QUOTE(everling @ May 4 2012, 12:32 PM) Because Samsung wasn't making enough profits from its HDD division so it decided to pull out of the market. I guess ppl were thinking "samsung? since when they make hard disk? better get WD/Seagate" -___-!Actually even I would have got a caviar blue last year if I didnt look thru benchmarks and also this LYN thread where everyone was recommending the legendary HD103SJ Added on May 5, 2012, 9:26 am QUOTE(coklatua @ May 4 2012, 09:46 AM) But this thick sound is quiet loud. hmm, at least still got warranty right? see what those seagate guys can doNope. QUOTE(coklatua @ May 4 2012, 09:46 AM) Nope. My hdd is samsung SPF3. If you are still able to make backups, please do before sending the HDD for RMA. They have a tendency to give you a replacement HDD (check the serial numbers) instead of fixing your HDD. If you don't have backups, your data will also be lost.Seriously, dont know the reason why is dying. But I will send it to RMA. QUOTE(boon.fong @ May 4 2012, 03:48 PM) Hi all, may I know what is the recommended HDD nowsaday since samsung hdd is out of business. I am looking for good performance HDD around 1 -- 2 TB. There are no remarkable HDDs at this time, other than perhaps the warranties. WD currently offers a longer warranty period than Seagate, so it would be advisable to go WD. As for choosing between Black, Blue and Green, if you only need it for data storage, I would recommend the Green. They can perform adequately well for most purposes. This post has been edited by everling: May 5 2012, 12:40 PM |

Many people don't realize this. I was studying the effects of temperature on hard disk. Many people seem to worry about cooling down their processors and graphics card but not hard disks.
QUOTE , increasing HDD temperature by 5C has the same effect on reliability as switching from 10% to 100% HDD workload. Each one-degree drop of HDD temperature is equivalent to a 10% increase of HDD service life. Hard disks should be cooled and their ideal temperature should be around anywhere from 35C to 38C (at most it should be 40C). Now anything above that is dangerous. Hard disks max temperature are generally 50C. You don't want to go anywhere above 42C , its just simply asking for trouble. Its very important to cool down your hard disk. Take a look at temperature Oh yeah you may want to read this article , the author explains it very well http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2006/12/h...-be-afraid.html This post has been edited by prasys: May 5 2012, 09:54 PM |

Its true about the temperature, I had many hard disk died on me in the past due to overheat, no fan at the front, temp always rise to 50c
However, even with a HAF 932 casing, right now I'm finding it really hard to maintain at 40c or lower. Most of the time its average at 43c-45c on a hot evening even with fan blowing. This post has been edited by Hornet: May 5 2012, 10:28 PM |

QUOTE(sI Taufu @ May 5 2012, 11:06 PM) Depends how the hard disks are placed , if they are on top of each other , probably thats the reason and that is common as well , my OS disk will be slightly cooler compared to my idle disk |
