The LA-EA1 will have AF with SAM/SSM lenses.

The LA-EA2 will have AF with SAM/SSM and screw-drive lenses.

Both allow you to set the aperture from the camera body.

Both allow you to frame the subject with the lens wide open although you may have set the aperture to F11. It will only stop down when you take the picture. (This is different from a third-party lens, where you have to manually turn the aperture ring before you take the picture.)

If it doesn't say SAM, SSM, USD, PZD or HSM anywhere on the lens, it is screw-drive.

Picture quality is the same, and it can focus to infinity.

The LA-EA2 has a translucent mirror so you lose about 1/3rd of a stop of light - going from say 1/60s to 1/50s, or 1/10s to 1/8s.

Unless the lens is a Sony E-mount with Optical SteadyShot, Tamron VC or Sigma OS, it will not be stabilized!

Wow, short and precise. Great information, thanks albnok!

I'm using LA-EA2 with SAL35F18 myself thanks to your previous feedback.

One thing I don't understand though, why do one needs to set the aperture down to F11? Is it a LA-EA2 limitation which obviously I'm not aware of?

Well, for the price for the X 1 pro, I could get the same setup with nex 7 and the zeiss. So, no TQ for X1pro.

OM-D should be interesting, I am waiting for a credible review for this piece.

G3,V1 and others, sensor size already lose out, unlikely to surpass the quality of the nex, sad to say.

G1x from Canon however, could be a competitor if the price is not too pricey.

Not being biased, but for the price of the range of Nex 5n, it's technically the best in terms of value for money and performance.

Of course, people can argue that the X1pro might be better but.......

Good point.

If only I am not funding for a Red dot, the X1pro might tempt me as well.

Albnok was just giving an example of the Live View not showing real-time DoF compensation. Notice with E-Mount lenses, when you stop down the aperture, DoF on the LCD/EVF increases. However, with the LA-EA2 attached, and while using A-mount lenses, this does not happen.

So in other words, you will need some grasp on how stopping down Aperture affects the DoF, because you will not see it in real-time. What you see on the LCD is always the widest aperture.

Already got a Nex 5n as a casual camera, should be able to last till Nex 9 or whatever comes.

OIC, got it. Haha, looks like my english comprehension is not that good. Thanks for explaining.

Yes, I only know this when I notice the additional "shutter sound like" when I set aperture other than F1.8. Wonder why it is so. I assume its for easier auto focusing. I'm very new to all this.

Red dot = leica.

I'm still juggling between NEX 7 and E-M5. Money not a huge issue but...

1. sensor size (7)
2. lens size (m5)
3. lens selection (m5)
4. DR (7)
5. mpix (m5, prefer 16mpix max) but cropability (7)
6. IBIS (m5)
7. weather seal (m5)

either NEX 7 + sel1855 + sel50f18 or E-M5 + oly 12-50 weathersealed + oly 45 f1.8. hmmmmm

When I saw ur Pan cake + Adapter... I already very excited ade.... But it is not an easy find rite?

Can PM me how much is the remote control? I need it fast....  Thanks...

I assume this was directed at me laugh.gif On the contrary, the 50/1.7 Haxanons are not quite as hard to find as Konica made a lot of them, the only question is how much. Some people charge a premium since they know it's good, I manged to get mine for a reasonable price I think...

As for the remote, maybe RM5 excluding postage tongue.gif

If me, I would get the 7 and pair it with 24Z as my walkaround lens. i think I am happy with this combo since I am spoilt with primes lately..

Or get Nex 7, get adapters and you can mount anything as well....
