QUOTE(unequalteck @ Nov 16 2011, 12:00 PM) With Semi-Tethered installed, you can reboot the phone into working state (with limitations) without being stuck at Apple logo. You don't need to connect through AC adapter to reboot. QUOTE Here is a summary of what you can and cannot do when in semi-tethered reboot state. Remember, this is only when your device crashed and rebooted on the road and before you got back to your computer to “just boot”. It is better than being stuck in apple logo: 1) Can use phone, sms (text messages) 2) Can use every other stock app on iphone. 3) Cannot use mobile safari 4) Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser 5) Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead. 6) You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered. 7) While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”. Those are all the limitations I have found so far. There may be some others. I may provide a more technical write up on why these limitations exist, but for now it doesn’t really matter. They just do. Source: http://thebigboss.org/semitethered-jailbreak |

For those wanting to save their 5.0.1 SHSH, the latest version of TinyUmbrella now allows you to do it.
http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/ Don't know if this will do us any good cause once Apple comes up with a new firmware, your SHSH is pretty much useless. |

Been using iPhone 4 in iOS 4+ for over a year and never had such issue. There's also been quite a number of discussion thread in apple discussion forum. |

Hi guys,
I recently got my new replacement iphone from Digi and it came with IOS 4.3.5. Before this my faulty phone was using IOS 5.0.0 with tethered JB. We all know that current jailbreak developers are warning us against upgrading to iOS 5.0.1 if we want to have tethered JB in the future on 5.0.0 At this moment, there's no way for me to upgrade to iOS 5.0.0, but only can upgrade to iOS 5.0.1. My questions is, will there be any chance for me to upgrade to iOS 5.0.0 when the untethered JB comes out, especially now that SHSH blobs wont work on iOS 5 anymore. Because now, i don't see a way for me to get iOS 5.0.0 on my phone anymore. And if that's the case, i rather upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 and lose the chance of an untethered JB, instead of using iOS 4.3.5 tethered JB without being able to install "semi-tethered". (Semi-tethered only works on iOS 5) |

Apple released iOS 5.0.1 this week and there’s already a way to jailbreak it. But there are a few things to keep in mind before you jailbreak your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad.
1. This is a tethered jailbreak, which means you’ll need to connect your device to a computer and run the software again anytime you need to reboot. 2. You might not want to update to iOS 5.0.1 at all if you’re holding out hope for anuntethered jailbreak. An exploit was discovered in iOS 5.0 which may be used in a future untethered jailbreak tool, but if you update now there’s no good way to roll back to iOS 5.0 so you may not be able to use the new tools once their available. 3 There’s currently no way to jailbreak an iPhone 4S or iPad 2. Fourth, the process is a bit more complex if you have a carrier unlocked device. You may want to wait to make sure that ultrasn0w is updated to support iOS 5.0.1 and you’ll need to preserve your older baseband before upgrading to iOS 5.0.1. Read more... |
