Sorry for not being clear enough. What they meant was 1.6k=cheap=not good...
But I'm over that now. Looking at laptops with Intel Processors. I heard Ivy Bridge runs at higher temperature than Sandy Bridge. Is that true? Heat is a very big concern to me. I'm currently looking at Dell Inspiron 14R SE and HP dv6 i7 7690m XT. I don't want a Asus N56 because I'm not really fond of it's design. Any better recommendation? 640M vs 7690MXT, is the difference really noticeable?

True but not entirely. IB runs slightly higher compared to SB.This is comparing relatively so no worries about the temperature
Both are good laptops but HP dv6 is abit older and there will be new dv6 laptops to be introduced.
Can try these 15":
Asus
N55Sl-S2064v, i5-2450M + Nvidia GT635M + (1600x900)@RM2899[Bang & Olufsen], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm)
N56Vz-S3088V, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT650M@RM2699[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 750GB, W7HP, subwoofer and backpack
Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M@RM2799, 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB,backlit keyboard optional
For your usage, an i3/i5 will be sufficient. As i7 will generate more heat and you're not going to be fully utilising it.
