Had 2 of my WD red 4TBs fail on me within a week. Only about 2 years old but i lost the receipt cry.gif

any shops in lowyat selling 4TB HGST drives? They are supposed to be way more reliable.

Seagate is about RM50 cheaper than WD, but im scared that they may not be reliable. Have 2 2TB seagates in my server still running well but the internet is full of people saying that seagate sucks.

Losing receipts is ok, u can check serial number on WD website to see warranty is still valid.

The HDDs just died like that? No bad sectors forming beforehand?

As far as I can tell. One HDD failed (cant detect at BIOS), and a week later the 2nd one failed SMART Error 0. Not sure whats going on. Could be a bad batch since they're a matched pair.

The come from a WD My Book duo. I extracted them and put them into my home server. Unfortunately since its usualyl remote access and the HDD smart errors are only reported at bootup, I only realised the first HDD was down sometime later. So don't know the gap between the 2 HDD failures, could have been more than a week.

Should this be something I should worry about? Weeks back appear at my external 1 TB drive. But the count did not increase. smile.gif

If the data is important, make sure regular backups
If reallocated sector count remains steady, no need to worry too much. But i would start monitoring it frequently. Sometimes these bad sectors spread like viruses.

Time to maybe search for a new harddisk then for backup.

Lost touch with the hard disk prices already, how about a 1TB internal price and external 1 TB? confused.gif

I saw jayacom selling for RM 190 for 500gb and that exclude labour cost for installing the hard disk? I have not call to clarify with them.

One additional q, is it important bout which brand of hard disk? I am still doing my own research to understand how to pick which hard disk.

Thanks

Or is it a laptop?
