QUOTE(seantang @ Jan 16 2012, 01:30 PM) No, no disrespect for people with less education than they would have liked... especially those due to factors like money, parents etc. In fact, those who does not have any certificates, they are actually trying to find some excuses to console themselves and convince people surrounding them that what is the big deal without the certificates.I personally just find it really, really flippant when people in forums use celebrities like Uncle Goh, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs etc. to say that education is no biggie and the lack of it is no obstacle in their professional lives. The fact is that it is an obstacle. They should be describing what they did or are doing to overcome/bypass it - instead of basically saying "Bill Gates didn't do it, so I don't need to". When i graduated back in the 90s and started my first job, all the supervisors who did not have certificates, everyday singing in front of me that my degree certificates is just a piece of toilet paper. They showing off that they know so much things in the work as i am a newbie (who knows nothing) and i was still trying to learn my way up and what were they doing. But, today, the same bunch of supervisors that i know, some have been retired and some are still working and their status have not changed much and few of them are worse than where they were 10 years ago. Thus, certificates is very helpful if you have it, but if you dont have it, it is not the end of the world, but the road ahead is more difficult and for those who want to be successful, you must have some luck or talent and be one of the smarter one out there. |

Hi, it depends what time your work starts and your working location. Say, the working starts at 9am, you live in town and working location is downtown in SG, so you need to reach CIQ 6.30a.m to be on the safer side. Usually 2 hours you would be able to cross the castam and reach downtown. Give extra 30 minutes allowance to prevent being late for work. |

it's definitely not a marketing function per se. more like a marketing support role, more on the operations side |

Hiring a non-degree/non-certified personnel poses risk to hiring manager. Its like putting his head on the chopping board and pray that you're capable of what you were saying/lying(lol). Project tenders nowadays, demand qualified personnel to be involved as well.
Most people(including me) choose to play safe under such circumstances. |

QUOTE(deodorant @ Jan 16 2012, 04:30 PM) I can't imagine having to do this every day @_@ ... so much wasted time just standing in the bus, standing in queue at immigration, etc ... it's a trade off. what you lose in time, you gain in more disposable income. i've seen colleagues leaving for work at 7pm, only to reach home at 9pm. after eating/bathing/etc, they're lucky to be left with a few hours before going to sleep, only to wake up again at freakin 5am in the morning to go to work. but yes, i share your feelings. i'd rather pay rent and stay closer to where i work than travel every day like that :s |
