Thanks!
I also notice the 1TB is no more in the range of RM330!
Most are under RM300.

Thanks. With the current drop rate I will get it pretty soon. I just hope that the current slow but steady downward momentum stays. I can wait three months.

What slow detecting problem? I have a WD20EARX and a pair of WD10EADS and I don't have a problem with them.

I feel something fishy there......
There were once a period when the HDD failure rate hike up and few companies reduce the warranty period, around 2003 if no mistaken.

better upgrade your seagate 500GB to seagate 1TB. make sure it is single platter. major improvement on read/write speed since size increase with sector become small on the same platter size

It was around 2008-2009 and it was Seagate. The notorious firmware issue on certains models... there's a big thread about it somewhere in here.
Back then they were kings due to the 5 Year Warranty.

More sensitive to vibration and shock i must said.
As common sense, the more sensitive a machinery, the more fragile they are. laugh.gif

it is not because of "bigger size". it is because of the sector on a platter become more smaller. access time will become short. thats why it has improvement in r/w speed, i think.

Thank you for your advice. What are the recommended brand for 2TB HDD nowadays since Samsung HDD division is acquired by Seagate?
Its been a long time since I keep up with the IT news, it used to be that Samsung was the brand to go when they had the 1TB back then.

I'm in the same boat as you.
Currently I'm hoping Seagate will actually incorporate all the best of Samsung tech into their HDD but I have not yet got any firm confirmation on this.
Very scare to purchase from Seagate yet after their last fiasco.
