Performed voluntary ownership transfer from a foreigner, however these type of transactions which require password cannot be performed at UTC (yes, build a entire building but simple feature is not available, and there is a immigration dept there too...go figure, gov style).
Anyway, thanks to covid, long ass queue @ JPJ Permaisuri (> 40min queue outside into the back alley of a building while smelling all the rubbish & drain). Tbh, i think better engage those agents/runner which has the device to thumbprint rather than stand in line. |

QUOTE(Chrix @ Dec 9 2021, 08:44 AM) Has anyone performed transfer of ownership at JPJ recently? I just did recently, insurance can be done after name/geran transfer at JPJodd I was informed by 2 different people that new owner does not need insurance to be active on the car they are purchasing to perform the name change at JPJ. exhibitA: used car dealer inform can still change name even no insurance coverage on the thumbprint day exhibitB: current owner of a vehicle I am planning to purchase said when he purchased car in early 2020, he only did the insurance AFTER the JPJ process However I remember that was one of the prerequisites...so odd |

QUOTE(garyg @ Dec 20 2021, 06:04 PM) Interesting.... are there any caveats? eg: must purchase ins within x period of time, did you get roadtax without insurance? this is puzzling, meaning we can now take ownership of car which no valid insurance & (assume) roadtax like if buying those cars no ready for OTR or whatever reason |

Not sure, i just went to jpj with puspakom paper, original geran and that's it. JPJ officer reminded me to get new insurance under my namethis is puzzling, meaning we can now take ownership of car which no valid insurance & (assume) roadtax like if buying those cars no ready for OTR or whatever reason |

Currently my father is the owner of my car and I am planning to change it to my name to start building on my NCD.
The car is last insured on 2021 May with 55% discount. How does the insurance work if I were change the ownership name now? Can I get my agent to change the insurance to my name? (I don't think this will work since I got 0% NCD) Do I have to get a new insurance under my name before transferring and pay full amount? If that's the case, will we be able to get refund on the paid insurance? I don't want to cancel my road tax, will continue to use until next cycle. NCD follow person, not car. and can only have 1 instance of NCD.The car is last insured on 2021 May with 55% discount. How does the insurance work if I were change the ownership name now? Insurance must follow legal owner, so there is no "change insurance to my name", it is change of ownership of vehicle. Cancelled insurance can get refund prorated from your insurer, contact them to get more info. Same with roadtax, from JPJ but must bring statement copy. QUOTE(bbbccc @ Jan 9 2022, 04:59 PM) Not that I know of, as thumbprint is required, but if anyone else knows, that would be useful to know |

I have a car (under my dad’s name) with the insurance/road tax expiring soon, and my new car is only getting delivered around Feb/March.
If I want to transfer the old number plate to my new car, do I need to: a) Transfer old car name to mine first, then transfer plate to new car; or b) Transfer old car plate to my new car (under my name) straight? |

Puspakom validity if 30days from date of inspection passed.Buyer get insurance is based on car number plate? What about NCD? Can this be done through all those online insurance provider (fatberry et. al.?) Insurance details are according to the buyer, NCD or not, noting to do with the seller. I always ask the seller to provide the reg card details but redact their personal info. I've personally attempted to purchase insurance through these online services, both were unsuccessful saying ID not match or some shit, maybe for renewal only, I dont know. But now buyer can legally get the car without insurance at JPJ apparently, get insurance after the fact. This post has been edited by Chrix: Jan 29 2022, 09:49 AM |

Hi all. I copy n edit below fr old post. This step still correct in yr 2022??
this is for cash buyer only ... Step1. Book online, Bring car to puspakom (B5) inspection Only bring original geran and print out the QR online booking form. Wait your result come out.(pass or fail) Result will only valid for 30 days . Step 2 , seller and buyer different town or state Ask buyer go any nearest jpj and do the electronic thumbprint transfer. Only bring people and ic and photostep geran will do . He might need to fill in JPJK3 form with seller and buyer particular. The thumbprint will only validate for 7 days....so must kautim transfer in those period . Everything here is FREE.(seller bare no fees) Buyer at different town go UTC or jpj Go to counter ,take your number and take JPJK3 form and fill it up buyer and seller particular Wait for your number to arrived.both go counter and do bio thumprint. Than on the spot will reprint new geran with buyer name .fees Rm100 Document required by the buyer. JPJK3 form Original geran Inspection Report Old car road tax(must hand in ?? New insurance can buy on other day after name transfer completed Correct? This post has been edited by fishmango: Jan 30 2022, 01:35 AM |

My wife is transferring the name of her car to his father. Does she still need to get it checked at puspakom? Or can she just go to jpj with her geran and get it changed there without going to puspakom?
