QUOTE(miaopurr @ Oct 29 2012, 10:38 AM) it's just the truth... it makes you wonder why USPS can do it while DHL does not... DHL must be the team sky of the courier business...and the funny thing is... all USPS shipment no matter express, priority or i can't remember the other type... arrives with SpeedPost (poslaju) that is not very speedy.. but it arrives without any kidnapping or any sort, most importantly... maybe poslaju got insider that help sneak the packages pass and right under the customs nose... or vin_ann must have bought something really haram or he is just purely sueh that the customs always like to target him... QUOTE(butthead @ Oct 29 2012, 10:33 AM) what difference does that make from those bicycle carton boxes??? unless you are traveling without your bike in sight... dun see the point... i have no chance to choose USPS wo.... it's all DHL... err... isn't it that you should have already expect getting taxed buying stuff from out of country?? i think particularly it is also which courier they use? DHL from my experience is damn stupid at avoiding the authorities... my US shipments in the past all with USPS (dopers mail) has no issues... i think it comes from accumulated experience from dodging the anti doping agencies... my shipments from hong kong post also no problem... UK i am not sure wat courrier they run... but my priority is always USPS (once, again...not that i support lance) if i ship out something from US... or if the seller can mark it as Gift or under-declare it... else... dun get your hopes high... its just matter of declaration! i wish there's option to declare as gift.... |

QUOTE(vin_ann @ Oct 29 2012, 11:02 AM) i have no chance to choose USPS wo.... it's all DHL... well, if you split shipment into 2 to halve the declared price.. you get hit with double shipment charges.. if you ship it all in one go... you get hit with taxation... you've gotta weigh your options...its just matter of declaration! i wish there's option to declare as gift.... usually if it's a legit business... they will never do that for you as they will get into trouble with customs just to do your a favor if customs decide to backtrack it... if ebay sellers... they might take some risk and mark it as gift... but then it should not be too eye catching like flying a damn carton box containing a bike and 10 sets of wheels and then labeling it as gift.... it'll never work if it raises the suspicion of the customs people... my USD300++ wheel parts came to KL via USPS without any hitches... damn long to arrive... almost 3 week.. but it arrived never the less... Lance is good at manipulating things to go his way... that is a known fact, not debatable with or without this doping case... much like how michael schumacher and Scuderia Ferrari did the same in years where they were at the top of the sport... it's all a show... Armstrong appearance & rise after the Festina scandal was like a white knight to the rescue. Everybody wanted & ENABLED him to succeed. That's how he got the Tour de Force. Circa 2000-2005 nothing could stop him. That was the WINDOW of Cycling TDF Glories. Then like you say Landis (T/E 11 to 1 eh) & Chicken got caught. LA mistake was he thinks he is UNTOUCHABLE by coming out of retirement in 2009. That's what happened to arrogant bullies. Hubris has been the downfall of many dictators. as long as not electronics or mobile phones...
else, you have to deal with SIRIM and stuff even worst... If you guys are sending stuff from UK you need to request the seller to use ParcelForce (but not the fastest service) / Airsure if you want the items to arrive via normal system (eg like Speedpost from HK).
Also UK prices normally include VAT, if you are buying as an export customer the company should remove this 20% VAT for you - in many cases they don't as they're not too experienced with exports. It's all about the declaration - if you're using TNT/DHL/FedEx the sender is required to include 3-5 copies of commercial Invoice which normally include the full value - by ensuring all the details are correct you can work out all charges beforehand. You can check Malaysia's customs tarrif and ask the seller to use the relevant HS code to declare the goods (search for 8712 on http://tariff.customs.gov.my/) I send myself medical stuff which is expensive/not available here by courier (TNT) from UK and everything is done so it gets "pre clearance" already before arriving at KLIA, and doesn't get stopped/delayed or charged. I sent my bicycle via cargo to KLIA cargo and I didn't incur any duty/tax, only RM60 in clearance/handling fees which is normal (I didn't use an agent, did the clearance myself) And yes SIRIM is a bit of a pain, last time I sent 2 x iPhone 4S at first launch declared at full value (due to insurance purposes) - 0% tax/sales tax but RM 250 agent charges to get the SIRIM approval which took a couple of days This post has been edited by rjb123: Oct 29 2012, 12:28 PM |

Hey guys, I'm no cyclist, hopefully YET. Am having some thoughts over joining the cycling circle.
I know that road bikes don't come cheap and they come in various customizable stuffs. Say I'm looking for a decent bike to get myself started, what should I emphasize and how much should I allocate? Thanks |
