QUOTE(forget-me-not @ Feb 15 2012, 03:09 PM) Dear all watch expert, I'm so keen on getting a 18k two tone Rolex GMT2, been looking around for new and preowned. In general i find purchasing new Rolex watches in Singapore cheaper...especially once u factor in the tax back at the airport...would like to know what would be the discounted price for new one from AD? i was quoted RM 31k from a trusted taiwanese website, worth a go? or a pre-owned of 2003 is 22k from local preowned shop, what do you think? since the latest model will be with ceramic bezel, would like to know the material for old models. Thanks heaps!! Also i find that the dealers there are able to flex prices more generously than Malaysian ones.. i managed to get back 6% on the purchase of my Daytona over the weekend. (after factoring the admin/service/whatever fee) This post has been edited by yonggoh: Feb 15 2012, 10:08 PM |

QUOTE(ck77 @ Feb 16 2012, 10:20 AM) Typically foreigners traveling into singapore are illegible for GST refund for items over sgd100 at most retail outlets. One must bring the item for custom inspection at the airport before they process the refund. Passport & other travel documents will be checked also. The refund rate is about 7% but after fees and admin the buyer will usually get back about 5-6% at most. They can either refund you in SGD or credit back the amount into your credit card (a small fee incurred this way) and yes, it is only applicable for traveller via Air so those taking the long road from johore are not eligible for this... i dont know about travelers via sea |

QUOTE(Shawnzz @ Feb 16 2012, 01:22 PM) unwanted V-Day gift?? teh girl must be very sad...Added on February 16, 2012, 2:54 pm QUOTE(fluffy6640 @ Feb 16 2012, 11:28 AM) so say i were to buy a watch ni SG, on the way back, i'll just declare what's the item i bought, they check my identification, etc...and that's it? hrmm...thinking of getting a watch next week. im pretty excited about this gst refund thing. Its a simple process. At the shop that you purchase the item from... inform the cashier that you are a foreigner and will require a GST refund. They will fill in a little form in which u must fill in your particulars such as name, country, passport, expected date of departure etc (this form looks like a receipt kinda thing) which you must later present together with the 1) actual item receipt 2) item purchased 3) passport and other travel documentations such as boarding pass. You may not have to have your passprt and boarding pass with you at this time...you can fill in all that stuff later Two things to bear in mind. If you are HAND CARRYING the said item then the entire GST refund process will be done AFTER your the check in counter. You simply head to the GST refund counter in which some officers that may/may not inspect your items (usually they just have a look at it for like 2 seconds) and they chop the GST Refund Slip and guide you to a cashier area to claim back your money. They tend to be quite laxed about this... they just saw my new rolex for like 2 seconds. Could've been any other watch in truth and they didnt bother with the rest of my purchases like shoes, clothes, belt, jewellery etc... If you are CHECKING IN the said item then all this has to be done before you check in. same process except that they will chop your GST refund slip for you to claim INSIDE the same counter after you normally check in... Smart singapore government want us to spend our last SGD inside their terminal This post has been edited by yonggoh: Feb 16 2012, 02:54 PM |

for dress watch consider the JLC Memovox or Piaget Altiplano... understated class & elegance in designs that will never be outdated

QUOTE(nando @ Feb 19 2012, 09:41 PM) thanks for detailed explanations bro... not too sure on buying pre owned pieces... but if buying from a shop then i believe it is possible to claim GST under the gross margin scheme.what about preowned pieces....? i supposed as long as shop has the GST form its possible to claim? even if the store owner purchases the time piece from previous owner (ie non GST registered person) and then sells the item to you...it should still be entitled to GST refund i know for certain that PRIVATE transactions are not claimable together with goods sold within a Zero GST warehouse and free trade zone. QUOTE(lk3 @ Feb 21 2012, 07:14 PM) let us discuss here was wondering wat do you guys tink of the JLC Duomètre à Quantième Lunaire? and anyone care to elaborate more on regulateur watch? thanks any JLC is good and commands respect in the horology world...a house with great tradition, finely built pieces and solid in house movements.I was toying with the idea of getting a used JLC Dualmatic (discontinued model) for a few months last year...alas it was sold in December..and for a mere 6k SGD i missed out on owning a beautiful master compressor sports watch which is likely to become a collectors item From then on i knew NEVER to wait till later in this watch collecting hobby, so i took a deep breath, swiped my plastic for a SS daytona and never looked back... i still think of that dualmatic however... |

It is more than a watch . It is superior than any fashionable watch . QUOTE(MeToo @ Feb 23 2012, 12:34 PM) A friend? Hehhe... Patek advertising & promotion dept is your friend now? i was merely highlighting the elusive nature of their timepieces...Anyway.. Patek Cala is classic/timeless, nice understated watch... people who fall into the patek market certainly wont need any more persuasion of a random quote from a web-forum handle hopefully someday i will qualify to step into their store Added on February 23, 2012, 1:24 pm QUOTE(adkins981 @ Feb 23 2012, 01:07 PM) the calatrava and nautilus are just two iconic pieces from the house of patek philippeThis post has been edited by yonggoh: Feb 23 2012, 01:24 PM |

QUOTE(adkins981 @ Mar 5 2012, 03:28 PM) the the dial diameter is actually ok but the casing does pertrude quite a bit... reminds me of the case size of the IWC ingeniur series...this piece retails for about 18k SGD but store can discount 30%, then 5% additional disc if you using VISA to purchase and then there's the 6% VAT refund for us malaysians... in all works out to be about ~11k SGD |
