whats the longest you guys have been offshore?

Hey all. I heard from my friends (whose family members are working with Shell) that Shell Miri will be taken over by Petronas in 2015. Can anyone else confirm this news?

Just got email from Petronas, shortlisted to attend the Structured Interview . Ohh man, Im so excited about this and at the same time i feel nervous.

Btw, my background is Elec-Telecommunication, most probably the vacancy is for Elec and Instrument engineer at Labuan. Anyone can share their experience of the interview and also the job scope?

Hi guys, any process engineer here? I have a question to ask.

Why do we need CHILLER EQUIPMENTS on an oil platform? From what I found, it is to chill the process gas in order to meet export requirement. Can anyone give me more functions and usage of chiller package on an offshore facility?

If you take the scholarship, then serve the bond. The scholarship could have been better spent on someone who is willing to come back otherwise.

Petronas now takes no quarter for those who break their bonds, previously they allow for those people to pay in monthly installment but now if you break the bond, you will need to pay in one lump sum the amount Petronas has spent on you which is fair in my opinion.

Again, do not sign the scholarship if you're not willing to serve. It's like taking a housing loan but you have no intention of paying back, you shouldn't whine when the bank foreclose on the house.

What's so bad about Petronas?

I know they don't pay as high as other O&G players & the engineers mostly do supervising (being with an operator afterall), what else? Is it the culture?

When I joined Petronas, my pay was RM2050, when I left after 10 years, my base salary was only 6.7K with a 1.3K technical allowance. I still cannot fathom why getting 4K as a fresh grad and if you are in tier 1, getting 5K after 1 year of service is not enough.

As for PPA, yes it sucks, it's not transparent and usually based on cronyism but trust me, it happens to all companies and not just Petronas. I personally think they have too much power to the HR Division.

Take a four year break to get a degree? 
Not an easy decision. Have to consider all the pros and cons.

First thing off my mind would be,
- 4 years of no salary income
- 4 years of paying tuition
- 4 years time opportunity cost in the form of experience.
