Guys, I have a 16GB Pendrive class 10 SDHC which performs noticeably slower than the free Sony 8GB class 4 SDHC on my Nex-5N.

Because of that, I assume Pendrive is a lousy brand.

I'm planning to get a new 16GB or 32GB SD card. Sony is expensive, which brand would you all recommend?

Grab a Sandisk Extreme HD. 8GB sells for RM99, and its plenty fast for video and playback. Don't bother with the UHS-1 cards; the 5N is not compatible.
Sandisk Extreme HD it is. Thanks guys for your recommendation.

Check out this DigitalRev video about using UV filter or not: http://youtu.be/-e9TUIC-Dtk

Looks like UV filter only functions as lens protection in a DIGITAL camera.

So I think no need for expensive multi coat or super coat, as long as it is good branded and will not make your picture quality much worst will do, right?

Hoya filter for only RM70, real or fake? Does it lower your image quality much? http://shashinki.com/shop/hoya-digital-mul...9mm-p-8984.html

No problems with customs. It is a hit and miss most of the time.  I know they will normally ship it out at their cost price for customs and insurance purpose.  Got it via ebay - supplier from HK.  Cant remember exactly how much now.  ~US$350/- . I try not to remember as I'll get heartache if I see it selling cheaper one day!  doh.gif  Right now I can see one going for US$530/- .

All cameras and camera accessories are 0% tax in Malaysia. Even if customs holds your purchase, just go and pick it up, no charge at all.

Maybe we can gather a few people and buy in bulk, perhaps can get cheaper biggrin.gif Another viable option would be Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III VC (I actually prefer this) which was announced/launched not long ago, it even comes in sexy black drool.gif
http://www.tamron.co.jp/en/lineup/b011/index.html

Local distro for Tamron already has it, price is still high atm but should drop after 3-4 months... Hopefully tongue.gif

drool.gif Its smaller too!!! 62mm vs Sony's 67mm. Very very tempted, especially the black one. Will match my 5N perfectly! drool.gif

Yes yes, can get a quote for bulk purchases??

Tamron B011 at the moment have issues with the sweep panorama feature. Better to hold your purchase until there is an official Fix or some announcement.
*
What kind of issue? Wonder how they gonna fix it other than totally changing the design.

Love that its black in color and size does not add too much bulk. Can totally see myself using this as my general use lens. Can consider selling my kit lens after getting this lens brows.gif

Hopefully the price comes down soon, and the problem mentioned by nlik dissappeared. rclxms.gif

I use iMovie, but only record using 25p format. iMovie can't handle 50p or 60p AVCHD.

anyone here can answer me about the Nex-5N click sound issue? thanks~!
*
I bought mine about 4 days before CNY, click sound is still there.

I only know its there when I purposely shake it. Until now, with my normal usage, photo and video shooting, never hear the click sound at all.

Guys, if im not going to buy any additional lens, as in just using the Nex5N without upgrading the lens or watever, do you think its okay with it or i might as well get other non changeble lens compact?
*
Even if you don't invest in additional lenses, you can still get the 5N, as the picture quality will be much better than any point and shoot compact.

I'm really considering to invest in LA-EA2 + SAL1650 to go with my 5N.

Anyone think that this is not a good idea please voice out before I burn a big hole in my wallet! tongue.gif

Why this setup because I take a lot of pictures of my 2 year old kid, indoor, so I really need faster focusing and faster lens.

the SAL 1650 is not sold as a separate lens yet currently.. it is bonded to an a77 body.. so if you somehow managed to get the lens on its own there will be no proper warranty from Sony Malaysia..
*
That's the problem. Sigh. I'm thinking of ordering from B&H online. Still considering whether to take the risk or not.

Another option is to get the SAL2875, but its a SAM lens, don't know if there will be focusing sound during video. I also take quite a lot of videos with my 5n.

LA-EA2 is HUGE!!! Totally took away the point of having a nex system... you probably better off with A77 & SAL1650 combo... Also LA-EA2 is not that cheap too... unless you have a CZ or G lens lying around, then yes, LA-EA2 seems like a good idea...
*
Yes LA-EA2 is huge, and it's even larger when SAL1650 is attached. Just look at the last picture from the dpreview forum link I posted earlier.

But that's the advantage of NEX system, I can go big or small depending on situation. Can't do that with A77.

SAL1650 is probably just a bundle kit lens to A77 as what zstan said..Normally ppl dun go for kit lens wan wor...Furthermore not much diff from the 18-55 NEX kit lens kua??

Go-lah for the Bokehlicious 50mmF1.8 better kua esp u said wanna take your 2 yr old son, fast & faster focusing..NEX got this bokehlicious liao
*
SAL1650 has a very good review online, they said it actually has a quality level of Sony G lens, but because it's not built for their FF dslt, they didn't brand it as G lens.

I've never use a prime lens. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of not having the flexibility of adjustable focal length during composition. I also like F1.8. If only Sony has fast F1.8 zoom lens tongue.gif it will be damn expensive also.

the current 18-55 can't serve you well? or you need the constant f2.8?
P
have you tried it on your hands before? or the LA-EA1 for that matter...i find it quite okay in my hands...
*
Actually, first of all i want the PDAF from LA-EA2, my kid is always moving around, find it a bit difficult to get a focus quick enough with the current CDAF to capture the moment.

Which means now I need an A-mount lens.

And since my kid is always moving around, having a constant f2.8 would be an advantage indoor with low light where I can choose a faster shutter speed to avoid blurry image from my kid's movement.

Also I would prefer SSM worrying that SAM will have focusing sound during video shooting. I also take a a lot of videos of my kid.

No, I have not try it myself. Good to hear another good feedback from you. Many review I've read said it doesn't feel as big as it looks online.

whateva2k: The 35mm F1.8 is a very flexible focal length - if you've tried it, you'd realize it works well as it's right in the middle. Same goes for the Zeiss 24mm F1.8 E-mount - it gives 36mm on APS-C, which is the same as your camera phone's angle of view.
*
Yes, I agree. I was considering to get the 35mm F1.8 first, buy worry that this lens will become redundant if I would to get SAL1650. Maybe I should just get this and forget about the fast zoom.

Well the 35mm f1.8 SAM is not known for its fast AF speed. You might want to test both lenses out first on a DSLT to get the feel of it and see whether the lens suit your needs or not.
*
Bummer. Back to square one...

This is my first ILC, so I've never bought any lens before. Anyone can recommend any outlet which has a lot of Sony lenses on display which I can test? Sony concept store will be my best bet I guess.

Maybe it's the cable or the connection. Are you using the original cable provide with your camera? From your description of your error, it sounded more like a connection problem.

I will be upgrading mine tonight. My battery is charging now...
