Hi,

My dad wants to transfer ownership of one of his cars to me (the kid) for NCD purposes (not sure why, can anyone explain?). Car already paid for in full, so no loans to worry about. I've already gotten the PUSPAKOM inspection and most of the JPJ forms I think I need. Just need to bring parent along.

The only area I'm blur about is the car insurance policy and road tax - would I have to get a new insurance policy and how do I get existing road tax cancelled and have a new one in place, etc? Do I have to do all this before going to JPJ, or can I get all that done there?

Thanks for reading.
*
You have to buy insurance as the owner & insured must be the same person. Insured period can exceed roadtax, not vise versa, so depending on the current road tax. Cancellation of roadtax can be done at JPJ during change of name, balance will be refunded but need to fill in form & must photocopy bank book with account details.

Yes, all this BEFORE you go JPJ, they are the last step.

Need advised , my car just done puspakom inspection and change name from company name to my individual name on 30 April . Now the car I want to sell to new buyer ( loan ) so my question is my car need to do another puspakom inspection not ? Can I straight do change name ?
*
Inspection is valid for 1 month, however since you mentioned the previous inspection done for the first name change and you no longer have the PUSPAKOM cert of inspection, which you will need to produce during change of ownership at JPJ, I would guess you'd have to do inspection again... Call up PUSPAKOM & JPJ to clarify.

hi guys, just want to ask

1. my dad want to transfer ownership of a kenari (which im using) to my name, free from loan. but the thing is, we just had it repaired, and changed the engine. the question is, is it compulsory to register the new engine in the grant or just go check with puspakom, and direct change ownership and the engine number at JPJ?

thanks in advance
*
Before change of ownership, new engine number must be registered in both their system and on your grant.

Hey guys I need immediate advice, i posted my car advertisement at mudah.com and within half an hour i got more than 10 buyer calling and sms and whatsap etc. Until now my phone answer till no battery already. I can say i got more than 10 used car dealer (Not included Private buyer)
*
In all of years of selling my 4 cars, I've never had car dealers calling me insistently. Maybe its because all my cars are at least 15years old laugh.gif .

But seriously, what car are you selling?, it it below market price? I couldn't image used car dealers wanting more inventory from the many conversations I've had with them..but what do I know.

Just a normal ordinary Saga BLM, yup I believe it was way below the market price. Cause that was my mum car and she decide to sell it according to her liking AKA fend Sui price. Hence I have been receiving a lot dealer call even from Johor . So I wanna ask which way is the safest to sell car that won't have any legal trouble or mess in future ?
*
Ah, below market price sure alot of fish will bite.

I'm not clear on the change name procedure now, but I cant imagine they can change ownership (even temporary) without any official letter stating the vehicle is road worthy, sounds silly...but then again, we are living in a silly country...so anything is "boleh".

But on a serious note; https://www.myeg.com.my/faq/stms.html#q07

Looks like for Temporary Ownership Transfer System, no puspakom needed... shocking.gif looks like its time for us to return the favour to used car dealers & sell them lemons laugh.gif laugh.gif

Still have 18k debt with bank and I sell my car for 19k
*
Cash would be the easier, just curious..what car are you selling that you are able to catch 6 people?

I am in the same situation right now. Want to buy a car situated in Johor but am in KL. Checked with runner and they are charging similar to yours. What is this GST fee? Gst on what? Loan amount or car sales price? Anyone know? My case alone runner wants 4k plus.
*
The breakdown of fees are just arbitrary amount as "runners" are not the legal way, so dont bother trying to find justification on the breakdown & fees as they can charge whatever they want.

so whats the norm around here ?
does the buyer or seller has to pay for the insurance around here if its cancelled by the owner ?
*
It is procedure, not norm.

Of course the new owner of the vehicle has to pay for insurance unless you have a very gracious seller willing to cover YOUR vehicle's insurance payment. Note, during name transfer JPJ system will check if insurance is valid.

Sifu Sifu sekalian. Need some of your quick input.

I'm currently transferring my inlaws car to my name.
The car is fully paid up. I've already done the Puspakom inspection (b5) and already filled in the jpjk3 form as well. Since its just a transfer of ownership. Do I need any other requirement? And lastly. The current insurance and road tax has expired on the car. But I plan to renew it a day or two after the ownership transfer. Possible?
*
Pening part you already settle (Puspakom)

Just current owner & future owner need to do biometric thumb scan at JPJ (walk in). But first car MUST be insured by NEW owner.

Roadtax can buy on the spot at JPJ. IIRC, dont buy roadtax is ok, but remember roadtax validity cannot exceed insurance coverage.

You as new owner have to insure it first, before Jpj will allow name transfer.

Usually u can buy the coverage earlier & request ur insurer to apply the effective date on the day u plan to name transfer.

Hello, i'm new to this stuff & got a few question.

I've read all the steps but i'm not sure if i understand it right. All these steps are only applicable if you're dealing with direct seller, correct? Can we actually use these steps with used car dealer to avoid the ridiculous admin charge?
*
No you cant.

Hi I have some questions :

1) buyer agrees to buy in cash
2) car still with outstanding with bank

a)Do I proceed to settle with bank first or puspakom first?

b) assuming buyer agrees to buy , I collect a non refundable deposit, then I settle bank loan and then to jpj to change name ... then only collect full payment from buyer?

C) if buyer pays with cheque, I'll need to wait for the cheque to clear first before handling over the keys?  Wouldn't the buyer be worried if cheque cleared  and car is notwhere to be seen?

What's the best practices ya
*
a) you can get the puspakom inspection done first, no issue, its only the validity period that may expire IF the buyer flakes.

b & c) [once u have the ebatal] if cash, just count it when both are at JPJ (discrete la ofcourse), if cheque, it should be bankers cheque, as way less to zero chances of bouncing, as the buyer has paid the full amount to the bank in order to get the cheque.

As precaution, while waiting for cheque amount to clear, the owner may take the registration card with his name on it, while you (the ex-owner) keep the car & only send it to him once you see the cash in your account. Just make sure there is black & while on this agreement to prevent any miscommunication/hassle.

i want to ask if seller not free to go JPJ for name transfer and Puspakom for inspection, can the buyer do it himself?
*
Not legally, as the current owner's thumbprint is required. Used car dealers may be able to assist (as they have then facility), but be prepared to pay (should be seller cost, due to seller issue, not u, logically).

Does the person need to make insurance immediately or can use current insurance? Can I transfer the insurance to the person? The person has never had a car and this will be the person first car
*
Insurance must be purchased & active (with roadtax not exceeding the insurance coverage period) before JPJ will transfer the ownership.

Insurance cannot be transferred.

Ok. Thanks. Why the new owner cannot just use the insurance until up then renew under the person's name?
*
Different names. Unless you didnt change ownership & just add this new driver to the named driver for insurance.

Is it possible for me to purchase a new car and transfer ncd from old car while old car is still with me? Insurance of old car is lower as it is a few years old. I would like to get the discount from the old to the new car.
*
NCD can be transferred, however the policy releasing the NCD has to be cancelled first.

*
If you intended to continue using the vehicle on public roads, then it should be insured according to the law. But if otherwise, you can cancel the insurance & not renew if its not being used.

If old car, can just buy third party if still using OTR, cheap enough.

If old car third party but full discount, can transfer discount rate to new car first party? Then buy 3rd party insurance later on

IIRC, should be no problem.. been couple years since I bought 3rd party.
