There is no way to fix this. Vacums produce a huge amount of electrostatic waves. When you put it near a sensitive electronic hardware, the hardware is going to get damaged. I suggest for you to backup your files asap and if your drive is still under warranty, send it for RMA. If it is not, well its time to get a new one.

Hi guys,

I got a problem here. Last 3 days, my laptop had been infected with virus. In order to me to get the data back, I went to buy SSD for my laptop and the original HDD I take out and I put in a HDD enclosure. The problem here is my laptop cant detect the HDD. I open disk management and saw the HDD is there but i cant open it.

So, whats the problem with my HDD? Can u guys help me.

Thanks in advance.
*
In Disk Management, right click on the drive and select "Change Drive Letter" or "Assign Drive Letter" . Choose a Drive Letter ( D , E , F etc) and your computer should detect the HDD.

Okay my cousin just drop by my house and left a Buffalo Hard Drive at my home.
Due to my itchy hands I pick it up and snap 2 photos with it.
But with the real statement is Is USB 3.0 capable of really brings out 5Gbps?
Ops, forgotten take the photo at the back brb.
*
USB 3.0 is indeed specced for 5Gbps raw transfers. This translates to 625 megabyte/s of raw data transfers, including protocol overheads.

HDDs however will be limited to how fast they can read/write data from/to their platters, which may be around 150 MB/s for performance HDDs. SATA 6.0 Gbps SSDs will be able to more fully utilise the USB 3.0's bandwidth.

I'm not sure what is going on. It could be a faulty HDD enclosure.

Try putting your HDD back into your laptop and see if it will boot or not. It is possible to remove most virus infections, although it is still recommended to reformat the HDD, in case it left behind a rootkit or opened security holes. If your HDD works when back in the laptop, I'd suggest trying to use a desktop instead, just be careful in ensuring your infected HDD does not boot so it doesn't infect any other storage device in the desktop.

If you are lucky, it will be temporary. But it seems more probable that you are not. You should make preparations, backing up important data and budgeting for replacement hardware.

Compressed air is the standard recommendation.

Personally, I use a brush and then take my time reassembling my desktop. I do not know how risky is this, but it seems to have worked out well enough for me.

If you are going to clean your computer, I would recommend to dissemble every component. Then wipe the inner casing properly until you're satisfied. Do not wipe it harshly as you might be creating electrostatic discharges. Be sure to touch something metal (metal table / pole etc) before you touch your computer parts again. Then you can clean your computer parts with an anti static cloth and you're good to go.

Will take later. On disk management, it show that my HDD is dynamic while the other one that I have show basic. Is this correct? When I want to change it back to basic, it say that it will erase all the data in my HDD.

I assume this means my HDD is dying, even SeaTools SDT returns "FAILED"... Weirdly SMART gives a solid green pass wacko.gif

Kinda disappointed with Samsung, yea it's fast and cheap and all but no where near as reliable as few of the WDs which have been running in my other PCs at least 6000hrs longer than this Samsung.

It just depends on luck, some of my friends has problem with even the WDC Black series so it's not just Samsung problem when there's hardware failure.
You could use low level format and let it runs overnight (it could take very long) and see hows the SMART reading, of course backup the data before doing that.
What you should really look at is "Reallocated Sector Count" which the hard disk has detect a malfunction sector and decide to replace it with temporary sector, it also means permanent bad sector, if this increase rapidly, send for RMA.

Has anyone had any experience with the Hitachi XL series? The price for a 2TB seems cheaper than WD/SG ones so it's kinda weird.
*
Really how much for the Hitachi XL2000 now?
I have Hitachi XL1000, I find it very good for back up purpose.
Sometime we choose the Hard-disk depend of luck.

Thank !

Thanks for the advice, I've actually ran HDD Regenerator for a few passes and around ~1000 sectors were "unreadable" or something like. At least right now there's a non-critical but big file taking up the affected area, hopefully there won't be any serious data corruption until I get a replacement drive for backup.

Most of their money comes from selling to manufacturers like Dell, HP, Apple, etc. The retail market isn't necessary for their survival or profit.
