Hi.. I have question regarding food supplement.. I exercised 2 times per day. Lunch cardio and evening weight lifting.. 4 - 5times per week. Roughly 2-3 hours per day (total split session ).

Currently I do consume the following supplement
1. Whey protein
2. Extend scivation / assault muscle pharm
3. Fish oil
4. Multivitamin
5. Vit c
6. Evening primerose oil

I do watch my meal nutrient and eat clean mostly. Variety of salads and fruits. I believe I do balance my diet. I eat 6 - 8times per day.

Question:
1. Does any of above I can choose not to take. So far I took because thought they are good to take but I felt like they are too much and depleting my pocket.
2. Occasionally I feel something unusual on my knee. It is not painful. Just feel something not right. Dont know how to describe. I am very worry if I am going to have knee problem. Should I take glucosamine condratine as supplement? But I am only 27. Pls advice.

Thanks a lot

Not sure about others, but since u're taking a multivitamin, i dont think u need that vit.c, although they wont have any side effects unless u're taking a megadose of it, and btw, if u're taking evening primrose oil to improve endurance, pls do a research, recent studies shw tht they will nt help in athletic performance & endurance

Hi sick_baby,

How are you?

It's good that you have health conscious, by doing exercise, eating healthy, taking fruits and some supplements. WELL DONE!! ; )

However, do you know too much exercise ain't a good idea? Have you heard of oxidative stress?

Actually, the basic supplements to take per day should include
1. Antioxidants
2. Multiminerals
3. Fish Oils that contains DHA and EPA
4. Calciums
5. And the additional will depends on your body needs - eg. procosamine, ginkgo, etc

For your knee problem, probably that relates to your daily exercise which caused the injury? Probably you're lack of calcium? But procosamine would definitey helps you!! It doesn't matter on the age.

I have just turned to 28 this year. I play badmintons, and I am taking procosamine as well, as that helps to maintain long term health of joint and cartilage. (procosamine is a combination of turmeric extract with glucosamine hydrochloride, magnesium and vitamin C represents a more comprehensive approach to joint health)

Hope that helps!

Cheers,
Sylvia

I actually stop evening primrose oil when I started taking fish oil. Fish oil gave better benefits.

I would suggest you rotate the nutritional supplements because after 3 months, your body will build immunity and it will no longer work. Just change the brand and you should be fine.

As for your knee, I have similar pains that finally got fixed after better Yamuna Body Rolling. I've been doing it for years but only in Nov 2012, I started on Foot Wakers and rolling my IB band. The rolling of the IB band actually started at the hips and by doing it repeatedly, it loosen the IB band around my knees . So whatever knee pains I used to have, it's gotten a lot less and less.
http://www.yamunabodyrolling.com : Not sure where you can find classes in KL as I only know of teachers in Singapore and Kuching, Sarawak (the gym I goto). Other option is to order the kit online and get it sent over - comes with a DVD so just follow that.

As you're doing an eco-challenge, maybe you might also wanna learn about earthing ( http://www.earthing.com ). I don't use the products but I did make a stainless steel grounding mat and go for weekly earthing sessions at the beach - the seawater has a lot of minerals that you can soak up and it will neutralize any inflammation that you have. I usually end up with no DOMS pain, only the DOMS tightness after gym classes and gym work. Total is 8 hrs a week workout. What I believe is that since any nutrients or supplements is essentially minerals from nature, the largest abundance is either from the soil (so standing barefoot for a few hours help but mosquitoes killed that idea) or going to the sea (a lot of minerals and it worked on getting rid of pains).

Also, check out Kinesio Taping. I have had 2 gymmates who were tape at the local DBC center in Kuching for a climb up to KK. It helped to strengthen the knee and legs during the climb up and they could feel that it really really helped them. http://www.kinesiotaping.com/ I heard that there are a lot of cheap imitation so look for someone with experience to help.

Hope this helps and good luck with your eco-challenge.

Every time I look in the mirror it make me feel so hideous. Not like I want to be a body builder, I am more to a fitness need, target to look good at the end of the year, promise to meet someone. Hope someone willing to help me icon_question.gif

P.S: If me at the wrong section, please tell.

Me; 17 years old · Female · 53KG · 153+CM · Have a slight asthma

I want to lose weight and gain some abs. I know that I'm not really that fat but, well.. everyone dreams for a nice body. Hehe!
Plus, I want to dance. I'd been wanting to dance since I was 12, it's like.. DANCE is my passion, my life. I'm just so obsessed with it. I LOVE DANCE SO MUCH UNTIL I CANT EVEN DESCRIBE MY FEELINGS rclxub.gif

But the problem is..
I have a slight asthma + usually get tired really fast(I'm not good at sports, seldomly/rarely do sports. It's like uhm.. I could get really tired in 5 minutes of jogging).
Plus, I have SPM this year but it's okay. I think I can handle my schedule for everything smile.gif

I'd been thinking to lose 8KG then gain abs? Is that okay?
So, I really have no idea what should I do and where I should start?
Should I hit the gym, and lose weight first? And try to gain enough strength before attending a dance class? And as I stated above, I want to have some abs but not a really obvious ones.
What exercise should I do & eat?
Thanks biggrin.gif

hello jojoeljx,

1st of all, congratulation on your awareness to have a dream for a nice body!! thumbup.gif
a slight asthma shouldnt be a problem, start your healthy lifestyle NOW! Keep in mind that healthy body will eventually come with a nice body shape.

There is a few tips i can share with you:

1. Understand your body.

choose your exercise within your capabilities

Swimming/walking/jogging

Start with exercise with a minimum effort - build up your stamina and fitness first.
Depends on your body, but it may take a longer period of times for your body to adapt a new routine and make a note on your improvement for every each exercise for your own record

for an examples.
1st April - Walking XXKm (point a to point b) in 45 mins
3rd April - Walking XXKm (point a to point b) in 30 mins
--
--
29 April - Jogging...
you can see clearly your body will build up stamina and strength overtime.

2. Eating
for the start, eat less in quantity and more in frequencies, eat whatever you have dont change drastically
over a time subs your snacks with fruits/wholemeal based foods

3. Get enough sleep
after an exercise session your body needs to recover this is where supplements might help

4. set a goal and a period of time

consistency and motivation are the most thing you should not loose over a time. remember good thing doesnt happen overnight. And my asthma had gone forever!! hope you will get a really good benefits by changing to a healthy lifestyle.

Don't worry how much to lose or whether your abs are showing just yet. You'll have to start doing something first, like jogging, swimming, or any exercise that you like to do. The most important thing now is that you start training consistently, don't find any excuses to skip.

Regarding your asthma, I have a younger brother who also has asthma. Then one day he started to really workout and train himself in both strength and stamina. Now his asthma is practically non-existent. He's fitter and stronger than me now rclxub.gif

So, just start of slow. No need to rush into anything. biggrin.gif
