Doubt Owen is the one we need. He no longer has that pace to get past defenders when he was scoring for fun for us. If you want him to score you will need to put it on the plate for him, clear cut opportunities right in front of the goal with only the goalie to beat. He offers nothing constructive to our overall play.

Drogba on the other hand is a dominating presence, he can both score and create. Unlike Carroll, Drogba knows how to make use of skill, off the ball movement and a little pace on the ball. He can still be good without the need of players pumping the ball to him. But his super high wages might be a big obstacle. I doubt he would sign for us for significantly less pay and for all his love for Chelsea.

Yea agree. I don't think Owen is the want we need anymore although he is what we NEED now. Perhaps, appoint him as striker coach? Just a thought for me.

Drogba, yes agree again unless LFC can really pay an attrative wages, otherwise I don't think he will join us just becase wanna "help" us. If not he also won't go China la right? lol

BTW, why BR still didn't use Yesil, the german kid? I was read feel articles fr different sites like goal.com, soccernet, ppl rate him (compliment him) as NEXT DROGBA?

Yeah that makes more sense. Maybe he can teach Suarez and Borini the art of scoring.

If Shenhua loan Drog out, then they wont risk violating the contract. There are always options if things happen such as sharing wages. Though I have to agree, at this point of time, I dont see us as able to compete for his wages.

But a summer window which brought in three young, but significantly talented starters in Joe Allen, Nuri Sahin and Fabio Borini as well as two exciting young potential stars of the future - Samed Yesil and Oussama Assaidi - could hardly be deemed a failure as we build for the future.

In Brendan Rodgers we have a talented young manager and we have valued highly his judgement about the make-up of the squad. This is a work in progress. It will take time for Brendan to instill his philosophy into the squad and build exactly what he needs for the long term.

We have been successful in improving the commercial side of the club and the monies generated going forward will give us greater spending power in the coming years.

We are still in the process of reversing the errors of previous regimes. It will not happen overnight. It has been compounded by our own mistakes in a difficult first two years of ownership. It has been a harsh education, but make no mistake, the club is healthier today than when we took over.

Spending is not merely about buying talent. Our ambitions do not lie in cementing a mid-table place with expensive, short-term quick fixes that will only contribute for a couple of years.

There will be short-term setbacks from time to time, but we believe we have the right people in place to bring more glory to Anfield.

Lots of good points there. Some fans are just too quick to turn their back of managers and owners. rclxms.gif

indeed, great words by J. Henry. i'd say give BR some time to understand his players and give the players some time to understand how BR works. don't rush to conclusion yet.

"We will build and grow from within, buy prudently and cleverly and never again waste resources on inflated transfer fees and unrealistic wages. We have no fear of spending and competing with the very best but we will not overpay for players."

This should have been in practiced since 1998. Overpaying has been our hobby. At least Johnny is doing the right thing now. Let's have faith in Yesil and Adam Morgan. smile.gif

Who knows, they may be overnight sensation just like Shrek (Wayne Rooney) in 2003. biggrin.gif

John is talking kok, If they can afford another 1Mil, Dempsey could have scored 3 goals and won us the match.

Moreover Dempsey is from the US too, John's countryman. Br is really disappointed with the loss of Dempsey too.

I think John Henry is being quite honest there, their policy is to build with youngsters. But there is a major flaw in that so called long term plan, just look at the team that beat us yerterday. Arsene Wenger had many years to set up his youth policy and he is very successful at it but when all his players reach their prime, they leave for greener pastures. Ask yourself this honestly, if we finish 8th this year, 7th the next year and 6th the following year, do you think the likes of Raheem Sterling and Jonjo Shelvey would want to stay with us? The likes of Man City, Chelsea, PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid will come calling and they will leave us just the same way Torres did. Bottomline is, building for the future is good, but if you sacrifice the present for the future, the future will never come. Arsenal had consistently qualified for CL, but they had not win the title ever since the likes of Chelsea and Man City came, so even if John Henry's long term plan succeeds, we could still end up like Arsenal. Only time will tell. The good news is at least FSG won't try to bankrupt us like G&H.

Wow you can predict the future? rclxms.gif

If you watched the game you would have noticed the problem is more than just an ineffective strikeforce. The entire team is ineffective from the supply line to our goalie. Strikers not scoring Midfielders not creating Defenders making mistakes Keeper blundering. Unlike the City game where we showed some quick slick passing, we also showed that we are hungry, we want the ball more, we had 2 or 3 players closing down to get the ball back like a pack of wolves every time City gets the ball. That hunger was missing in the Hearts, West Brom, Hearts again and Arsenal game. I'm not asking for a result, I would be satisfied even with a defeat against Arsenal had we reproduce that form from the City game.

Yeah I do wonder about that too sometimes. If we can get every fan to contribute 1 pound, that's a lot eh? My guess is its probably against some rules. But does it apply for fan owned clubs like Barca and Madrid? Is that why they are so feckin rich?
