My opinion is very simple. Try taking Malay jamu. It has helped me alot. Although I am Chinese. The jamu was introduce to me by some Malay friends. Once I tried it, the first period that came was slightly better then the second was good. Plus point is that, there is no more discharge and also smells...hope this helps.

Myself have a super serious menstrual pain almost every months until i fainted..hmm almost every months too. I'm taking Ponstan 500mg since 8 years back. It's not recommended to take this pills because it will have side effect which is gastric. Recently my gf recommend me a pill for cramping which you can get it from Pharmacy (Guardian or Watson) and its called Buscopan. It's really help to stop the cramp within 15-30mins. But i do eat this medic togteher with Ponstan because my condition is abit serious.
Or another method if you're unwilling to takes any pills, you need to avoid of drinking cold or ice, beer, sleep late and need to eat more those chinese herbs such as "bak foong yun", "bak zhan" or herbal soup. Hope this will help smile.gif

I've actually tried alot of Jamu, from DIY stuff to off the shelves brands. I've been taking jamu for the past 11 years. I find that, there is so much benefits of consuming jamu. My opinion of the best brand is JRD Jamu Ratu Dara. I pick this brand after I've compared and tried it myself. The conclusion was done base on $value, benefits, heatiness & women's health benefit. HAPPY HOLIDAYS ya to all!

Where to get jamu? o_O what is it actually. bitter?

Every first day of my period I seriously feel like dying wei. I feel cold and I just can't move much. But sitting hurts, sleeping hurts. I can't even sit in peace. It's excruciating that I cried once. I don't know why I feel cold though. I will shiver and I needed blanket. sad.gif I got good diet lor (I think HAHAH) Doesn't help also.

I take ponstan too. Usually I need to take it when I feel like the pain is coming because once the pain comes it takes a very long time to feel better. It's a really good pain killer but you should always take them after meal. Ponstan aka mefenamic is an NSAID.

I try my best not to take any painkiller though. Because when I have period I generally have no appetite to eat. Eating ponstan without meal would cause gastritis... which is what I had after using it for a few months. HAHAHA.

I never liked panadol menstrual. Its a diuretic to relief bloating but I find myself getting dehydrated =S I also feel REALLY numb after eating it. Even to my fingers and toe. =/

Basically all the answers that you seeked has been posted here. Just need to sort out the truth from the myth.

Truth:
-------
Mensus pain will never go away until you delivered your baby either through spontaneous vaginal delivery or c-section. It's not the delivery itself but rather stretching of the uterus during pregnancy which disrupts the nerve endings, making your uterus 'numb' to cramping sensation. No everyone will get mensus pain. Some will have severe pain, some have little pain.

Myth:
------
Mensus pain will not go way with time or age. As long as someone never pregnant before till term (pregnant and abort doesn't count), the pain will come with every mensus cycles.

Truth:
-------
Medications such as Panadol, Ponstan, Voltaren and all sorts of NSAIDs will help. Don't wait till pain become severe then only take the pills. If you know you'll have mensus pain, no point waiting for it to become worst before taking the pills. The medicine will not harm your fertility. Panadol is the safest, can be taken even when you're having gastritis. NSAIDs such as Ponstan/Voltaren are powerful, have tendency to cause gastritis and should be avoided if you're having gastritis or have history of frequent gastritis. Those with asthma, heart and kidney problem must avoid NSAIDs.

Myth:
------
There is no truth to the myth that all the medications above cause bloating/numbness. Bloatedness and numbness are caused by the water retention during mensus. Just prior to mensus, your body will swells up with water. You'll find your clothing/socks are tighter than usual. Your body weight may increase 1-2kg. Your mood become foul, hence your BF/hubby became a shooting target. Once period comes (bleeding), your body will starts to loose the excess water, hence you'll go to toilet more often and the swelling reduces. Mood also improves. It has nothing to do with the medicine. Supplements such as EPO, spirulina may work in some women but for majority of the women, they are simply as waste of money.

I think this is not so true, when i had my first kid, my cramps did not change, it was still showing me no mercy! smile.gif i"m not sure about other people, but as for my case, nope child delivery didn't stop my period cramp. Maybe there are alot of other ways to reduce or stop the cramp. For others it may be regular exercising, home remedies like ginger tea, regular massages around uterus area and etc. My cramp stop ever since I took Jamu (Malay Herbs) btw I am a chinese lady. To kh3ngling, I dont mean to interrupt ur thread or comment, just to share my thoughts. please dont get offended, i meant no harm. Thanx smile.gif

Yup, my discharge stopped, no smell, lubrication is more controlled during coitus, no cramps, period blood does not have foul smell, more accurate timing on periods and my vagina walls tightens up. Jamu is made purely from herbs, beware though, some jamu has added stuff like steroids and stuff. So after consuming you will feel more energetic. Get Jamu that have been approved by our health ministry to be save. Like for me, I'm taking Jamu Ratu Dara (JRD). Thanx

No offense taken. My statements are generals statements which apply to most of the population but not all. In medical field, nothing is absolute 100%. I'm talking about mensus pain which are due to mensus itself. Of course, those who experience mensus pain with irregular bleeding (too much or too little), not relieved after pregnancy should try to have a proper medical checkup. There are many other conditions which cause mensus pain, one of them is uterine fibroid. Sometimes, there is nothing wrong with the uterus itself, just that the nerve has fully grown back after pregnancy which it will but for many, the number of nerve that grew back were less than before pregnancy, hence reduced/absent of mensus pain after that.

Jamu or supplements may work for some people which I've already mentioned. Some of these supplements contain phytoestrogen (estrogen derived from plants) which may help but must be present in sufficient quantities for it to work. Do take precautions with unregistered jamu/chinese herbs because sometimes they contain harmful steroids. Steroids makes you feel good/well but if taken long term will have irreversible harmful effects. However, I admit I have no idea about this Jamu Ratu Dara (JRD) though.

Fuh, what a relieved hearing your reply. I was really worried that my comment might spark a misunderstanding. Yup yup agreed about the steroids facts. But seriously my period pain is so bad previously that I don't wish anybody will have the same experience as mine. Oh by the way, nice to meet you. I'm a newbie here. Hehehe rclxms.gif

LOL! Not easily offended especially when it's a serious and genuine discussion laugh.gif

However, I'm not too keen on supplements because they are way too expensive and some of them have questionable benefits. I'm just glad they work for you. There's no harm trying though. For those who doesn't feel the effects after 1-2 months of taking them, by all mean stop wasting your money.

I see. So it's a kind of herb. How do you take it? Is it in powder form, mix with water? Or boil or something?
Where can I get this JRD that you are taking and how often do you take it?

As for me, after realizing that i have severe cramps during my menstruation, i decided to refrain from cold/iced drinks. Of course, it takes determination to do so in a long run. You don't see the effect in the short run but the cramps are lessen after months.

Also, you should try consuming more fish that contains Omega-3 Fatty Acids or just take fish oil as supplement. During my days when i consume these, it seems that my cramps have lessened compared to days before i consumed them.

I have tried Bak Fong pills too and I am not sure how it works for my body but my menstrual period has been regulated because of Bak Fong pills. I guess it works to regulate your menstrual period if you have irregular menstrual period.

As for Panadol pink pill, i took it only when my cramps are pretty severe. For the moment, Panadol pink pill works for me the best.

Oh and i realized that when the girls start to have menstrual cycle, they don't feel like eating and the cramps will only make it worsen. At least consume something , any hot drinks will do to soothe your pain. It will only worsen the pain if you don't eat something.

That's all i feel like sharing, according to my experiences.

thanks for ur sharing.

me too, try to refrain myself from cold/ice drink. the killer was the grass jelly, cincau. i think last drank was like 4 years ago. tongue.gif im not exaggerating but i had severe cramp after drinking it a day before my menstrual period...i was rolling + moaning at my brother's back passenger seats.

good finding. notworthy.gif i jot down what i eat (something decent over weekend) to do some research on this issue. there was once whereby i have taken 3 times salmon in a month => no menstrual period pain at all. ^^ however, the next month, where i just ate 1 time salmon in a month => menstrual period pain...so i thought it could be due to my indiscipline (i drink cold drink like few times per month).

thanks again.

happy new year everyone~ thumbup.gif

No problem, bbblue90!

i have read some articles that some supplements such as Vitamins B1 or E will help to relief cramps during menstrual cycle. Thou, I have not personally consuming either of them so it's hard for me to tell the effectiveness.

And Happy New Year to you too!
