Hi guys, I have a question here regarding graduate studies...

I just graduated this July (civil engineering) and now working on a client side based in KL...sometimes I do travel outstations for weeks..

I wish to further my studies at masters level...partly because two of my superiors in my company are currently doing part time Master in science (petroleum eng) in utm...I've shortlisted two courses...one is Masters in Science ( Offshore Tech) in NUS and the other being Masters in Petroleum Eng in UTM...both of them are taught-course based...

what do you guys recommend? should I go for it? Will the masters help in my future career?

I'm still a graduate in my company and there's no specific role for me..hence I would like to take this opportunity to study tongue.gif..unlike my colleagues now who are so busy working and studying...he recommended me to start now..since junior guys have less responsibility..smile.gif

why for shop drawings, there exists two types of drawings, one is "normal" shop drawings and another is NDE shop drawings..

Can anyone explain to me what is NDE and what are the differences of both drawings? thanks.

Hey guys, anyone can share their experience studying oversees? I'm looking for university for MSc in Petroleum Engineering. I searched a few like imperial,heriot-watt but the fees is too high. Help anyone? icon_question.gif  biggrin.gif

I'm looking for one too...btw heriot-watt having distance study using internet all this while, but I do not prefer this way, I prefer attending physical classes with real lecturers..

I've emailed heriot-watt not too long ago, and they told me that Msc in PE will be offered in its msia campus putrajaya in late 2013...I don't know you aware or not, heriot-watt have a branch campus in msia besides in dubai...and the new campus will be ready in 2013..

for other options, you can try UTM or UTP. UTM classes are held during weekends at KL..classes are from 8 am to 5 pm every weekends sat and sun. LoL so you'll be needing lots of discipline ...the fees is around 15k-20k for the whole course..cheapest option...and most of my colleagues are taking it in utm smile.gif

Herriot-Watt is an excellent University for PE but as you have already mentioned, they are expensive. Imperial is insanely expensive. Most people whi went there are usually sponsored by the companies to get their Masters or PhD.

HW will be opening the branch in Malaysia (Putrajaya) soon. They won a bid to operate the building which was built by Khazanah overlooking the Putrajaya Lake earlier this year. The builiding is almost complete and I think they will start with the business school and maybe some engineering discipline, but not sure about PE.

PE most probably will be offered...i sendiri go email to heriot-watt malaysia, and they replied me the next day..this was their reply :

Dear XXX,

Thank you for your interest below.
It is in our planning to offer MSc in Petroleum Engineering in Sept 2013 intake.

I shall keep you update once the full information is available.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Hi guys, any process engineer here? I have a question to ask.

Why do we need CHILLER EQUIPMENTS on an oil platform? From what I found, it is to chill the process gas in order to meet export requirement. Can anyone give me more functions and usage of chiller package on an offshore facility?

Thanks.

Someone told me that chiller is used to cool the gas so that it will "dry" the gas...as gases need to be totally free of liquid when entering the compressor...somehow I was told that hot gas will cause condensation and hence making the gas "wet"...lol...just need some scientific explanation..thanks!

QUOTE(Stamp @ Mar 4 2013, 06:01 PM)
The jacket legs are sealed on both ends (by rubber diaphragms at bottom jacket leg) during installation to add bouyancy to the jacket. When the jacket is partly submerged in the water, some parts of the jacket legs are subjected to water (hydrostatic) pressure. The hydrostatic collapes ring plates are welded to the jacket legs at certain interval span in order to strengthen the jacket tubular legs from 'collapsing' due to water pressure at this stage.

The seals are then punctured (remotely) to flood the jacket legs for the jacket to be uprighted and put in place.
