I no major anything. Just take it as I have my SPM cert, working exp 2 years plus in customer service and admin. Any job except sales. Cuz I don't know how to make sales or talk.

Hey guys. I am a soon-to-be graduate. Here's a simple question:

- Is it better that I try to land my first job in Singapore or should I find a job in Malaysia first to gain some experience (let's say 2-3 years) before I look for opportunities in Singapore (so that I have higher negotiating power when it comes to salary)?

Thanks in advance!

So the journey back home for the Lunar New Year will begin very soon. Who's is leaving 1st and where ?

I'm flying back to SG (from Johannesburg) on New Year Eve (Sunday), New Year Day (Monday) itself only fly to KL then drive up to Penang to meet family.

hi all, wanted to apply for some job after cny. not sure where to start but i think jobstreet? cause i never apply for job, i got my current job after intern as i am being absorbed.

Check first page lor, got a few websites there. Your 8 months work experience is almost worthless though, if I was hiring I would simply consider you as fresh grad material unless your experience was exactly what I'm looking for.

QUOTE(totti 10 @ Jan 16 2012, 01:21 AM)
im thinking about applying on March or April
from what i heard this PR thing is very random wan

Gogogo apply! I also want to apply but uh ... need to makan the employer CPF another half year to have a bit $$ in pocket first before applying PR.

Nothing after SPM? Hmmm ... might be difficult nowadays.

IMO, start in SG. Working 2-3 years in MY doesn't give you any nego power for SG job, if anything many/most employers will offer you lower salary than a 2-3 year experience-in-Singapore person just because you come from MY.

I see.

My initial main problem with landing myself a job in Singapore after graduating was that I would be quite broke by then tongue.gif IMO, it would require me to have a certain amount of money to sustain my first month of living there without income, not to mention having to pay for the rental and deposit. Was any of u having this problem before? How did u overcome other than taking a loan from your parents?

Anyway I would reconsider all my options. Thanks.

well, before i came to sg i was working oddjobs overseas, therefore $$$ wasnt a prob... staying with my auntie that did my laundry, cook my food and provided me with a maid, internet, transportation and lots of care really helped me... so even without $$, i think i was kinda ok

You were quite lucky then (to have your auntie who looked after u) tongue.gif I have my cousin there, crashing at her place for one month may not be a problem but I still need to have (not that limited amount of) cash, then I only feel safe. Hence, my reason to take up a job in Malaysia first before I even think of relocating.

I burnt my savings. Yes, all of them.

Anyway I have friends coming over having the same doubt as you, but my advice is secure a job first before you come in and stay. That will greatly reduce your "starting capital" in Singapore. You can always work out the money later..

I was fortunate that my mother supported me during my initial stay in Singapore and also for the fact I got my job on my first interview. Even so, I spent S$2000+ in my first month on food, rental deposit, rental and mobile phone.

Have you considered driving down to jb and stay there while looking for a job? At least you'll still be spending in ringgit while hunting for a job. Once you secured a job, then only move into Singapore.

My wife burnt her car sales for moving over alone.
Then when I came (we rented the whole unit), burnt both our savings. laugh.gif laugh.gif
Try to nego with your employer.
Some understands and are willing to pay you the first month salary in advance so that you can settle down.

I'm heading home on the evening of 18th, taking firstcoach smile.gif

When I first got to SG, I had some savings so it wasnt too bad. But dont ever let money stop you from coming! Suffer abit for a month, then slowly recover.

Nothing in life's easy right?

burnt my few thousands savings, borrowed about $800 from my gf and borrowed about RM3k from my dad. After 4 months paid off both my gf n my dad, maybe a few months to recover back my savings and reach my ROI point. First few months gonna be a bit hard..
