I assume this means my HDD is dying, even SeaTools SDT returns "FAILED"... Weirdly SMART gives a solid green pass wacko.gif

Kinda disappointed with Samsung, yea it's fast and cheap and all but no where near as reliable as few of the WDs which have been running in my other PCs at least 6000hrs longer than this Samsung.

It just depends on luck, some of my friends has problem with even the WDC Black series so it's not just Samsung problem when there's hardware failure.
You could use low level format and let it runs overnight (it could take very long) and see hows the SMART reading, of course backup the data before doing that.
What you should really look at is "Reallocated Sector Count" which the hard disk has detect a malfunction sector and decide to replace it with temporary sector, it also means permanent bad sector, if this increase rapidly, send for RMA.

Thanks for the advice, I've actually ran HDD Regenerator for a few passes and around ~1000 sectors were "unreadable" or something like. At least right now there's a non-critical but big file taking up the affected area, hopefully there won't be any serious data corruption until I get a replacement drive for backup.

Just bought a 1TB Toshiba Canvio Plus for RM249 on Sunday, did not experience cable issues like those on Amazon or maybe because I place it on a stable desk laugh.gif

Transfer rate peaks at 110MB/s and averages ~100MB/s with USB3.0, pretty good imo for a portable drive and way faster than my old desktop WD Green.
