I'm not questioning on brands, I guess I should not quote XDS in the first place (saying cheap bikes will do).

But do you agree with my point that having a good frame first is more important than componentry? A good lower end Scott and the likes with a mix of cheap components is much better than a complete set of bike with cheap frame and cheap components.

A lower end carbon frame for a specific entry model is better if not equivalent to the top level of an alloy bike..is that correct?

And there are plenty of examples for that. I know Polygon and Merida has their cheap carbon bikes but are very well made in term of its technology stuffs. Again it's not about brands as you say but we can't escape from reality where brand name will always be associated with certain bikes, be it cheap or expensive

Specialized entry level alloy bike will of course be very much a better options compare to an entry level alloy bike from Exitway..it goes on and on.

You are absolutely Correct! hence I'm not saying ALL brands comparison, I mentioned spesific brands

In my reply above I would say my range of brands cater for the budget entry level, Exitway, XDS, polygon, Merida, and such.

you got me all wrong... i was actually trying to expand on your point to get a good complete bike rather than skimp on the costs and get a cheaper alternative of brands like exitway / xds and blah blah...

it's one thing to have a poorly made frame.. it's another to have a bike with badly paired component group... with a low end group on a reputable bike... you choose when you want to spend your hard earned dollar to upgrade it.. (you are in control)... with a bike that has lousy parts, you are practically at it's mercy of the part failing on you and you are forced to spend money to repair it (not upgrade, but repair it back to the same state if you do not have the $ for an upgrade at the same time).. that, most of the time leaves you in no man's land...

trust me... i experienced it before on my el-cheapo MTB made by gin huat.... i spent the total of the bike to replace failed parts... 1 crankset and a wheelset almost killed the cost of the entire bike...

then of course comes the next level of affordability... not essential, but saves you future pains... which is to get suitable groupset so you do not need to worry about upgrading it down the road.. hence, the tiagra 10s and 105 recommendation if you can afford it... it's not about a beginner or not beginner thing... it's how you sensibly spend your money...

my example of the look 566 with mixed 105 is quite poorly packaged one for some people, maybe...but it is just decent for the price paid...if you were to build it from ground up... it would cost a bit more than the price i saw... and i saw some road racers packaged with tiagra somemore... it's an inevitable thing that the manufacturers want to make the bike acceptable by all levels of market...hence, they spec it down to make it more palatable by people who do not have that much money...

think the point is just don't be a scrooge or bear your own consequences in the future... you can't hope to drive a 2012 Honda with a budget for a kancil... not possible unless it's a stolen 2012 honda...

try BTS... bike tech subang.. throw out brother vin_ann's name again... might land you some benefits... jus dunno wat they are... maybe +35% on retail...

Okay, do not know much about SRAMs since I've been reading more about Shimano parts, but it's 10 speed IIRC.

These two are old bikes but nicer brands, a 2013 Scott S20 and Merida Race Lite 904 would set me back around that price range as well, (At least according to the guy on the phone la)

What would usually be the setback when it comes to older bikes?

you better ask first... the bike might not be even around anymore... and sizing problems since it's an old bike with limited stock in hand?

the last year 105 SR01 already is over RM5k... you make a guess..

just want to add; if the sizing is not suitable for you, DO NOT buy it even if they drop the price or super attractive discounts. NEVER buy incorrect size.

Yeah I guess. Sizing could be an issue oh well :/ will take your advice and not rush into any decision, still looking around and weighing my option.

Do you guys meet up for any yumcha/TT session? Asking questions on LYN makes me feel like I'm looking to be fed with knowledge without doing any research on the internet, so might as well make the best out of everything and be spoon fed when I meet up with u all
