Apple just released ios 5.1.1
For those who want untethered jailbreak dont update!!
Not really much improvement on new firmware just fixed some bugs

Hi,

If I'm still on iOS 5.0.1, what should I do now? I connect to Itunes and its forcing me to update to 5.1.1, is there any other way to just upgrade 5.1 only?

Download the 5.1 firmware manually (links can be found in post #1) and try the Shift +Restore method. If apple is still signing the 5.1 firmware, then it should work.

Why do you want to upgrade anyway? You are on a firmware that can be jailbroken untethered (which is what everyone wants).

You are right about that. However, there is an imminent possibility that 5.1 can be JB, so while Apple still signs 5.1, we should quickly move to 5.1 first. I'm pretty fedup with 5.0.1 battery issues and invalid sim issue.

fix several bugs in the system, like airplay, appstore purchase, iPad networks switching, camera HDR , safari bookmarks sync, etc

not kind of fix that worth enough to lost your jailbreak.

not to mention that none of this bugs happen to me.. =b

That's the catch 22 situation we are in (4s) owner I mean. But based on musclenerd tweet, the exploit for 5.1 can still be used on 5.1.1 so I'm not losing my jailbreak. Not worth it. The battery issue can be handled with chargers in the office/home/car so I personally don't have any issues (not too much anyway).

Not necessarily. During the period when Apple is signing 5.0.1, If you open Cydia several times, then maybe it will try and save it. This is a hit & miss thing. That is why I usually do it manually with TU every time a new firmware is out.

The next version of redsn0w will allow for 4s/iPad 2 downgrade from 5.1 to 5.0.1 assuming you have SHSH saved. So finally they have found the way to do it. The more reason why you should always always save SHSH blobs.
