The exp1 doesn't have that "look at me" wrist presence which is sorta like its appeal as well I think.

QUOTE(yonggoh @ Sep 13 2012, 09:01 AM) Hey buddy non offence taken... i enjoy peoples different perceptions of the Rolex brand...a very love or hate thing as everyone has grown up knowing about Rolex When thinking mystique of the Rolex brand the Daytona instantly comes to mind... Its been documented all over the net... the old zenith movement.... the paul newman connection... the waiting lists and obscene prices... the asian obsession with the black dial versions... http://reviews.ebay.com/Rolex-Daytona-Hist...000000011187812 QUOTE(sniper on the roof @ Sep 13 2012, 10:15 AM) There's always the forgotten understated side of Rolex I did consider a Rolex Explorer I or Deepsea. But as I studied Rolex Cal 3000, 3130 and 3135 movement and the price offered for these watches, I was put off into getting one. Take out the brand Rolex out of the equation and I don't consider the movement special. Anyway, Cal 4130 is one of the better movements in the current product range. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I ask myself, why should I get a Rolex other than the brand name and recognition itself? I couldn't find any good reason to own one yet. As far as accuracy is concerned, there's a lot of watches are just as good or better than a Rolex at a more justifiable price. QUOTE(xuzen @ Sep 13 2012, 03:07 PM) RM 12K -RM 13K is what I would call a yuppie trap. What you get at this range are hyped up ETA movement. Really expensive mass produced factory pieces specifically to trap those yuppies who has lots of free cash to spend. You want something good... I concur.up your ante to RM 20K, now you get into the range of JLC or Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece or Pontos range. This is your entry level to real haute horologie. If not, think a little outside the box.... Try Nomos Glashutte (Deutche) or look the Japanese way... Royal Orient. |

Speedy or Seamaster Pro are worthy considerations. Recently saw a few models of Zenith Open Port Royal on sale for 3.5k USD, very tempted myself to get one.

Get the Speedy Pro Moonwatch and consider yourself baptized...
-Budget ~RM12-13k (or SGD 5k) (CHECK) -Metal Bracelet (CHECK) -New (CHECK) -42mm or less (CHECK) -Mechanical (Original moon watch is manual wind but you can have it in auto as well) -Black Dial (CHECK) -Chronograph not important but wouldn't mind (BONUS) and you get an in-house movement, not to mention a historically significant piece... Bare in mind however that the original moonwatch that you can still buy today is manual wind and uses a hesalite (not sapphire) crystal... there is a version that is auto and with sapphire This post has been edited by yonggoh: Sep 14 2012, 11:43 AM |

I guess some watch companies do spend more big bucks on advertising, good example is when Roger Federer won the wimbledon for a record 7 times, the next day you see Rolex's ad popping up left and right~! haha

I have also previously spoken against the so called marketing tactics of the James Bonds and Olympics of Omega... but the Speedy Pro Moon watch is a different animal.
Even today's ref. 3570.50.00,visually, stay very true to the original version used for early moon exploration. Its the only Omega I would be proud to wear http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Speedmaster Added on September 14, 2012, 3:43 pm QUOTE(xuzen @ Sep 14 2012, 03:05 PM) A remember checking out an El Primero earlier this year at Hour Glass (or was it sincere??) at PavilionThe guy qouted me a sticker price of RM16,000.... I reckon after some discount it can be had for a bit less than that... perhaps not falling into the 13k bracket as our buddy requested, but for a "little bit" more above the budget as well as some searching around, he may make consideration for such a fine time piece This post has been edited by yonggoh: Sep 14 2012, 03:43 PM |

Quick question. Cheapest place to get a NATO/ZULU strap? Saw a superb seller online but was wondering maybe I can get it outside at a cheaper price with installation included. Thanks!

Still a very understated watch IMO. You rarely ever see it popping up on Omega ads. I guess not many people are willing to pay RM10k+ for a manual winding watch with a display that will get scratched (harrr pay so much but not sapphire crystal ahh???) I know the movement is only ETA but damn they look pretty good (again from pictures) and are very reasonably priced. And also, from everyone's experiences, where would be the most ideal place to buy a watch, Malaysia, Singapore, or an international Airport? I only list airport as an option because everyone claims everything in the airport is cheaper Have a nice weekend everyone! |

was expecting a 7k tagheuer but in the end, my father bought me a second hand PAM 90 (first buyer bought on 2010 31st august) L series which cost my father rm17.5k. I'm wondering is that PAM worth for that money? or if you were me, you could have just add on rm1.5k more to get a NEW FRESH PAM 104? thanks!

QUOTE(closer @ Sep 14 2012, 10:43 PM) Thanks for all the replies fellas! Always choose Malaysia for its no-tax consideration, but shopping in SG per se has its own charm. I do see where you are coming from with the above. From my own research, it seems like the budget I have set for myself is a very in between budget, not quite enough to take the next step up. I am considering freeing up some additional cash or I might postpone my purchase a couple of months ) : The Speedy has crossed my mind due to its heritage but I do prefer the Seamaster and PO more if I were to buy an Omega haha. That is just from looking at pictures though and will definitely take a look at the Speedy in real life this weekend. Anyway, no love for Tudor Black Bay/Pelagos? I know the movement is only ETA but damn they look pretty good (again from pictures) and are very reasonably priced. And also, from everyone's experiences, where would be the most ideal place to buy a watch, Malaysia, Singapore, or an international Airport? In Malaysia, you need to wait maybe half a year before seeing the new arrivals here. Xuzen |
