S16/SAGA FLX, the old people's car.

I don't get it, why Proton can produce a normal spec 1.6FLX for export, and didn't bother doing it for the local market, not everyone who wants the 1.6 FLX to be a "SE" that just shouts "boy racer", I would gladly have the option to have a standard executive spec 1.6 FLX without all the leather seats and all. doh.gif

The FLX SE is in competition with the Myvi SE, because the Persona B-line with the same price is a kosong car. If they came up with a 1.6 exec variant priced in between 1.3 Exec and 1.6 SE, it will decimate the sales of both models, and without all those "boy racer" shet like rims, leather seat and bodykits, it cannot contend with the Myvi SE.

Also, did you just called my car a "boy racer"?

I don't know what's up with the minds of those marketing guys with all the "Special Editions", it's not any special when there's like a billion(i know, I'm exaggerating) of them on the road, no doubt the Persona B-line is A LOT LESS ATTRACTIVE in terms of value when you compare the FLX SE with it, even though a smaller car, it came with ABS(which matters a lot for a daily driver), Air Bags, leather seats, alloy rims, bodykit and stuff.

But, seriously, I'm thinking of getting the 1.6 FLX for the bigger capacity engine(which doesn't have to work as hard compared to the 1.3, without forced induction and with similar engine technologies, no doubt, no replacement for displacement), but since it'll probably be driven most of the time by my Mum, don't you think it'll just be a little too "boy racer" for a retiree? That's what my "boy racer" image is pointing to, not everyone fancies different coloured bodykits.

And I want to stand in that I'm not a Proton basher if you're thinking so, I've owned a couple of Protons, with a 15 year-old Wira being the longest in possession, I just wished there's some sort of option to get a normal 1.6 FLX without the SE instead.

Same goes to the MyVI 1.5, I bet there are people that wished it didn't look so flamboyant instead, but undeniably, the kit on the MyVI SE looked decent by itself.

p/s: Sorry if I offended any FLX SE owners by the "boy racer" label, I, for one, am considering getting one, but I bet I get the "boy racer" image tagged on if I get one as well. laugh.gif

if i'm not mistaken, there's saga fl 1.6 exec, the one released before saga flx. 1.6 auto, 14 inch rim
no abs nor ebd mentioned and no leather no bodykit only stripes on the side and different rim design

or can buy 1.6 flx then change both bumper to flx, remove side skirt and replace rim to flx.
i'm sure any flx owner looking forward to exchange.. rclxms.gif

or for bodykit can re-paint

It's only June now... blink.gif blink.gif

Strut bars reduce chassis flex. Chassis flex is one of the factors that defines the handling characteristics of a car, alongside springs and absorbers, but chassis flex is less predictable. So I guess by reducing chassis flex, you get better response and predictable handline.

If it will be mostly driven by your mom, the 1.3 should suffice.

The 1.3 Campro paired with CVT is not underpowered like the BLM auto as the CVT is more efficient in delivering the engine power to the wheels. For normal city drive or even highway, it does perfectly fine.

Basically, all those bodykit and stuffs is to wrap the package up nicely to attract buyers. As it stands, the 1.6 FLX SE is perhaps the best value for money sedan in the Malaysian market.

Never crossed my mind you were a Potong basher, btw, considering what you have for your avatar.

I think the 1.6 FL with the normal 4 speed auto is still on sale, but hard to find stock. It's still listed on Proton Edar's website. But yes I know, the whole point of getting the FLX is having the awesome CVT gearbox.

Anyway maybe it's possible to get the FLX SE and then remove the bodykit to make it look more normal.

PS I haven't seen many FLX SEs around, but if you think they're boyracer-ish, every time I look at the driver it's a female icon_idea.gif

The strut bar reduces body roll in corners, right? Any side effects? Another thing I can't stand is that when I corner on a bumpy surface (specifically KL Sentral going to Jalan Damansara, joining just before the National Museum), the car tends to sway left and right. That's due to the rear torsion beam suspension?

Agree. I've never described 1.3 manual as underpowered, even with five on board. With the CVT low end torque should be even better. Why not test drive the 1.3 FLX first.

AFAIK, strut bar does not reduce roll by any significant amount. For that you need an antiroll bar or stiffer suspensions.

The swaying part on bumpy road, if it's anything like what I experience then yea it's the torsion beam. When one rear wheel goes up, the other tends to follow, which causes your rear wheels to "hop" and your butt to sway.
