometimes dont qualify. Your friend has every right to ask the doctor for an outcome of the result. Is it Halliburton?
*
Yes, he was nice to me too. Just...very strict. Since they did not put any reasons for the result, merely "unfit for offshore" I guess my friend should ask for clarification. If it was because of claustrophobic, she can take the test somewhere else right? Because it's not really bad. But HR have sent the official email yesterday, she's rejected. Not sure if she can still try to ask clarifications from the doctor. And yes, Halliburton.

Hello sifus, I have been observing this forum for a while and this is my first post. icon_rolleyes.gif

I am a chemical engineering graduate who has been selected for an interview with halliburton for field engineer lwd-mwd position. Can someone share their experience on the interview? so that i know what to expect and prepare for it.
*
I don't know if I did share on the test somewhere in the thread. Could be different as I've been interviewed for a post in WPS (Wireline and Perforating Services). There will be 3 set of papers for test. And then face to face interview with the PDC and a technical advisor.

There will be two technical papers (sort of) on physics, basic electrical & mechanical and general knowledge-electrical (which I find not very general. haha). And also IQ test. All these in 2 hours. I'm sure you're gonna nail it. Fresh graduate even better because these would still be fresh in mind.

For face to face interview, pretty normal at first. But expect to have some presentation on your favourite subject or your current work experience, if any. Technical talk/presentation. Be sure to really know what you're presenting. I took around 40mins for this, last time.

Oh, my background is chemical too. smile.gif

Chiller. It is, the right term. In fact for my first project this chiller package issue is troubling me until now. Inside a zone 2 in the LNG plant when it is not supposed to be inside process area at all, at the first place. But I'm not a process engineer. Any process engineer, can come forward and explain in details. smile.gif
