I bought an original Samsung Galaxy Note...

I had bought this phone as at first I thought the 1.4Ghz processor would be much more superior to the Samsung Galaxy S2 19100 model..

Indeed, not much difference..

My question is that when I immediately bought the Note, I put in a 4.2 Gb 720p AC3 mkv blue ray video...
No doubt that the playback is wonderful..
But then when you try to fastforward, the Note just crash..
It hangs and then I have to press the home button..
I was not satisfied and I keep on trying and trying for 6 more times..
In all times it still crashes the stock video player...

Does anybody else face this problem?

Guys,

How to update the firmware version to 2.3.6? i'm using stock rom. Tried checking new updates from SGN settings but it say no updates available..so need to update through kies air?

Thanks
You have to use USB connection. Using Kies Air via Wi-Fi is not allowed for updating firmware.

QUOTE(entaro @ Jan 5 2012, 11:24 AM)
Ok guys, I confirm a bug, at least on my Note... maybe it's a firmware bug...if you set your phone to GSM only (means you are on EDGE).. you will get out of service error when calling and receiving call.. Maybe you guys can help to test out...

Go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Mode... Set it to GSM only.. then try calling... see if you can make successsful connection... I'm on stock ROM with Maxis line...
I'm currently using GSM only on my Note. I can receive and make calls with no problems on Maxis line.

May I ask which area are you located? Once around Ampang road I had this problem of not able to make and receive calls even though I restarted the phone. Perhaps something to do with the availability of network in that area?

QUOTE(entaro @ Jan 5 2012, 11:24 AM)
Don't use stock video player... I'm surprised it can play the mkv file... btw, are you sure you can copy it to your SD card.... it has to be less than 4GB file becasue of FAT32 restriction...

if you want... try MX or Dice player..
I've been using stock player to watch 720p files. Not 2 hour length ones but 1 hour TV series. I forward backwards and quite a bit and out of 10 times I do it, 1 time it will hang. I think I also face this problem when I playback mkv files on my quad core HTPC although less often. Something like once out of 50 times.

QUOTE(Positron @ Jan 5 2012, 11:49 AM)
Really??
My S2 also can play 1080p blue ray movies..
I have no complains about the playback, it's buttery smooth..

Only the fast forwarding part is a problem..
But what I noticed, not sure whether it's the processors limitations or the hardware's limitations..
Anything below 4Gb can fast forward even though its 1080p blue ray...

But above 4Gb, it seems to be unable to fast forward...
The same story goes with the Galaxy S2..

I am now waiting for the S3, hopefully Samsung will do something about it..

With 4GB file, you're testing the limits of the not so efficient FAT32 file system which is still being used by S2 / Note.

QUOTE(cwtien @ Jan 5 2012, 12:41 PM)
Confirmed that, was around in V2 or V3 of this thread.  Just switch to Auto (GSM/WCDMA). GSM connectivity is terrible.
I think it depends on where you are located.

How do you check the flash counter?
*
Switch off phone. Boot to download mode - vol down+home+power
Select volu p . You will see at the top Custom binary download = 0
If figure more than "0" shows number of flashes you have made on phone

Flash using Mobile Odin Lite with KernelFlash N7000,
Upload 2.3.6 into partition & Flashing the firmware, checking sum...restart & stuck at boot screen now....what happen? get bricked? or have to wait for how long?
*
What rom were you flashing ? And what kernel did you choose
Normally it would take 5-10 mins maximum to flash a new rom
If you are stuck, switch off phone. Reboot back to recovery mode ( vol up+power+home) , select clear data and choose reboot
If still cannot means you have soft brick
Switch off phone , boot to download mode. Connect to PC and use odin to flash back stock rom - just select tar file as PDA will do

The Chainfire file matching to your kernel : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784

the problem is all KL* firmware if you run the bat file, most users has reported cannot successfully have it root and CWM installed. My method overcome this
*
hi, Benny, can you post your method once again? I tried search your previous posts but can't seems to find it. sweat.gif

Currently my Note is with stock 2.3.5 rom, rooted but NOT installed with CWM. If i want to update to 2.3.6 stock rom and still get the ROOT (CWM not essential) without increase the flash counter, what is the best way to do it?

I have just finish download the Stock 2.3.6 from Sammobile.com. And already bought Mobile Odin Pro from Market. Any other files/tools that i need?

Many thanks. smile.gif

Launch mobile odin
Select OPEN FILE - and browse and choose the stock 2.3.6 firmware tar file
You will see a listing of all the files selected : kernel, system, data, modem etc etc
Replace the kernel file with the CWM extracted tar file ( MUST be in tar format )
Select flash firmware
this method will not increase counter

Did the same thing as you have done.
Flash it back to KK1 using Windows ODIN , root it, then use mobile Odin to flash to KL3.

Everything is good smile.gif

sure note.

if ipad3 got retina then u can consider.

ipad2 dun have much advantage even with bigger screen , coz the resolution lower than note.

and note's size is just perfect to its resolution. can read fullpage ebook without prob. no zoom needed.

is it any better than Rocket v12?

one question. Is anybody facing force close issues on Rocket v12? There's a few force closes and the browser doesnt seem so stable

thanks a million - short and precise.

But just to be safe - the kernel file in step 3 is the one at CF-Root XDA thread - CF-Root-SGN_XX_ODD_KL3-v5.0-CWM5.zip, correct?

thanks again. thumbup.gif

EDIT: Found a zImage file inside the CF-Root-SGN_XX_ODD_KL3-v5.0-CWM5.zip - is this the tar file you mentioned? it has no file extension. sweat.gif
