Hi.. I need experts' suggestions... if there's such laptop available right now at my target price range in Malaysia's market:

1. Preferred Brand : No specific one
2. Budget : Up to RM7k
3. Usage : Multimedia editing, gaming, movies, occasional office work.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size : 15"/17" FHD
5. Preferred specifications : Core i7 3610QM, 16GB RAM, GTX660M, dual hard disk slot, Blu ray combo drive, at least 3 USB3.0 port, Ethernet + WiFi, low-profile design (I don't like gaming-centered design), back-lit keyboard, not too heavy (<3.5kg?), good strong build as I'll be traveling quite frequently.

well..i could finally buy inspiron 14r frm the store..i had to buy the normal version without backlit keyboard because the stores had very limited supply.
mine came with the gt630 1gb graphics and i upgraded the ram upto 8 gb

everything is amazing but the battery life is less than what i had expected..it comes around 4 to 4.5 hrs which is far far less than the 4830tg
4830tg had the same price tag of 1999RM but because of the older technology, i opted for this one..
any idea how i can increase the battery life?

For your specs, you'll have to customize your own from Illegear.
http://www.illegear.com/

NP9170 will be more suited for your specs and you can add any additional specs eg. 16GB RAM.

P.S. You can remove the brand Sager if you want low profile. But the weight I think it will be >3.5kg.

Are you heavy on gaming?
For lightweight, go for ultrabooks. But not very suitable for gaming.

Lenovo

You can try these for more of your usage:

Acer

Thanks.. I believe that model is too bulky to my liking and the weight is close to 4kg. I liked the design and weight of HP Envy 17" or HP Pavilion dv7 17" but both are not available from HP online store, or yet to be updated with latest specs. Looks like I'll wait first for product refresh.

hi guys,

been a while since i've been here. but here goes.

my dad need a new laptop. budget not a problem
but he wants something light but not small ( at least 14inch)
great warranty service (he's in terengganu/kelantan, so whatever works over there). SSD and latest gen processor would be great.

not for playign games, so Intel HD should be enough lol.

if u can then wait for y580....y580 is the only laptop for now that uses GTX 660M in ur price range... GTX 660M is excellent for a mid range gaming graphic card...i am using MSi GE60 with this graphic card and can run BF3 with max settings and 1080p... I can max all of the current game (COD, Sniper Elite, ME 3) available (havent tried max payne 3 yet)...

Actually GT540m = GT630m hmm.gif
Try to disable unused background files, that'll help reduce battery consumption.. 4-4.5 hours is quite standard, just about half an hour shorter than what the 4830Tg can achieve I think?

Fancy and awesome designed Asus N56? It'll fit you perfectly~ brows.gif
Asus N56ZM-S4079V, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920 x 1080) + BluRay@RM3599[Bang&Olufsen], 4GB, 1TB

Bargain abit and you will be able to get it for RM3.5k

otherwise, this one:
Lenovo Ideapad Y580, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GTX660M (2GB) + Bluray@RM3399[JBL], 8GB, 1TB HDD(7200rpm), W7HP

In terms of specifications, the Lenovo is better in terms of gaming performance, but the screen resolution is a bit of a let down

Similar as above, it all boils down to the Asus N56 or the Lenovo Y580 nod.gif
I guess your main priority is gaming, in which the Lenovo Y580 would be the better pick, just use the remaining money either for (i) warranty extension to 3 years on-site; (ii) get an external monitor for better viewing experience rclxms.gif

I guess CPU performance is more important for your usage.

If you don't mind installing Windows yourself, then this:
Lenovo Y480, i7-3610QM + Nvidia GT640(40nm Fermi)@2999[JBL], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), backlit keyboard *FreeDOS version is RM2.5k

Otherwise:
