Well I updated the prices for like 1 person 1 room. The hairdressing salon I went to the other day, the hair-washer lady (Malaysian) was 3 ppl sharing one master room. Didn't ask how much she was paying though.

Anyway, one of my friends here (early 30's, M'sian, SPR) got accepted a couple months ago to SIA's Cadet Pilot program, & he's in ground school right now. So even SIA hires foreigners!
*
my brother was offered this program back in 2004, but that stupid fella chose to study computer in UM rather than the SIA offer.
now he see me working in Singapore, he say he wants to work here as well. really vomit blood.

I Have a place in JB, moving there in future. I will queue up at CIQ if I have the TIME since my destination is north part of SG. The detour will cost ~s$20 more for possible saving of 1hour. It was almost 10pm and my kids have school tomorrow morning so I take the chance, lucky not much car on 2nd link.
*
Car traffic will be very bad if you leave late. around 7pm, it is really jam until BKE Woodlands Ave 3 exit. but i ride bike, so won't affect me.
But in the morning, it really fluctuate. You need to pray everyday that those stupid lorries don't block the car lane. if they do so, to cross immigration alone take you at least 1 hour.

but riding bike is better. the time taken is very consistent. if lucky, then u cross within 20 mins. if bad luck, 30 mins. so easier to manage your time.

It will be more than 2 hours daily.  During normal commute, expect about 1.5 hours per way so get ready for three hours quality time spending in the car.
*
I am not sure what time u commute, like i say, most of the time, the causeway is clear from traffic. If you stay in Taman Pelangi, you can elave your house at 8am if u start work 9am.
Unless those lorries clog the causeway, then different story. as for 2nd link, not really sure. the actual time taken to queue on the immigration is less than 15 mins. just the time taken to travel from your home to causeway and causeway to office will eat up some time. now i am taking bike daily, i spend around 20 mins on the queue. Car is faster (confirm because i drove in before). if i work in Woodlands and i stay in Taman Pelangi, i can leave my house 30 mins before work and i confirm won't be late (unless immigration system down).

Wow $4,500, no wonder there are damn lots of BMWs and Mercs around. Great! I'll work hard and try to get into those big companies like yours smile.gif
3 hours? Awww.. What about 2nd link? I know we have to pay extra charges though. But I expect no congestion over there?
*
2nd link is freaking expensive. RM15 + $6.40 + $20 a day. that is around $35 per day on toll alone. not to mention the long 2nd link which is far from city.

Dear all,

I plan to work in SG maybe next year for at least 2 or 3 years. Can i rent a house or room in JB and drive my local car to sg to work and return to JB every day? Do i need to pay extra fee for driving a local car to sg to work?

Thank you.
*
depends on which way u use to enter Singapore. let me just break it down for u.

This is the cost if u drive a car.

Hahah.. BN trooper or not, I think BN govt found a way to suck $$ from those travelling between M'sia and SG daily.  EDL will be tolled at the CIQ checkpoint.  Though we do not use EDL, still kena subsidize it for everyone to use!  So I think for those who decides to travel daily via car, maybe can add an additional cost to your travelling allowance.
*
i fully support the gov on this. This really successfully achieve the mission to get $$ from the rich to subsidize the poor.
If you are rich enough to pay $20 daily for the car VEP, the RM6.20 means nothing to you. the $20 it self its already RM49.
If you say u are poor, u can opt to ride a motorcycle or take a bus.

I also fully support this and I hope Sg side will stand by their words which is, "we will follow the rates of what our counterparts in Msia is charging".
Maybe time to increase VEP also. haha. Such a long time never revise already  tongue.gif

BTW, quite a number of those who stay in JB drive Sg car, so all along there is no S$20.

JB town will be dead sooner than you think once they imposed this.
*
i agree with this as well. just follow Malaysia's rate. it won't affect me also since bike still free smile.gif

the money goes to MRCB.
This is the part where I think paying that toll do not lead to a greater good for the society.  It's for someone to finance their newest Merz or purchasing the highest class condo in Bangsar or even that private jet trip to some exotic locations for their families and friends annual travel.  I do not mind paying the SGD20 for the toll knowing the efficiency of Singapore's road and it's in a way greater good for the society.

lol, i tot it is only open to sgporeans and msians as stated in the job requirements.

if u ask me, Auxiliary Police is a very noble job. don't believe on what that stupid mercury say. even the pay is a bit lower than the Police, but its still consider good pay.
my suggestion is u can opt to stay in JB then request to work at the checkpoints (Tuas or Woodlands), it will ease up a lot of ur expenses.
Auxiliary Police is well respected job and its smth like an assistant to those law enforcer (ICA, Police etc etc). so when we see Auxiliary Police, we respect them like we respect the policemen.

icic, thks for your input, i just worry that the salary are not enough to survive in sg as i know the rental are expensive, food might be okay and maybe have to cut on shopping and entertainment because i checked out that it is sgd 1.3k++ converted to rm become 4k. I didn't expect SGD has appreciated that high. One more questions ,if we work in singapore, will we still eligible for socso and epf. Another question, will we be able to purchase house in msia using our sg salary slip?
*
purchase house in JB got no prob... but in KL a bit difficult, need guarantor. if u plan to stay in SG, then u need to share room.

rental $350
phone $20
food $300 ($10 per day)
transport $100 (u will have extra)
groceries $100 (toilet paper, shampoo etc etc)

total only $870, u still have around $500+ extra.

so its still a lot u can do with $500. btw, that is just ur starting pay, ur salary will climb quite fast if ur pay is low.

Lester,

Why don't you work out a "stay in JB budget" for this chap? I think is tough to stay in Sg with the budget you suggested above.
*
ok, since u requested, u guys can have this as reference...

rental =RM300-RM450 (near causeway u can get a room, further apart u can rent a whole flat with RM300)
food = RM600 (RM4.50 on average per meal, no drink since my budget for SG meal did not include drinks as well. 1 day RM20 can settle.)
phone = RM30 + $30 (since u will need a Malaysia number and a SG number)
VEP = $100 (assume that u ride bike and use Causeway)
Petrol = RM100 per month (including going out leisure with friends etc etc)
groceries = RM200 (more than enough)

Total = RM1400 + $100. so its around $650 SGD per month.

PS : u guys sure wonder, I no nid eat in SG? the answer is u can tapao mix rice from Taman Pelangi in the morning. those shops are very professional that they help u separate the dishes and the rice, a lot of ppl is doing that.

QUOTE(nightzstar @ Dec 13 2011, 07:46 PM)
allright thks mackiddo, i am degree holder actually looking to gain some experience overseas and to be able to purchase a home in sarawak because currently hard to find jobs in sarawak till I come kl. Now wanna try to venture into sg.
*
mind telling what degree are u holding? why request such a low pay? I am not a degree/diploma holder also can request for higher pay d.

QUOTE(keelim @ Dec 13 2011, 07:50 PM)
I have never experience crossing the causeway during the weekdays' peak hours, but yes you need to pay toll.

With your stated salary, I would seriously consider staying in JB. After a few months, you can invest in a motorbike. That will shorten your daily trip significantly.
*
on average, lets say peak hours. if i start work 9am, i must reach the causeway at 8am. so if u stay near by the causeway, leave ur house at 7:50am to be safe, i normally leave my house at 7:30am coz i stay around 18KM away from the causeway.

going back is the same thing, if u leave ur office at 6pm, u will reach home around 7pm. so only 1 hour travel. compare to those staying in SG, u only spend additional 20mins per trip. so i think its worth it. not to mention if u stay in JB, u can have ur own transport don't have to reply on public transport. no matter how efficient is the public transport in SG, it still cannot beat those owning their own transport.

for eg, travel from woodlands to orchard by MRT, it takes 45-50mins. if u ride a bike, 25 mins can reach. u save 25 mins from there.

my office is near Yio Chu Kang, previously i stay in Sembawang (3 MRT stops away), if i start work at 9am, i need to leave my house at 8:15am. it takes me around 45 mins to get to office, but if i am riding a bike, i just need 15 mins (maximum if i so suey all traffic lights are red). so if u let me choose again, i still choose to stay in JB. but of course people will say ride bike danger la, this la that la. its all up to that individual.
