Many customers bought UF (UltraFiltration) Membrane filters because the design is slim and looks much nicer compared to those big and bulky sand filters. However, they are not aware, how ugly the filter looks like after installation.

If u have choosen to purchase any outdoor water filters because of the design, i suggest you ask the seller to show u some photos how the unit looks like after installation. Here is a sample, the photo on the left is the standard design that shops are selling in malaysia

I am planning to add a water softener to my home since we have hard water problems. I plan to also run a separate line off the softener so I can wash my cars.

I am also planning on buying a electromagnetic water softener which my plumber recommends. This will allow it to be run through the entire house and be used for cooking, ice cubes and drinking.

Have any of you had any experience with this kind of softener instead of the typical salt based systems.

Thanks!

Update: I got fleck water softener from Amazon, it is working nicely but still I have to wait for 30 days before coming down to any conclusion. If in case you need a review site then I got it from watergadget.com

Dont think malaysia got hard water probem. Just do a quick google, and this is what i found, hope it helps smile.gif

Definition of Hard Water
"Water described as "hard" means it is high in dissolved minerals, specifically calcium and magnesium. Hard water is not a health risk, but a nuisance because of its tendency to cause mineral buildup in water pipe and heating systems, and its poor soap and/or detergent performance when compared with soft water."

Yes our water contains calcium and magnesium but not HIGH in content til it affect soap/detergent performance. WHen u r washing with detergent and there is very little foam forming, that is when we call hard water which Malaysia do not have this problem

However, if your objective to have a water softener to remove calcium and magnesium so that we wont have water marks on our taps and cars, then forget about getting the water softener as it wont solve the problem

WATER SOFTENER
"A water softener replaces calcium and magnesium with sodium. Sodium salts still will leave water spots, but they can be readily rinsed off, unlike calcium and magnesium"

ELECTRONIC WATER CONDITIONER
"Electronic water conditioners work by using an electronic field to alter the shape and charge of the calcium particles within the water, so they are less able to stick to pipes and surfaces"
As it only alter the shape and charge, calcium is still in water, hence will still have watermark

water is water, never try to change or add additives. What we want is clean water that suitable to drinks by removing contaminants only.

Disagree with u, bro.

You have never lived in Perlis, have you? The whole state is situated on limestone geology, hard water is a fact of life there.

I'm using this type, does the job pretty well.

Replace filter every 2 months

In my opinion, much more cheaper and easy to replace/repair if leak

My condo has this filter at POE and another at the master bedroom's bathroom water heater.

Both get filthy at the same time after just 2 months. Even the bathroom one also. And there are only two people living in my unit (my water bill is always RM9 every month).

At that rate... if I install a fancy thousand ringgit membrane filter at POE, will I have to cough up for new membrane every year? Or will a reverse-flush type help me use it for longer before replacing?

Look at the size you already know the effectiveness. Most POE are larger.

For condo, it depends on the management do they allow you to install POE. If you want, you can install something like above

External filter is to remove sediments, most condo already have POE at the main water tank. If your water is still very dirty then you can install a smaller one at your water entry point.

For indoor water filter may be you can choose eSpring which with carbon/UV technology to meet NSF International Standards 42, 53, 55, 401 and Protocol P477. These various major quality standards are recognized worldwide for water quality. The eSpring Water System is certified to these 5 standards.

Standard 42 - Aesthetic effects

Tests the system’s ability to reduce drinking water contaminants that affect taste, odour and clarity
Standard 53 - Health effects

Tests systems’ ability to reduce hazardous contaminants
Standard 55 - Ultraviolet microbiological water treatment

Tests the ability of systems that use ultraviolet light to reduce bacteria and other micro-organisms in drinking water
Standard 401 - Emerging Contaminants Certification

Tests systems’ ability to remove 15 emerging contaminants from drinking water, such as drugs, herbicides, pesticides and other chemical compounds
Protocol P477 -Remove Microcystin

Tests systems for their ability to remove microcystin in water.

The eSpring Water System is also certified by NSF for reduction of more individual contaminants than any other carbon-based UV filtration system.

Independently tested, the eSpring Water System effectively reduces over 160 potential health-effect contaminants and with a UV dose of 40 mJ/cm2 is capable of destroying 99.9% of disease-causing microorganisms.

Why not change a new better one? Diamond outdoor filter cause a lot of trouble, i have few relatives & friends use before, the after sales service is worst.
