Currently no software or hardware unlock available. Only can replace the BB chip or factory unlock. Both quite expensive.

for me, cydia saved my SHSH start from 4.0 till 5.1 even when i'm still using older iOS,

so yes it should save it for me,

but, sometimes it missed the thing..

Open Cydia and check the top window. It will list the SHSH version that it has saved for that particular iPhone.

erm what i mean is where can i find the .shsh file so that i can create custom firmware with it

Use tinyumbrella(http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/). It will request SHSH blob from from Cyndia

Use tinyumbrella and in the advance tab tick on "Request SHSH from Cydia"

using latest Redsn0w, u can take SHSH from cydia to be stitched directly to the firmware, thus, will be easier for you to do so,

using tiny umbrella, u still need to set your SHSH save location, as the default one is actually would be in hidden folder in normal cicumstances,

i've tried but not successful. however it works with 5.1 firmware.

The thing must need on u laptop is...
1-itunes...
2-latest redsnow...
3-ios 5.0.1 and ios 5.1.1...
4-shsh saved for u device...
5-device...

If u got all of this,confirm success...
I do 3 ipad 2 and 2 iphone 4S by today after it release...

yours is mac or window? mine is window.
in my case, after i select IPSW 5.0.1, it does not prompt to select IPSW 5.1.1
