Just test drove this new civic 2.0 with Navi.

I love the steering responsiveness, ride & handling and the front looks of the car. Overall it was ok and I don't mind about the interior except for the smaller cabin.

Those who wants to buy, apart from the 5 years unlimited warranty, they offered 2.35% loan interest from RHB bank for more than 80k loan. That's a great deal i guess.

C-segments compared, as models are split between all makes, it's kind of hard to make it an entirely fair comparison

Not a comprehensive list but compares the most talked about features used today. I've tried to make it as accurate as possible. Most of the good stuff only come in at the 120k+ price range.

Thanks for the table. Can you please add Ford Focus & Inspira as well? I assume that rain sensing wiper is the same as auto light sensor and engine push start is the same as smart entry. Boot size is another factor to consider as well.

Advantages to having a DOHC engine over a SOHC is that the engine has twice as many intake and exhaust valves as a SOHC engine. This makes the engine run cooler and more smoothly, quietly, and efficiently. But the downfall is that DOHC engines cost more for repairs.

DOHC engines also allows the spark plug to be placed right in the middle of the combustion chamber. This promotes efficient combustion. With SOHC, the camshaft is usually in the middle of the head because it has to drive both the intake and exhaust valves, robbing the sparkplug of it’s optimal location.

A SOHC 16 valve engine would have better torque on the low end where the DOHC valvetrain’s weight results in lower torque. But at high engine speeds, the 16 valve DOHC engine’s peak torque and horsepower would be greater.

Thanks for the comparison table. Very helpful to those who want to buy a new car.
From personal view, in overall Forte is the winner. Value for money.

Had a good look at the Civic today. I must say the interior is a real disappointment compared to the previous model. Really cheapo plastics especially on the dashboard and door panels. Some places on the doors are a little soft which is fine but the rest is all soo cheapo. If i hadnt known it was a Civic, i would have thought i was in an older generation Kia. The previous gen Civic had a touch of class and much higher quality standards for sure. In this new Civic, the interior and exterior have lost their class. Looks very normal. Also correct me if im wrong here but does the rear legroom seem a bit less compared to the previous model?

Not sure about the drivability of the car as i didnt get a chance to test drive, but i sure hope its much better than its design.

Theorythically yes, that's what they teach u in school
But in reality nowadays, not always like that, many advancement had re-written the guideline we used to be thaught

I had driven both 8th-gen civic1.8(SOHC) and 2.0(DOHC) and fuel efficiency is really noticable when using the 1.8 compared to 2.0 fuel-sucker

Went to see the car yesterday.. Here is what i feel. 1.8 interior looks weird... 2.0 interior color combination looks better. Dashboard wise looks futuristic. I like what they did to the space between driver n front passenger very good ergonomics.

but for an additional 5k (Navi) for GPS, Bluetooth & touch screen is a bit expensive furthermore adding the Navi spoils the looks of the dashboard as the unit doesn't fit the looks of the dashboard.

I think the civic new design looks much better in black..

here is what i feel. smile.gif

As for going back to SOHC.. i'm sure they have their reasons for it if not they will not make such move..just need to know what is the theory behind it

one word

emission...

the guidelines for emission in US and europe is getting stricter...
in order for the engine to qualify for those market... they need to comply...

true, ppl might say, retain the K20 for our market while producing the R-series for the europe/us market..
but how much K20 can our market consume to justify it?

Actually SOHC is less about emission and more about production cost. You can tune DOHC to get similar emission result as SOHC but this will increase the cost as more components are involved for DOHC compared to SOHC.
