Did you compare their density and penetration? So US 40mbps also charge $65.99, should they also complaint?
Maxis of course is not perfect, but saying RM148 is a premium just make no sense.

Yes, you are not comparing apple to apple. In Singapore, it is way cheaper to provide the last mile due to the concentration of so many of their users in clustered and multi-storey buildings. And the last mile is the most expensive component of the network.

Also, providers such as Singtel or Starhub can also ride on their own cable TV network, thus synergizing the network usage and reducing overall cost.

And if you look at the Singapore user forums, they complain too... As do users all over the world, we are never satisfied!

Not saying Maxis or Unifi are all that perfect, but let's be fair...

I am getting a red light for optical and after calling Maxis last night, they say it is an unexpected downtime because the main fibre cable in the area was broken. This morning at 9:30AM, the problem still persists. Anyone else in Klang Valley have information when would this be resolved?

I'm moving to a new place and i'm looking for a new fibre installation.

I have been using unifi for past 2 years and contrary to the bad reputation of TM, my service has only been down ONCE in the past 2 years and rectification has been done very quickly. I used lots of cloud service and heavy P2P, I had never once felt any throttling done on my connection unlike Streamyx previously. Needless to say, i am very satisfied with Unifi as of now.

However with the same price but double the speed with Maxis Home, i am a little bit tempted. But i've seen users complaining about throttling and less than satisfaction service here and there has gotten me to think twice.

Anyone who has used both unifi and maxis home care to shed some light on comparison between the two?

I use both... Maxis 10 at my home and Unifi VIP5 at my parent home... Both also located in the same town smile.gif

In term of hardware... TM hardware much better compare to Maxis Thompson...
In term of speed sometime i see TM VIP5 can reach 7-8Mbps on certain occasion...

As for P2P cap... i not yet have any problem with it... All my torrent currently on full speed regardless what time...

Partially true for the torrent part. Throttle is part of the fair usage policy. Applies 8pm to 2 am only.

If we use maths & assume consistent max speed for torenting;

Maxis 10MB -
24 hour DL = 60 x60 x24 = 86400 seconds x 10MB = 864000MB per second
8pm to 2am throttle DL = 6 hours = 21600MB X 10MB = 216000MB per second
864000MB - 216000 = 648000MB per second

Unifi 5MB
24 hour DL = 86400 seconds x 5MB = 432000MB per second

Maxis is still 50% faster than Unifi eith consideration of throttle 8pm to 2am by Maxis.
