Sorry for wrongly worded question. I mean turn off the Thomson Wifi entirely except LAN.

Thank you very much sifu notworthy.gif

Now I'm solely on my Linksys WRT54G Wifi router on AP mode connected LAN to LAN with Thomson while my IPTV LAN to LAN with my Linksys WRT54G. Much better signal coverage for the entire house and no need TP-Link Nano router wifi signal bridging liau.

You know, when the Maxis RM118/10MB promotion came out, I almost signed up for it, but decided to wait and see when people warned me of the famous Maxis "hidden clause/ hidden cost" issue. When the promotion ended, I felt like I missed out on a great deal, and was rather upset with myself for not taking up the offer. I was even contemplating forking out for the RM148/10MB offer. But having read your account, I'm glad I didn't sign up. Even during the worst days of my streamyx experience, I've never had to deal with this kind of incompetence in dealing with Streamyx's 100 helpline. I'm not saying that they are competent - just that this whole thing about appointment being set from 5pm to 7pm to 8pm smells to me very much like an organization which is currently out of its depth, having overstretched its CS capabilities and currently being inundated with service issues and customer complaints.

Frankly, the RM118 always sounded like it was too good to be true. I guess the only way they could get that price point was to go cheap on routers and equipment. I do wonder, though, about the Maxis equipment procurement process. Did they choose the Thompson out of a brochure based on a price point? Did their tech team actually test the product out, running it through a normal use scenario (which in this country means a certain amount of torrenting and downloading)?

Meanwhile, I think I'll just sit back and wait a little longer. Now that everyone has jumped off the streamyx bandwagon onto unifi and Maxis ftth, my streamyx line has been relatively trouble-free, so no need to get aggravated calling up the "help" lines. I think I'll wait until Maxis wises up and starts providing reliable equipment, or TIME broadband comes to my area.

i've to agree with you that streamyx has been good in recent times.. i am a streamyx user before changing to maxis ftth

the main problem for maxis ftth is almost everything is outsourced, from installation to customer service... that is the main reason for below par performance

using streamyx, i can browse, opening up many tabs at once with no problem... but with maxis ftth, as you guys know, it will hang/freeze and need to refresh a few times for the tab pages to work... this can be very irritating if you surf a lots and used to open a new tab in your surfing habit

the main advantage for maxis ftth is if you download a lot, like torrent, than you got a fast download compares to
streamyx... i use my ipad to download apps and sometimes watching movies, the speed is superb... a 10mb apps is ready within 10 seconds

for gamers, latency is a big issue, maybe unifi is much better and stable... it seems the maxis ftth server is overload and slow at times

whether to change your streamyx or not, it all depends on what you do with your internet connection... but do not expect 100% perfection... maxis ftth is new and problems is part of it

I subscribed rm118 package, although I face little problem with the router, but I feel happy that I subscribed ontime. No regret.

At the moment, I have put on a notebook cooler at the bottom of the router and turned off the wifi. Planning to offload wifi to the TP-link nano AP. so far so good.

When u use the nano router I believe it's USB powered so can the Thompson power it? Win !

LowYat Plaza. Price of two units. Bought brand new on 16 June. Now Let go extra unit at RM50 COD Puchong.

Yes Micro USB port for power supply. I use it on Bridge mode in study room upstairs where wifi signal is weak.
I also tested Nano LAN to LAN with Thomson in AP mode, working perfectly and same signal strength if not better than Thomson albeit its tiny form factor.

Source: http://npr.me.uk/telnet.html

NOTE: DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Telnet to Router
1. Go to Windows Start button, type "cmd". Command Prompt will be launched.
2. key in "telnet 192.168.1.254" and press enter
3. Key in username (Administrator) and password (Access Key at the bottom of your router).

Disable session timeout (You only need to do this once only, unless you reset your router)
4. Key in "env set var=SESSIONTIMEOUT value=0"
5. Key in "saveall"

Set Google DNS
6. Key in "dns server route add dns=8.8.8.8 metric=0 intf=eInternet"
7. Key in "saveall"
8. Restart router

Done smile.gif

__

If you do not have telnet in your command prompt, you can try Putty (Download)

Haha.. Maybe Thomson is scamming Maxis rather than Maxis scamming us.

Judging by the number of router and/or connection issues on this thread alone, we probably have a case for the national consumer complaints centre already  cool2.gif

Had I noted my username number the other day, I probably would've bought and setup another router already.
*
ok, i have my connection back now. yesterday 'saja kacau' the helpline (had to wait another 20 minutes, since it's toll free i didn't mind wasting the time), deceivingly told them that the Maxis technicians had promised to come replace the router yesterday laugh.gif before they checked things out and told me someone will be in touch with me before the end of the day. I finally received the call just before tarawih prayers (wow these guys must work loooonnnggggg hours) confirming that someone will come around 4 to 5 pm today.

The guy came early at 345pm just now. Straight away replaced the router, no questions asked. When I asked him how common is the faulty Thomson router problem, he just smiled and laughed politely. He said "Kita technician tengok saja ini router sudah tau mmg banyak problem punye".

Which is why for now, I'll wait a little longer for Maxis FTTH to stabilize and settle down. Too many early adopter issues to deal with at the moment. I would like to say that I had expected better from Maxis, but nowadays stuff like this doesn't surprise me anymore. Right now, it seems like Time > Maxis > Unifi > Streamyx in terms of perceived reputation. Before this promo, I had Time and Maxis at about the same level...now, with all the issues, I hope that Maxis doesn't descend down to Streamyx level in terms of reputation.

in actual fact, maxis ftth has been around since 2010, right? what's happening now is probably not growing pains, just cost-cutting and operational inefficiencies.

Perhaps this is the reason why my Streamyx 4mb has been trouble free for nearly 2 years which is also the time when Unifi came into play.

I am really loving my Streamyx.
I am using a 4mb though at only RM88.
Got it under the UniPack promo back in September 2010.

Now I need to either jump onto the Maxis Home or Unifi as if I want to enjoy a similar speed on Streamyx, I would need to spend >RM200! Which is crazy.
So I've decided on Maxis as it is much cheaper at RM118 compared to Unifi's VIP5 at RM150.

I don't really care about speed.
Well, I do, but I don't really need 10mb as I don't download.
I just want to use internet without any hiccups.

If Unifi VIP5 costs the same as Maxis 10mb, I would've taken Unifi hands down but
to save RM30 at twice the speed, it just seemed like a no brainer.

Yeah. I love my 4mb Streamyx wub.gif

What??!! Cannot open multiple tabs at once?
Why is that?

I need to keep min. 5 tabs open at once for work purposes.
What is the problem with opening many tabs?
It's not like we are downloading torrents.
Just web pages.

If you don't need speed, don't watch HD IPTV, don't view YouTube in 1080 HD, not sharing bandwidth with family members then better stick to CoolUniPack.
But RM88 CoolUniPack doesn't include TM homeline rental of RM26 per month. If added in, the monthly commitment is only RM4 short from MHF RM118, yet no free minutes and unlimited calls.
Did you manage to secure the RM118 promo ?

MaxisBB default password is empty (no password). That's why you can see the admin page without need to enter any password if you go to http://192.168.1.254 via wired connection. You may change this empty password to something more secure if you want.

By the way; if you want to access backup/restore router configuration page, the administrator account level is required. You may login via this URL address http://192.168.1.254/backup.lp?be=0&l0=1&l...=BACKUP_RESTORE using your administrator credential which is working previously. I hope you can login as administrator through this URL address. tq
*
no.. what i mean is i can login using Administrator as username and access key behind the thomson router as password before i did the reset. Administrator account got extra setting options compare to normal user account.

backup and restore page need administrator login.. normal MaxisBB account wont have this feature.. i have done backup configuration before reset..

after reset i cant login into administrator account anymore.. password incorrect.. tried serial number also but no luck

I guess you have to call the customer service and request them to recreate the Administrator account.
They would be able to do it.
