it is because (maybe) they want to clear old stock. 3TB model that you saw maybe based on 750GB per platter technology, means the hard drive has 4 platter. right now they already has 3TB using 3 platter where 1 platter = 1GB.
check the serial number to know which model it is.

it is WD green. Did think to check the model or serial number. blush.gif
Was actually looking for Seagate 3TB.
Seagate 3TB must look for wat serial number?

i know that. i prefer n00b rather than blur laugh.gif last time i taught them how to read the serial. for example ST3500418AS, 500 is size, 1 is a number of platter. laugh.gif

conclusion, you need to look at the number by yourself. by looking at the thickness of the case, we can know whether it has 1,2,3 or 4 platter. for example, single platter drive only about 1/2 inch of its thickness. 2 platter, almost 1 inch, 3 platter ngam2 1 inch and so on.

not sure if external HDD discussion is okay here...

I am getting a new 1TB USB3.0 external HDD, already have a 320GB buffalo and a 750GB Hitachi.

Which brand is recommended? I am eying at this buffalo one, http://www.buffalo-asia.com/cgi-bin/produc...y&code=7&id=665 around RM355 if not mistaken. Not keen to WD products.

Is the above okay?

My HDD is okay now. I used HD Tune Pro to erase (zero fill) it, Current Pending Sector count back to 0.

recently RMA a over 1 year HDD by WD pick up service, highly recommend with the service provided from WD with just USD7.50, collect ur HDD at ur doorstep and returned within 7 biz days. far more better than asking Low Yat runner with RM30 and wait for a month smile.gif

will support WD more, (juz not the green series!!) tongue.gif

You don't have to get a laptop HDD from Lowyat. Any computer shop carrying 2.5" laptop HDDs should serve you just as fine.

You can browse a number of price lists on this page: http://www.hardwarezone.com.my/priceLists

Most notebooks including netbooks utilize a standard form factor of 2.5" format though there are other more unusual dimensions they are still extremely rare and most likely need to be special ordered. There are no special HDD for Acer notebooks, it uses the same 2.5" same goes with SSD.
