QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Sep 10 2015, 06:27 PM) i also had an issue myself. mind asking what model is ur NAS? i get warning in my nas, but after pulling out hdd and running all the tests, then pop back in rebuild raid, run block scan, long extended smart scan, file system check, no problem. but showed warning. so i consulted with IT support and apparently it's a bug :} so will be fixed in new firmware next month. some of these hdds issues, not necessarily yours, but like in raid configuration like mine, sometimes the problem could be a buggy firmware that reports incorrectly thats y i rely on these other extra software to check the hdds health when in doubt. |

plz show the SMART test result. unfortunately all disk go bad eventually, nothing can do except backup while still can and change new one. even if you full erase it the bad sector will still be there just hidden and not usable by OS.

Hi guys,
I'm planning to get a NAS, Synology 415+, mainly use for download and stream movies to TV. Please advice where can I get the best price for WD Red 4TB, 5TB, and 6TB. Or should I wait for Black Friday? Thanks! |

is it still detectable in windows? then try check SMART status using Crystaldiskinfo / HDD Guardian.
can also try WD test: (usable on other drives, not only WD) http://support.wdc.com/KnowledgeBase/answer.aspx?ID=940 |

Which software to use to scan and fix bad sector ? and whcih software shows out log on which file are affected with bad sector without fixing it ? so I confirm whether to skipped the fix. I dont think can pause halfway..What do u mean by scan disk that you're using?
Bad sector cannot be fixed, even logical ones, it can only be 'quarantined' and hidden so that the OS/programs dont run into them and use them. The bad sector count could also increase or worsen rendering the disk unusable. If there is data on the disk that you cannot lose I suggest backing it up first before fixing bad sector as data can be corrupted or lost. Scan time does usually take a long time the larger the disk. if the disk is still usable you can use cmd: chkdsk C: /f /r /x, it will restart then scan and locate/fix bad sectors. I've also used DRevitalize v1.20 to fix a disk that cant boot into Windows. You can also try Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools. Just backup your data before trying all this. |

I wanted to identified which file is corrupted so I can confirm whether I wanted to recover it without worsen the bad sector count. Eg , if the file MS template.docx label as bad sector which I can find at templates.office.com , I dont think I need to recover it , ahead to just redownload them.Same as media files. I mean pause half way , like if sector 1-1000 was scan , I wanted to stop it and continue tomorrow back from 1000-2000 Which software can do that ? At the current situation , it's impossible to on the pc for days to scan for bad sector.Working hours 8-6pm max is 9-10 hours allow for turning on the pc. 1. A special Scan function with pause and resume tomorrow without causing the bad sector count increase. 2. Scan and view files name are affected and label as corrupted but do not attempt to fix yet. It's like scan only on antivirus but fixing will be decided manually by user or automatically by antivirus later on. Western Digital Data Lifeguard Tools doesn't allow to pause. |

hie guys, which is a better option to buy? Assuming both is same price and my use doesn't really matter for internal hdd or external, as long have usb3.0
4TB - mybook essentials or 4TB - WD Blue + usb3.0 3.5" probox enclosure which currently already have General usage = video and photos storage / occasional playback(at least 4 times a week) Connection will be via USB3.0 on my macbook, thru a belkin wall powered usb3.0 hub. |

Hi guys, hope i ask in the right section
My question is which external hard dick is best for use on smart tv? FYI, i am referring to watching downloaded movies/videos on my samsung smart tv. I have to external hard disk that is WD element 1TB, and buffalo PNTU3 1TB. based on my experience, WD element tend to be a bit slow and the video played on the tv seems to be "buffering". Compare to buffalo on the other hand all smooth sailing with no buffering whatsoever. I went to pc depot to look for buffalo external hard disk and they went out of stock. The only option they have is WD element, passport ultra and seagate backup plus. Can anyone share experience which external hard disk perform best on smart tv? Thanks. |
