I feel like most of Nex users using MF lens over here, will it a good choice  for it?

Well, it's up to ones preference, some ppl like the AF convenient.
*
Agreed lor. biggrin.gif because there isn't a large choice for AF lens for the NEX system atm (got also manyak expensive tongue.gif) so why not just go for manual lens? Very affordable with stunning results!

Seems like there is a high demand for the 28mm f/2.8 rokkors. Lost the bid twice d. T__T

I think the 24mm has a better reputation... but more expensive!
Wanted to bid for the 28mm also but decided against it coz wanna save $$$ for other accessories.

Yup yup.. actually its not very expensive at all! its around £50 on ebay UK. thought of trying for the Kiron 28mm f/2 but seems like there's always a problem with oil in the aperture blades. Would go for it if cleaning the aperture blades isn't so tedious. On a brighter note, managed to get the 35-70, 70-210 and 50mm f/1.7 for a mere £41! rclxms.gif

Mind to share what you planning to get? tongue.gif hehehe

Other than what Lina said which I agreed 100%, what AF can't do is the retro feeling of turning/twisting the aperture ring or pulling the the zoom level for telephoto lens haha...

Hi, I am very new to photo shooting, and just bought a new NEX 5 twin lens. What type of adaptor is recommended that support most of the "non-NEX" lens? Or which is the popular/must-have adaptor for NEX?

I am interested to try out other non-NEX lens.

Since you are a newbie, I suggest you to stick to the kit lenses and master them before you explore other lenses.

Actually I have some A-mount lenses that are push-pull. biggrin.gif Not Minoltas/Sonys though, but there are super telephoto zooms from Sigma and Tamron that have both a zoom ring and the ability to push-pull (it is smooth enough to believe it is intentional.)

Depends which Minolta mount you are going for. There's the MC/MD and there's the AF, which is the same as the Sony A-Mount. Both need adapters, just be wary of the mounts! Nearly bought the wrong one last time hahah!

Usually the lens name already gives it out. Minolta MC/MD lenses usually are called Rokkors e.g. Minolta MD Rokkor-X 45mm f/2, Minolta MD Tele-Rokkor 135mm f/2.8, Minolta MC Rokkor 58mm f/1.4, etc. So you need to use a MD-NEX adapter.

If you see Minolta AF on the lens, then its the A-Mount. This one can use LA-EA1, LA-EA2 or third party adapter. I have one for sale if you're interested. tongue.gif

I am not sure if this is slow, but do you guys try to use the camera without the lens properly attached to the camera?

I just found out that if the 16mm pancake lens being detached from the camera and alight in between the object and camera, it can focus on very near object and the result is quite nice (at least to me) compare to the normal setup.

Some sample output here: http://jdx7071.blogspot.com/2012/04/nex-5-...ject-using.html

Please comment.

I'm thinking that when he's holding the lens that way (lens senget), only the pins are in contact with the body? basically its like an 'invisible' extension tube lor. tongue.gif the results are okay la but the distortion kuat lihai blink.gif will give this a try! very interesting! thanks for sharing! rclxms.gif

The pins is not connected, the lens is totally detached from the camera, the autofocus is not functioning, the focus is done by adjusting the distance between the lens and the camera.

but then i dont think you can move the lens too far away from the camera without some sort of tube.. too much light will hit the sensor. tried it out d, not very safe to unscrew the lens while the camera is on XD
