450 for gearbox must be from Halfcut.
But 800 for labour is too much.

800 is all in including gearbox and labour

kenari is running on obd1, if you're intended to use obd2 display where can be purchased cheaply, you might wanna forget about it; so far only diagnostic computer in workshops can connect kenari obd1. let me know if you found any, i'm more than interested.

Hi all. I just bought a 2005 EZi with 40k km on the clock. The previous owner had it from new, and it was mainly for the grandparents to send and pick-up the grand children from school.

I must say it is a great car to drive. Very nimble, like a giant go cart!

Anyway, I changed all 5 tyres. 4 new 165/55R14, and a second hand spare (the original spare was from 2005, scared to use...) If anyone can advise me on the spare, I'd really appreciate it. The shop says there is no 155/65R13 size tyre. They used a 165/65R13. What tyre can I use? I don't really want a wider tyre because the floor of the boot doesn't sit properly. Ideally the spare tyre width is as original, 155/60R13

Should I look for a steel rim in 12" size? Is there even a steel rim in 12" with a PCD of 100? Am I placing too much importance on the spare tyre? (the car is actually for my mother to drive, want to get a new spare tyre if possible. Just in case)

--------
So what did do when I got the car?

Firstly changed the internal lights to bright white LED. And the brake light changed to Hella LED too (future project: flash the brake light 3 times, then steady on whenever the brake is pressed) Then I took out the cigarette lighter and permanently wired in a USB power supply.

I changed all 5 door auto locks, meaning I had to change the original alarm box. Bought a kit with 4 guns, and an extra gun. All from Pasar Road for about RM 55. Not that difficult to install, only had to run an extra wire for the driver's door gun because it is a 5 wire gun. Soldered the wires, used crimp terminals, shrink sleeving, etc. (I have a background in electronics)

Also installed an auto brake lock. It kinda works okay with the central locking... Start the car only will lock... unlocks when the ignition turns off, so I'll take it for now. Anyone knows what the red/blue stripe wire in the original alarm is for? It is marked T.L on the PCB. I figured out the rest already.

Since the door panels were off, I also tinted the windows. Sendiri bikin. Tint bought from Mr DIY, along with tinting tools. (What can I say... I'm a cheapskate.) But alamak, the tint damn dark, sure kena stop by cops bye.gif Considering to change the front door tint to something lighter.

And the stereo. Had to change the stereo! Bought from Shopee for under RM 40. Spliced the wires properly into the existing harness. Okay la... can play MP3 from SD card and USB, got radio station, also got bluetooth connection to phone rclxms.gif

-------
What about the future?

Nothing much really. I want to do the flashing brake light thing. And I want to make sure there is a headlamp warning tone if I leave the lights on (Had to make one of that circuits for my other car) Maybe I'll change the shock absorbers one day. Hope the car gives me trouble free service thumbsup.gif

Hi guys my Kenari is 15 years old.
Today suddenly can’t open door using remote. After changed battery also same. When I opened the door using car key no alarm sound, car brake did not activate locking system, driver seat car lock didn’t activate the other locks too.
Is this mean my alarm system spoiled already?
If yes, do you recommend to go back Perodoa for checking/ reinstall or outside workshop?
Would appreciate opinions. Thanks.

I posted previously that I just got a second hand kenari.

I checked on shopee and plug-n-play replacement after market alarm boxes are between RM 80 to RM 150. The original alarm box is under the center console behind the radio, and is easy to get to after opening a few screws. Now, if really is just plug and replace, then you are good to go after that. Edited to add : should take you about 30 minutes to plug and replace the alarm box yourself.

I didn't go that route because the actual locking mechanism in the door also not working well. I changed all the locking guns to after market (any where any time can get replacement), and then added on an auto brake lock module. Total price about RM 90 (but I did the wiring myself) Would have been cheaper if I bought online, but I bought everything in retail shop. Maybe will add on a remote door unlock/alarm one day. (But I don't mind opening doors with the key, and also I don't think alarms are an effective theft deterrent)

Hi. My kenari is 12 years old already. Recently i have difficulty changing gear especially the reverse, it will make a loud grinding noise. I recalled feeling something amiss with the clutch, days before it starts making noise. I suspect it to be the clutch plate. How much is the total 'normal' cost for repair, including labour? Any reliable workshop? I live near Alam Damai Cheras

Have you tried to adjust the tension in the clutch cable? The cable stretches in time and will cause the grinding noise when changing gears, just like when you change gear but don't fully press in the clutch.

Alternately, is your idling very high? My proton has trouble with a cold engine when the fast idle is engaged. Because of the way the gears mesh, it is really noticeable when entering the reverse gear.

Either of the above is a "turn-the-screw" fix.

Thanks for the reply! Will send it to the workshop and let see what they have to say. At least i go there with a bit of idea and hopefully they won't over charge for a simple fix.

cocolala The alarm needs to be re-paired with the key fob, to initiate it again.
There's a sequence to do it, which I cannot recall now. It has to do with turning on the key, and pressing the alarm bypass button under the glove box cover, in a certain order and sequence. I did that once or twice before.

Lucky find. Suggest you take a look at the front absorber top mounting, replace with metal type, from Alza IINM, if needed. Central-lock gun needs to be replaced all at once, good thing you did that.

Thanks for the tip about the front absorber mounting. I'd never know things like this unless people share it. Appreciate that you have, and thank you very much! notworthy.gif
I think that is why I have a "klunk" sound when I go over big bumps.

cocolala As Alexei has again shared his knowledge, I've attached the Remote learning procedure. Maybe it will help you solve your problem if you are still reading this thread. (The previous grandfather owner kept everything properly, so I still have the original manuals and booklets for the car!)
